not a bad movie but lacks certain things

The movie is interesting, the script is good but the main male actor seems a bit weak in his acting ..and the climax could have been better..but can be watched as a one time movie

Dark and fascinating story about returning to your roots

Darkness Visible mostly takes place in India, with stunning establishing shots and displays of the beautiful architecture. India also serves as the backdrop to the horrifying and gruesome events happening in the film and it fits with its dark and gritty tone. The horror and suspense are fantastic, but what strikes me the most is the character of Ronnie and his journey as he goes to his roots and learns more about who he is. This movie is far from a story about someone re-discovering themselves after returning to their hometown in a traditional sense, but the core of the story is about just that. Ronnie has been cut out completely from his dark and troubling past and he is now forced to confront it. He learns more about his family and how he is connected to his hometown in more ways than he thought. The way that the supernatural is connected to that idea of going back to your roots is extremely unique and unlike anything I have ever seen before.

Good, but slow

Darkness Visible was a good movie, but it took a few days of coming back to it because it went very slow. The storyline, acting, location/set were all good. As for the story, I wouldn't say this is a knock off, but it reminded me of Angel Heart.

I wasn't expecting that ending!

Good horror film where things started to come to "light" closer to the end of the movie. I wanted to scream at the screen: Ronnie, go back to London! Ronnie, don't go down that dark alley!! Don't read or hear any spoiler alerts before watching.

Original Story

This movie's a must watch for any true horror film fans! As someone who watches a good amount of supernatural based horror movies, I'd say the story line of Darkness Visible felt pretty original. It was primarily set in east India, and all the supernatural aspects were based on Indian religious beliefs, which made them appear even creepier. Definitely don't think anyone who watches this movie will be bored.

Slow Burner

I enjoyed this story. The actors and script were not without flaws but it was decent. It was slow but I thought that the suspense built with the pace well. I liked that there were several twists throughout the film and that each one kept my interest peaked. It was worth the watch.

Skip this one

I don't know where these 9 and 8 ratings are coming from but it's bullocks. This movie is in no way scary and the movie becomes a complete mess in the second half. I was bored and it was a struggle to finish watching this movie. Next.

One of the best cultural horrors!

This movie is well worth watching! A great diversion from American horror that seems to be out of fresh ideas! If I say anymore it would spoil it for those of you that have not seen it yet. It kept a great pace, and explained things well enough so that each scene flowed into the next one nicely! Good story line, and dialogue was decent. I know so very little about the India culture so the stories twists and turns were fast enough moving to hold the interest in the story line. Truly worth the time to watch.

Great plot, visuals, and ending

Darkness Visible offers viewers the unique opportunity of experiencing a horror film in a rather exotic setting. The backdrop of bustling streets in India and intricate city streetways compliment the films fast-paced nature, as you follow main character Ronnie in his pursuit of the truth about his mother's murder. The many plot twists throughout the film do not deter, but rather capture the audience's attention, encouraging them to formulate their own conclusions and theories about what is going on. Director Neil Biswas employs rather dark and graphic visuals to convey an overwhelming sense of darkness, as the movie title implies, and suspense, throughout the film. This unique depiction of the classic "supernatural murder mystery" shows promise for the future of the horror genre and Biswas's talents, distinguishing himself and his movie in a category of film that appears to be oversaturated.

A SOLID 9/10

There's only been about half a dozen horror and thriller films that've really glued me to my seat during the past 10 years... and this one right here is one of them.

Admittedly, and foolishly, the film has far better acting than what I first thought when watching the trailer. The music is spot on, combined with a solid story and strong dialogues.

See for yourselves. You won't be disappointed.

