President of Paramount Skydance Corporation Jess Shell responds to the cancellation of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. Acting as host for the last decade, Colbert took over The Late Show in 2015 from the legendary David Letterman. Particularly in his opening monologue, Colbert would often tackle political topics. Despite being the highest-rated late-night program, The Late Show was cancelled in July 2025.
Per Deadline, Shell reveals that the problem with late-night television is that the viewership primarily comes from YouTube. Shell claims that late-night doesn't economically work any longer in the digital era as YouTube pays "45 cents on the dollar." Check out his comments below:
“Late-night has a huge problem right now. The problem is that 80% of the viewership and growing is on YouTube. [With YouTube paying] 45 cents on the dollar,” “you can’t make it work economically anymore,”

Universal Pictures has debuted a new trailer for ‘Him,’ from Oscar® winner Jordan Peele and Monkeypaw Productions, producers of the landmark horror films Get Out, Us, Candyman and Nope, comes a chilling journey into the inner sanctum of fame, idolatry and the pursuit of excellence at any cost, featuring an electrifying dramatic performance from Marlon Wayans.
Former college wide receiver Tyriq Withers plays Cameron Cade, a rising-star quarterback who has devoted his life and identity to football. On the eve of professional football’s annual scouting Combine, Cam is attacked by an unhinged fan and suffers a potentially career-ending brain trauma.
Just when all seems lost, Cam receives a lifeline when his hero, Isaiah White (Marlon Wayans), a legendary eight-time Championship quarterback and cultural megastar, offers to train Cam at Isaiah’s isolated compound that he shares with his celebrity influencer wife, Elsie White. But as Cam’s training accelerates,...

What would you sacrifice to become the greatest of all time?
Universal Pictures has released a new trailer and two posters for upcoming Jordan Peele-produced sports horror movie, Him, which is set to hit theaters next month.
Described as "a chilling journey into the inner sanctum of fame, idolatry and the pursuit of excellence at any cost," the movie stars Marlon Wayans as legendary football star Isaiah White, who takes promising up-and-comer Cameron Cade (Tyriq Withers) under his wing.
Cam is initially delighted to train under the man he looks up to as a hero, but it soon becomes clear that White's extremely unorthodox methods cross more than a few lines - and may end up costing Cam his soul (literally).
Has White made some kind of deal with a demonic force, or is there a more rational explanation? Check out the new trailer below and let us know...

Back in 2022, Get Out, Us, and Nope writer/director Jordan Peele‘s production company Monkeypaw Productions acquired the genre film pitch Goat from writers Zack Akers and Skip Bronkie, the plan being that Peele would be producing Goat as part of Monkeypaw’s overall deal with Universal Pictures. The sports-related horror project made its way through production under the title Him last year, aiming for a September 19 theatrical release. A teaser trailer was unveiled a few months ago, and now a full trailer has dropped online. Check it out in the embed above!
Justin Tipping – who made his feature directorial debut with the 2016 drama Kicks – directed the film and did some work on the script, with lead roles going to Marlon Wayans (Scary Movie), Tyriq Withers (The Game), and Julia Fox (Uncut Gems).
Him has the following synopsis: Cameron Cade, a rising-star quarterback, has devoted his life, and identity, to football.

Greatness demands sacrifice in the upcoming Him from producer Jordan Peele’s Monkeypaw Productions, and the new trailer this week previews just how bloody those sacrifices will get.
From director Justin Tipping (Kicks), Him will release in theaters September 19. Watch the trailer below to see an inspirational sports movie devolve into an absolute nightmare.
As Tipping explained to Empire Online, “My instinct was to set it up in a way that it feels like we’re in Friday Night Lights, or a Gatorade or Nike ad. We’re rooting for the kid who just needs to unlock one thing to take it to the next level. And then we subvert the expectations and let it… evolve or devolve — depending on your sensibilities — into something it’s not.”

The new horror movie from Jordan Peele’s Monkeypaw Productions, Him will release in theaters on September 19, and Empire Online has shared a brand new image this week.
The director of Him is not Jordan Peele but rather Justin Tipping (Kicks), and Tipping explains to Empire Online that while the film may initially seem like a typical sports movie, it ultimately devolves until a full-throated nightmare of an experience.
Tipping tells the outlet, “My instinct was to set it up in a way that it feels like we’re in Friday Night Lights, or a Gatorade or Nike ad. After decades of surprising and entertaining audiences, Stephen Colbert may have delivered the biggest bombshell of his career — and it was a real gut punch.
On Thursday, he announced that CBS will be dropping the longtime host and canceling “The Late Show” next May.
“Everyone is still shell shocked,” an insider who works in late night told TheWrap.
What this means for the future of this television genre is grim. Colbert is the latest casualty of programming that’s fallen prey to shrinking linear ratings, slashed budgets and decreasing series orders. But as bleak as this news is for the industry at large, it could prove a windfall for Colbert. History has taught us that for big stars, a bad breakup with one network often leads to a lucrative marriage with a competitor. There’s also podcasting, a medium that comedians like Marc Maron, Joe Rogan and Conan O’Brien have successfully flooded.

Get ready for a new Jordan Peele horror experience that will be sure to leave you sidelined with chills! The upcoming sports horror film, Him, will tackle theaters on September 19, 2025, and the initial footage suggests a nightmare far more sinister than a late-season away game.
Him throws audiences headfirst into the pressure cooker world of professional football, where a promising young quarterback finds himself with a golden ticket: an invitation to train at the isolated, state-of-the-art facility of a legendary, albeit past-his-prime, signal-caller.
The setup hints at a collision of worlds, a blend of the intense sports drama of Friday Night Lights with the claustrophobic dread of Misery, mixed with a touch of the unsettling psychological horror of The Babadook.
The official description paints a grim picture, calling Him a "blood-chilling journey into the inner sanctum of fame, power, and the pursuit of excellence at any cost." This first look...

