Kevin (Probably) Saves the World

Here is a show that IMHO deserved a better fate. The first couple of episodes the show was finding its footing with an unusual premise.

Kevin (Jason Ritter) started out an unlikable character but that would change. I'm not giving anything away as it's already in the synopsis and trailer. Let's face it, Jason Ritter seems to function at his best as a charismatic, likeable character....very much like his dad.

Speaking of his dad it's good to see Jason has some very good physical comedy chops. Not in the same league as his dad who was IMHO the best of his generation...but very good just the same.

I enjoyed Jason Ritter in "Another Period". JoAnna Garcia Swishser hasn't played a role that I haven't enjoyed.

No spoilers. Just 16 episodes that were quite enjoyable. JMHO.

Here's another show that was axed that I personally enjoyed. I guess it simply didn't reach a large enough audience to renew it for a second season.

The episodes were smart, funny, entertaining, etc.. Well written and well executed by the company of actors and directors. Certainly a neat pseudo sci-fi show to be sure.

There wasn't a single episode I would call weak. It's been a while since ABC have had a show with consistent high quality IMHO. I personally can't think of one today. Plenty of hits and misses.

Well maybe Kevin didn't save the world but gave fans 16 enjoyable episodes.

Just my two cents.

You can't not like Jason Ritter (who is also the spitting image of his late and talented father). There is simply nothing to not like. In this show, he is funny, vulnerable, kind and all too human. However, I find the female characters rather b*tchy - this comes from a female reviewer. Even his angelic mentor can be rather obnoxious. But nasty females aside, this is an engaging show. It is a dramady - not fully comedic, and not fully dramatic, it does deal with real issues and the characters he encounters will warm your heart. The scene in the airport with the pencil seller is not to be missed. It is a refreshing change from the violence and filth that seem to be dominating the airwaves. I highly recommend it.

That is John Ritter and JoAnna Garcia Swisher. Personally I thought a second season was in order but alas it wasn't to be. ABC cancelled it after 16 episodes.

The original title was supposed to be "The Gospel Of Kevin.' ....but it was changed as show was spiritual as opposed to openly religious.

Jason certainly had some of his dad's chops in this show. (I had seen him before in the "mockumentary period piece".... Another Period).

I guess Kevin didn't get a chance to "save the world" with so few episodes. It is an enjoyable series if you have a chance to catch it.

As another reviewer stated accurately, ratings are everything.

Okay let's get this out of the way. First off, Kevin is kinda a knucklehead, but I can't help but relate to him. He expresses himself so openly and transparently that it makes me appreciate the child in us all. But Kevin Is also bold when he needs to be and willing to acknowledge his own shortcomings (albeit with the help of his soulful guardian). This is a quality I find severely lacking and not often addressed either in entertainment or real life. The producers are sending the obvious message of return to traditional family values vs let's just throw more grit and eye candy on the screen for the sheeple. It is a bold move, but I applaud it and look forward to any effort of its like.
