One of those almost cheesy romantic ballads destined to leave some impact due to its powerful lyrics, great melody and well performed by the singer, and obvious to get an inclusion into an epic movie - in the case of "There You'll Be" the movie was Michael Bay's "Pearl Harbor". It almost got to the level of "My Heart Will
Go On" but it didn't chart all that much, didn't get much airplay and it stopped at the Oscar nomination, one of the many times Diane Warren didn't get it, and it's a second time a partnership between her and the director was recognised during awards season, with the previous time being the unforgettable theme of "Armageddon".
Now, Bay and Hill makes of this clip a great companionship to the film by capturing the film's themes of love and war, mixing scenes starring Ben Affleck, Kate
Beckinsale and Josh Hartnett with Faith Hill interacting in World War II and America 1940's style scenarios while giving her heart away while lipsynching the song. It gives the viewer the impression that she's in the movie at times, such carefully constructed were the sets and her hairstyle and looks, brilliantly filmed by Allen Daviau ("Empire of the Sun", "E.T." cinematographer). Basically it's a clip performance mixed with a film trailer. It works just fine. 8/10
