Disney Had Plans to Use AI for Dwayne Johnson's Maui in the Live-Action Moana
Image
For decades, sci-fi films have been using AI and the rise of technology as a villain, theorizing what could happen if robots could become sentient. However, few films tackling the rise of technology saw it take over creative jobs.

However, that has been happening more often than not. Although films and shows openly using AI have been receiving backlash from the public, more studios are looking into it, even Disney. Per a recent report from The Wall Street Journal, The Walt Disney Company recently considered digitally cloning Dwayne Johnson for the upcoming live-action Moana film.

Following the success of Moana in 2016, the studio didn't know how to continue the Polynesian Disney Princess' story. Initially, there were plans to continue Moana's story as a television series, which was later turned into a feature sequel that grossed over $1 billion at the box office last year. Ahead of the sequel, Disney had...

'Voltron' Star Teases Henry Cavill's "Dreamy" Role in 80s Franchise Reboot
Image
The lions are roaring back — and this time, they've got some serious star power. At San Diego Comic-Con, Voltron star Sterling K. Brown gave fans a long-awaited update on the upcoming live-action reboot of the beloved '80s animated series. While tight-lipped on plot specifics, Brown couldn’t help but tease a few intriguing details — including the role of his high-profile co-star, Henry Cavill.

“He’s dreamy,” Brown said with a grin during the Paradise panel, where Collider was in attendance. “That’s all I’ll say.” But he didn’t stop there. Describing the film as “heartfelt… big and bodacious and dynamic,” the Emmy winner explained that post-production on the project is so ambitious, it's taking a full 48 weeks to complete.

That timeline would set Voltron up for a likely spring 2026 release — which lines up with previous reports that Amazon MGM Studios was targeting the blockbuster as part of its 2026 theatrical slate.

Voltron Star Hypes Upcoming Live-Action Movie & Unexpectedly Reveals New Detail
Image
Voltron star Sterling K. Brown shares new details about the live-action adaptation at San Diego Comic-Con. Starring Brown, Henry Cavill, and Rita Ora, the new Voltron movie, based on the beloved '80s animated television series, is in development with Amazon MGM Studios.

Currently without a release date, production on Voltron was wrapped in May, with the movie expected to be part of Amazon MGM's 2026 slate. It was directed by Rawson Marshall Thurber.

At the Paradise panel at the Sdcc, where ScreenRant was in attendance, Brown revealed unexpected new details about the upcoming Voltron movie. When asked about the adaptation, Brown tried to play coy, insisting that he wasn't at liberty to talk about it.

However, he teased Cavill's "dreamy" role and described the film as being "heartfelt... big and bodacious and dynamic," which is why the post-production is taking 48 weeks. He also shared that he would sign a contract for a sequel,...

Happy Gilmore 2 Villain Benny Safdie on Dwayne Johnson’s A24 Oscar Contender: “I could ask him to do anything”
Image
Benny Safdie, who portrayed the villainous role in Adam Sandler’s Happy Gilmore 2, is also the director who is going to direct Dwayne Johnson in the upcoming A24 movie, The Smashing Machine.

Based on the real-life story of Mark Kerr, who reached the peak of his Mma/UFC career but struggled with his personal life, The Smashing Machine is one of A24’s most anticipated movies.

Director Benny Safdie revealed in an interview with Time that he was really impressed and proud of what Dwayne Johnson was willing to do for the movie.

I could just see how passionate he was and I felt the same way. So it was really us trying to understand ourselves through this character. I felt like I could ask him to do anything and he would pull it out like it was nothing.

He continued,

He had a lot of respect for Mark...

Henry Cavill's Voltron movie got the exciting update we were waiting for
Image
With Superman flying into theaters on July 11, many DC fans are missing seeing Henry Cavill on our screens. And, as quiet as it has been kept, his live-action adaption of the Japanese super robot anime series Voltron has just recently wrapped production.

Although it only had three seasons during the Halcyon Days of Saturday morning cartoons, the cult following it has developed has kept the Voltron mystique alive and well decades later. The good news is that the movie is set to take that to the next stage.

Producer of the film Bob Koplar recently confirmed that the film had wrapped production via the Voltron handle on Instagram, which left fans excited about the upcoming adaptation.

Dwayne Johnson to star in a psychological thriller from A24
Image
It seems like Dwayne Johnson is saying goodbye to his days of solely being known as an action hero and embracing his new acting era. He recently worked with A24 on the Mma movie The Smashing Machine, releasing later this year, and now he will team up with the indie studio once again for a psychological thriller titled Breakthrough.

According to Deadline, the new thriller is from Zeke Goodman, who previously starred in Amazon's short-lived I Know What You Did Last Summer series and the streamer's take on Cruel Intentions.