Universal Pictures’ Him promo material prominently features the fact that Oscar winner Jordan Peele is a producer. That alone is enough to draw in horror fans, and the teaser itself doesn’t disappoint. It asks the question, “What would you sacrifice to become the greatest of all time?” The answer to that question is ultimately, “Everything.”

The fourth movie directed by Get Out Oscar winner Jordan Peele will hit theaters on October 23, 2026 via Universal, the studio said Monday.
The movie was originally set for a December 2024 release but was pushed due to the strike.

Jim Jefferies: High n’ Dry is a comedy special starring the always great Jim Jeffreries.
If you enjoy stand-up comedy, you will love this guy who has been doing this for years and who comes from Australia, after coming from the U.K. and finally, with an American nationality, offers us a variety of international themes, that for us, are very attractive.
He starts his special show with something that lots of us were talking about and which for all of us silently felt: we were fed up with the facemask. He goes on with koalas and a thousand other subjects with this humor of anecdotes which is always entertaining and which is especially enjoyable and frequent in streaming lately.
You probably know Jim Jefferies because of the FX Legit series or his own show he headed from 2017 to 2019.

Jim Jefferies is back on Netflix next month with his fifth stand-up special for the streamer, “High N’ Dry.” The special premieres globally on Netflix on February 14, just in time for Valentine’s Day. The stand-up follows previous specials “Jim Jefferies: Bare” (2014), “Jim Jefferies: Freedumb” (2016), “Jim Jefferies: This Is Me Now” (2018) and “Jim Jefferies: Intolerant” (2020). Scott Zabielski directed the new special.
“High N’ Dry” is actually Jefferies’ tenth TV standup special all together, which goes back to “Contraband” in 2008. According to the logline, “In the special, newly married and loving life with his wife and kids, Jefferies sounds off on the laziness of koala bears, the injustices of male pattern baldness and the reason why he’ll never drink again.”
Jefferies, Tim Sarkes, Alex Murray, Brian Volk-Weiss and Cisco Henson are executive producers of “High N’ Dry.”
Jefferies is currently on the road for his 2023 “Give’em What They Want Tour.

NBC has given pilot green light to two comedies, multi-camera Jefferies, starring Jim Jefferies, from the stand-up comedian, writer-producer Suzanne Martin and Sean Hayes and Todd Milliner’s Hazy Mills; and single-camera American Auto, from Superstore creator Justin Spitzer and Aaron Kaplan’s Kapital Entertainment. Both projects hail from Universal Television where Hazy Mills and Spitzer are under overall deals.
Jefferies and American Auto both had a put pilot commitment at NBC — six years apart. Jefferies was pitched this past fall, while Spitzer and Kaplan originally teamed up and sold American Auto to NBC in 2013. The script did not go to pilot back then, and Spitzer went on to create another single-camera blue-color workplace comedy series for the network, hit Superstore, now in its fifth season. The host then left it to a montage of clips — sprinkled with celebrity appearances including Brad Pitt and Carol Burnett — to recap three seasons of The Jim Jefferies Show....

With the proliferation of both talk shows and sketch programs, the TV academy decided to split the Emmy Awards variety series category into two separate categories in 2015 to better recognize achievements in both these genres. While there were 28 entries for Best Variety Talk Series in 2015 that dipped down to 17 in 2016 and 20 in 2017. Although there were 21 such shows last year, this year there are again just 20 on the Emmy Awards nominations ballot. With six series reaping bids, the odds for each entry are pretty good.
All 22,000 plus voting members of the TV academy have until June 24 to cast their ballots for their favorite variety talk shows. In the past, voters were limited in the number of such shows that they could put forth; in 2017 that cap (which was usually 10 per category) was lifted. Unlike the Oscars voters for the Emmys do not rank their choices and nominees are determined by a simple tally.

On “The Jim Jefferies Show” this Tuesday night, the outspoken Australian comedian gets sworn in as an American citizen, a coveted status that he was afraid would be denied him by the President.
“I never mentioned in the show until this moment that I wasn’t a citizen,” Jefferies said in an interview with IndieWire backstage. “I didn’t want a red flag added onto my name. And Trump, I believe, is a petty enough man that he might do something like that. Nixon did this. Nixon started auditing late-night show hosts because they were making jokes about him. Then every single one of their staff got tax audits. So, it’s not beyond the realms of belief that Trump could be as petty as [Nixon was] because there’s just a phone call to be made and a list of people he doesn’t want.
“Like, I heard that John Oliver is not a citizen yet.

He wrote about the curious timing of his decision for The Hollywood Reporter.
Tonight, thanks to the magic of television and the poor judgment of the United States government, I will officially become an American citizen.
I knew it was time to finally get my citizenship the day I ...

On Tuesday’s edition of “The Jim Jefferies Show,” an exasperated Jim Jefferies said that the experience of living in the Trump era is like having the crazed logic of “#Pizzagate” being imposed on real life.
“In a way, we’re all trapped in a sexual slavery pizza/baseball dugout, in our minds,” Jefferies joked.
The comment came after Jefferies examined what he called “a new kind of emotion,” inspired by Donald Trump: “But… Wait… He can’t… F— you… Oh well, what can you do?”

To illustrate, Jefferies looked at recent news items, like the California wildfires that Trump blamed on environmental protection laws. He also brought up the report that the Epa is considering relaxing restrictions on asbestos. Jefferies then played a 2005 clip where Trump claimed asbestos could have prevented the 9/11 attacks from succeeding.
