Résumé
Reviewers say 'Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur' is celebrated for vibrant animation, strong representation, and engaging storytelling. The show is praised for its diverse characters, meaningful themes, and dynamic duo Lunella and Devil Dinosaur. The creative animation style and standout voice acting by Diamond White and Alfre Woodard are frequently highlighted. However, some critics point out issues with character development, repetitive plots, and forgettable songs. Despite these, the show is generally well-received for its fun, family-friendly content and positive messages.
Avis à la une
A thoughtful and vibrant depiction of the smartest super-genius in the Marvel universe and her world in the LES. From the title track, to the overall colors/aesthetics, to capturing the essence of her relationships with family and friends, and dealing with the relatable problems that most kids do face - Moon Girl is the kind of show I would've loved to see growing up. It's literally the first show where I've seen the creators ensure their characters pronounce every diverse name correctly- which may not seem like a big deal, but it is.
The soundtrack completely takes this show to another level. I recently downloaded the album from Spotify, and I can't wait to see how they use these tracks and incorporate them in the show.
It's a balanced mix of culture, vibrancy, music, and lightheartedness. Can't wait for the rest of the episodes!

Some music scenes reminded me of the Jackson Five cartoons. Yes, I'm an old(er) viewer. But I still love animation/cartoons. I have managed to watch about 6 episodes so far. The animation is top notch. I love the relationship of Lunella/Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur. The Casey character is one of my favorites to come along in a long time. The parents and grandparents are really cool and up-to-date. I hadn't heard of the comic and found the show while flipping through channels one afternoon. The music is great and very up-to-date sounding. I'm hoping the show is able to attract a loyal following. It's a really cute show.
Moon Girl is stylish, inspirational, and a delight to watch. The titular character has a supportive family (which she is also very supportive of!), a keen intellect, and a tendency to get into and sometimes cause trouble. Devil the dinosaur, her partner in fighting crime, is adorable and has a puppy-like vibe, giving his name irony.
I've seen most of the first six episodes, and it's presented as a "lesson of the day" format, but without a great deal of preachiness (again, irony with the title here). The lessons flow well into the plot and are even incorporated into the battles. Battles against villains (or would-be villains come friends) includes stylish music, including some show-stoppers by popular artists that tie in well to the theme of the episode. The art pops like crazy in these scenes, and people are gonna compare it to Into the Spider-Verse. Yeah, it's lit like that.
That said, while I love the style, format, and lessons of the show, I think it struggles to stay grounded (pun intended). It has already somewhat run into the trap of "protagonist learns lessons and forgets them when the plot calls for it", and I expect the trend will continue. Having great standalone episodes is great, but we've already seen Disney shows that can have both great standalone episodes and overall consistency with Phineas and Ferb and Milo Murphy's Law. These shows grew funnier over time, with an immense amount of layered humor, several interweaving plots, and beloved characters.
Like the titular character, Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur has a ton of potential and has lots of style, but could really use a more cohesive direction.

As an adult the level of representation speaks to my inner child! I love the music especially the theme song! The diversity of LES and the issues that surface that moon girl and D face. I love the voice actors!! They do such an amazing job. I can't wait to have a kid so they can watch this show one day. I love the character development and how each voice actor represents the culture of the character. I love the community and how they come together in the show. I mean it's so beautifully written with such intention it's very clear. It's such a modern cartoon with a classic touch. A Black Family that owns a skating rink that loves their neighbors and their neighbors love them!! It doesn't get any better than that.
A very well made show overflowing with style even though it may be lacking slightly in character development and substance it more than makes up for that with eye popping animation reminiscent of into the spider verse, and overall well written characters. Not everything needs to be insanely complex to be enjoyable this show knows exactly what is a fun action packed romp with interesting characters and a heartfelt story, with messages about family friendship and teamwork while not being overly preachy like a lot of kids shows fall habbit to. I recommend it wholeheartedly and have no doubt the second season will build of the great stuff set up this season, I for one can't wait.