The film sounds a little bit like some of the other movies we've seen produced by A24, such as The Menu and Opus. It follows "an alienated young man who comes under the influence of a motivational guru, whose intoxicating charm masks his morally questionable methods of manipulation and his own concealed darkness."

Johnson will reportedly be playing the guru role,...

Dwayne Johnson's Action Thriller 'Skyscraper' Is Climbing the Streaming Charts
Image
In the late 2010s, if you needed a leading man for a brains-off action/adventure movie, you called one person: Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's agent. For a solid 5 years, The Rock was a fixture of movies that, at one time, would have been the perfect "sick on a Saturday" TNT rock block of entertainment. One of these popcorn flicks is 2018's Skyscraper, which is currently climbing the streaming charts. Skyscraper finds Johnson starring as Will Sawyer, a former FBI agent and amputee who, after injuries sustained while on a hostage rescue mission, becomes a security consultant for high-rise buildings. After terrorists capture the tallest building in the world in Hong Kong and try and extort its developer, Sawyer must rescue his family, who are trapped inside the burning structure.

Written, co-produced, and directed by Rawson Marshall Thurber, who reunited with The Rock on the huge Netflix action hit Red Notice...

'Snitch' Starring Dwayne Johnson is a Streaming Hit on Tubi
Image
For a film that you would be hard-pressed to find on a list of Dwayne Johnson’s best movies, Snitch is one of those movies that just keeps coming back time and time again on free streaming platforms. This time, the 2013 movie has resurfaced on Tubi and has been holding strong mid-top 10 for the best part of a week.

Snitch centers on John Matthews (Johnson), a father whose teenage son lands in prison after unwittingly accepting a package filled with illegal substances. The tough sentencing guidelines mean a hefty prison sentence, but Matthews offers to infiltrate a dangerous cartel on behalf of the DEA, all in hopes of reducing his son’s sentence. Unlike Johnson’s usual roles that are all about brutal showdowns and brute strength, this time he relies more on his emotions and has to play a role that relies on more than his muscles.

Surprisingly, the...

Image
Alexandra Daddario was recently asked by Elle magazine to name the “most outrageous rumor” about herself “that won’t go away.” She didn’t hesitate to give an answer: “That I’m a bad actress.”

“I’m not a bad actress,” Daddario said. “I’ve just done some projects that don’t showcase me in the way that I should be showcased. Okay? Directing and the writing is everything. Sometime’s I’m lit poorly, but I’m not a bad actress. I got an Emmy nomination. How do you think I did that?”

‘Cleaner’ Review: Daisy Ridley Does Die Hard in a Film That Doesn’t Try Hard
Image
Here’s a weird fact: Shortly before the tragic events of 9/11, Jackie Chan was in pre-production on an action movie called “Nosebleed,” in which he would have played a window washer fighting terrorists at the World Trade Center. That movie obviously never got made, but the concept has apparently been floating around in the ether, because nearly 25 years later we’ve got “Cleaner,” a “Die Hard” knockoff starring Daisy Ridley as a window washer fighting terrorists on a different skyscraper.

As “Die Hard” knockoffs go, it could be worse.

“Die Hard” knockoffs are their own subgenre, in case you hadn’t noticed, and there sure are a lot of them. The formula is simple: Bad guys take over a specific location, a good guy is trapped in that location with them, and the good guy takes down those bad guys one at a time. In the years that followed John McTiernan...

Dwayne Johnson's $428M Video Game Adaptation Coming To New Streaming Home Later This Month
Image
A Dwayne Johnsonaction movie that grossed $428 million is getting a new streaming home. Decades after making his WWE debut, Johnson is now one of the most recognizable movie stars on the planet. Following his jump to acting, Johnson appeared in a number of action movies, like The Rundown (2003), Faster (2010), Fast Five (2011), Snitch (2013), and Pain & Gain (2013). More recently, Johnson has embraced more family-friendly fare, but that doesn't mean he's left his action roots behind.

The mid and late 2010s saw the release of a handful of classic Johnson action movies, but the budgets got larger and they became action blockbusters instead of genre movies in the mid-budget space, reflecting the actor's growing star power. In addition to several Fast & Furious movies, Johnson starred in San Andreas in 2015 before going on to have a big year in 2018, starring in two buzzy titles. One of these titles was Skyscraper, which was ultimately a disappointment,...

Rhino has unveiled a new David Lee Roth box set, The Warner Recordings 1985-1994, arriving on vinyl and CD on February 21st.

The 5-lp and 5-cd box sets house Roth’s solo recordings following his exit from Van Halen in 1985, beginning with the Crazy from the Heat EP and its hit song “Just a Gigolo.”

Dlr followed that up with the successful Eat ‘Em and Smile LP in 1986, featuring Roth teamed up with an all-star backing band featuring bassist Billy Sheehan, drummer Gregg Bissonette, and guitar virtuoso Steve Vai. Roth then went on to release three more LPs on Warner including 1988’s Skyscraper, 1991’s A Little Ain’t Enough, and 1994’s Your Filthy Little Mouth.

Of note for collectors, the upcoming vinyl box set will contain the first-ever repressing of Your Filthy Little Mouth, which was only released on vinyl in Germany in 1994, making it a scarce and pricey original pressing.

Red One’s Box Office Nosedive Can Help Dwayne Johnson Break His Most Humiliating Hollywood Curse
Image
Dwayne Johnson, known for his action-packed roles in Hollywood, is no stranger to the pitfalls of typecasting. Fans often argue that the WWE star has basically made an acting career out of the same role.

However, the lackluster reception of Red One might provide an unexpected opportunity for The Rock to pivot his career and shatter the perception that he’s stuck playing the same rugged, wisecracking hero in every movie. Dwayne Johnson has, after all, shown his acting range in the past, but this seems to be more of a case of how audiences and Hollywood creators view him, rather than a lack of ability.

Emily Blunt Says Dwayne Johnson Is "Unrecognizable" in 'The Smashing Machine'
Image
When you talk about Dwayne Johnson, it's inevitable that there will be some people who complain that he always plays the same character in all of his movies. It certainly appears that way, as his roles in the likes of Jungle Cruise, Jumanji, Rampage, and Skyscraper all seem interchangeable with one another, which is to say there isn’t too much depth to them. When it comes to The Smashing Machine, however, Johnson’s co-star, Emily Blunt, says that the 52-year-old is "unrecognizable" in the Mma drama, which bodes well for its future.

Directed by Benny Safdie, The Smashing Machine tells the true story of fighter Mark Kerr and the various struggles he’s faced throughout his life, including addiction. Johnson takes point in the A24 biopic, playing against type in what some are already calling an Academy Award-winning performance. Fast & Furious 11 Can Finally Bring Back The Real Luke Hobbs After The Rock’s Fast X Return
Image
After Dwayne Johnson’s unexpected return in Fast X, Fast & Furious 11 needs to bring back the real Luke Hobbs — the reckless, morally gray antihero — not the generic The Rock character he’s become. After breaking off to appear in his own spin-off with Hobbs & Shaw and being suspiciously absent from F9, Hobbs made a surprise return in Fast X. As Dante Reyes continued his quest to pick off everyone in Dom Toretto’s crew in retaliation for his father’s death, he called Hobbs and warned him that he was his next target.

While it’s exciting that Hobbs is back and he can get a proper ending in Fast & Furious 11, Hobbs hasn’t really been Hobbs for a few movies now. As Johnson’s movie star image has evolved (into something far less interesting), Hobbs has become a much safer character in the Fast & Furious franchise. Now that...

That is going to be the focus of this report.

Namely, it has just been revealed that Johnson has broken some records in that aspect and that he is now among the highest-grossing actors of all time when Hollywood is concerned. Whatever you might think of him as an actor or a person,...

In recent years fans’ tendency to pick a fight on anything and everything has annoyed many across the world. Theatre etiquette has been a hot topic of discussion, especially since the release of the anticipated Wicked musical adaptation.

However, Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson has a polarizing view on the subject. The Moana actor stated viewers deserve to sing along during musicals, an opinion that may offend many.

Dwayne Johnson & Chris Evans’ $200M+ Christmas Action Movie ‘Red One’ Opens To $34M: Is It A Bomb Or A Streamer’s Rounding Error? — Sunday Am Box Office
Image
Sunday Am Writethru: Refresh for more updates, chart and analysis…. “Treat them the same way you treat us! How dare you?!” are some of the screams I’ve been getting from traditional major studios when it comes to the chilly box office performance of the Dwayne Johnson and Chris Evans $200M Christmas action movie Red One. (“No! It’s $250M!” exclaims an Amazon vet with knowledge). And at an opening of $34M, after a $10.9M Friday, and even a Saturday family lift of $13.2M, we can’t ignore the fact that we’ve seen better from The Rock, as far as his solo non-Fast & Furious projects go. EntTelligence says that only 2.4M people watched Red One this weekend — which ain’t much.

The movie’s A- CinemaScore is better than Johnson’s Black Adam and Skyscraper‘s B+s and the same as Rampage. The 88% on Rotten Tomatoes...

Box office update: Red One on track for The Rock’s lowest opening since Skyscraper
Image
Just as we predicted earlier this week, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s mega-budget Christmas action-comedy, Red One, is set for one of the star’s lowest debuts. While the $30 million Deadline is predicting isn’t quite as bad as the $25 million we called earlier this week, given the movie’s $250 million price tag, this has to be seen as an embarrassing failure for The Rock. When all is said and done, he hasn’t had a legitimate box office smash since Jumanji: The Next Level back in 2019.

The one glimmer of hope for Red One is the fact that the movie has a surprisingly excellent CinemaScore, with the A-minus rating suggesting those who are going to see the movie are actually enjoying it. While I slammed it in my review, even if the movie fails theatrically, it will likely be a solid hit once it hits streaming, with it set...

As ‘Red One’ Hits Theaters, Seven Bucks Productions Contemplates Life Beyond Dwayne Johnson
Image
The principals of Seven Bucks Productions –Dwayne Johnson, Dany Garcia and Hiram Garcia – are between The Rock and a hard place.

The 12-year-old film and TV shop was one of the earliest prototypes for a modern production company built around a megastar. These were businesses created to give more control and equity to figures like Johnson and his contemporaries. But as Hollywood struggles with consolidation and a cash crunch, scaling past the big name behind the brand may be essential for their long-term survival.

Some celebrity-backed companies have chosen to move into ancillary businesses beyond the movies and shows that made an actor an A-lister. Witherspoon, for instance, has become more consequential to book publishing than anyone might have predicted when Hello Sunshine launched. And Robbie and her partners at LuckyChap haven’t just made projects for the “Barbie” actress. Guided by great taste, they’ve partnered with cutting-edge creatives...

Does Red One Have A Post-Credits Scene?
Image
Red One is a potential franchise starter for Dwayne Johnson and Chris Evans, leaving questions about whether there's a post-credits scene teasing more to come. The 2024 Christmas movie dives into the action fantasy genre with The Rock and Evans teaming up to headline Red One's cast, as their characters - Callum Drift and Jack O'Malley - work together to save Santa Claus (J.K. Simmons) and Christmas. The combination of their star power and the widespread appeal of Christmas made the movie one that had franchise and sequel aspirations from the moment it was announced.

The possibility of Red One 2 being made already exists, even if a sequel has yet to be formally announced. Despite any issues that Amazon MGM ran into with Red One's budget, the film's hope in the conceptual stages to introduce audiences to "a whole new universe to explore within the holiday genre" speaks for...

Cameron Diaz And Jamie Foxx Are Spy Spouses In The Trailer For Netflix Comedy Movie Back In Action
Image
The last time Cameron Diaz and Jamie Foxx shared the screen, they were playing the villainous Miss Hannigan and tech billionaire-turned-adoptee Will Stacks in 2014's Annie remake. That movie musical also happens to be the last time Diaz shared the screen with, well, anyone, as the Charlie's Angels star went on a decade-long acting sabbatical following the movie's release (the two events are presumably unrelated.) But now Diaz and Foxx are back back back in the very shrewdly titled Back In Action, which is not as it happens a remake of *that* Looney Tunes movie (sadly), but rather a buzzy, Netflix bound spy comedy from writer-director Seth Gordon (Horrible Bosses) and co-scribe Brendan O'Brien (Bad Neighbours). Check out the action-packed trailer below:

"Tonight something clicked," says Diaz' Emily to husband Matt (Foxx) at the start of this new trailer, "for the first time in a really long time I felt alive again.

Red One's Cast & Character Guide
Image
Red One has quite the star-studded cast sliding onto Santa's sleigh this November. Like many Christmas comedies before it, Santa is a central character in Red One. This time, he's kidnapped right before his one big job of delivering presents around the world. It's up to some major action stars, Dwayne Johnson and Chris Evans, to save Santa and, ultimately, Christmas.

The cast is quite a good one, with resident movie and TV mom and dad Bonnie Hunt and J.K. Simmons taking on the titular roles of Mr. and Mrs. Claus. Kiernan Shipka has a more magical role as an evil snow witch who preys on naughty children, while Lucy Liu keeps Johnson and Evan's characters in line as they race against the clock to rescue Jolly St. Nick.

‘Red One’ Rocks To $27M Early Offshore Start, ‘Venom: The Last Dance’ Waltzes Towards $400M Global & ‘The Wild Robot’ Nears $300M – International Box Office
Image
Updated: New this weekend at the international box office, Warner Bros began pre-domestic release on Amazon MGM Studios’ Red One. The opening numbers on the Christmas-themed Seven Bucks production are within the range we expected heading into the frame, coming in at $26.6M from 75 offshore markets.

For Latin America, the film ranked No. 2 behind the 3rd weekend of Venom: The Last Dance, but results are above comps like Central Intelligence (+35%).

In Europe, and at today’s rates, Red One is tracking ahead of Central Intelligence (+9%) and Skyscraper (+15%).

Asia was not expected to excel; however in the region (excluding China and Japan), reviews were mostly positive, and the film ranked as the No. 1 or No. 2 U.S. title in all but two markets.

Overall, the Dwayne Johnson/Chris Evans-starrer saw strong Saturday performance across nearly all markets with family audiences propelling results; this bodes well for the weeks to come...