A fresh supernatural horror/thriller

Darkness Visible is an unsettling and unfamiliar new addition to the supernatural horror/thriller genre. Taking place in India, the film feels decidedly different from western films as it draws its scares/nightmares from a culture that the average American may know very little about. Aware of this unfamiliarity, the film features a protagonist, Ronnie, who also knows very little about the culture and customs of the land he's been forced to suddenly travel to after his mother's mysterious disappearance. After arriving in India, the film turns into more of a crime thriller with Ronnie as the investigator in a string of serial murders. From there, the main antagonist is introduced, an evil witch named Rakhee, who seems to have it out for Ronnie and those around him. I won't give away any more than that, but just know that the Indian witchcraft featured in the film is intriguing and makes for some pretty convincing scares. Beyond the story, I found that the film's score and excellent cinematography captured my attention and made me feel very immersed. A good soundtrack and good visuals go a long way with any film but can really make or break it when it comes to horror movies, thankfully Darkness Visible delivered on these elements and were able to draw me in. I had a great time watching this film and would recommend it to anyone that would like a fresh horror/thriller.

One of the Best True Demon/Supernatural Horror Films!

Ever wonder what happens to deep, dark family secrets after the parents die? Where do they go? Are they just forgotten or do they slip out even more to destroy more lives now that their gatekeepers are dead? Or do the parents simply take their secrets to the grave with them? If one thing is for certain, Neil Biswas' film will definitely make you wish that ominous secrets die with their gatekeepers, because this film shows exactly the chaos and havoc that secrets reap on others if they outlive their gatekeepers. And exactly why those secrets should never see the light of day. The audience sees the consequences of loose lips sinking ships when Protagonist, Randal, (played by Jaz Deol) experiences first hand what happens when his mother's deep dark secret comes to light in this supernatural thriller. I recommend this movie to those who believe in the supernatural and in demon possession as this movie deeply explores the realms of both and pushes boundaries.

Coming of age

This is one of those horror films where alot of the audience will say "what the **** was that all about" at the end. Of course, in horror film terms that isn't always a bad thing and in this case it definitely isn't! There are a lot of tropes from standard horror films here - serial killers, the anti-christ, the apocalypse. But treated in a very different way because it is an indian film. One of the things I liked most about it was that there was no attempt to shoehorn an eco guilt trip into the storyline - which seems to be de-rigeur in almost every film nowadays. I would definitely watch the sequel if they made one...

Ominous, remarkable film.

This is a remarkable film. Neil Biswas has created a creepy, supernatural thriller with "Darkness Visible." Based in India, Ronnie uncovers a series of strangely similar murders correlating with his mothers. While Ronnie is in India, odd things begin to happen to him. This film is intense, spine chilling, and ominous. The scene in the asylum is horrifying. Highly recommend to anyone who enjoys thrillers!

Not so typical dark and twisted horror film

Being a lover of traveling and all things that culture brings, made me appreciate Darkness Visible in a new light. Ronnie who is a 28-year-old just living his life wakes up to find out his mother has been hospitalized in India, where he has never stepped foot in but has many family members residing in. Upon arrival into this new world that he feels he should be more connected to considering his ethnicity, he comes to find out some seriously disturbing things that his mother has been shielding from him for all of his existence. After Ronnie continues to find murders happening with the same symbol that was around his mother's body following her death, he realizes that he needs to come to the bottom of this before his fate is taken from him too. Throughout the film we see Ronnie taking different paths into solving this extremely strange and disturbing murder mystery, and it's not until the end that we find out what happens. And let's just say that it had me on the edge of my seat with my heart pumping out of my chest. I absolutely love when a movie has a good plot twist, and just an intense ending to finish off a good story. Strongly suggest this movie if you love a good adrenaline rush because it will for sure give you one.

Spine-chilling and suspenseful!

I am still trying to get over the chills this film gave me! "Darkness Visible" astonished me from beginning to end, keeping me on my toes throughout trying to figure out the murder mystery along with the characters. The film follows Ronnie (played by Jaz Deol, who I will be watching out for in the future) as he discovers a chain of ritualistic murders beginning with his own mother's and uncovers the evil that lies beneath the surface. What truly caught me off guard about this movie, beyond the obviously thrilling plot, was the decision to have the film based in India, a place that is foreign to me as well as to the protagonist, creating even more uncertainty and suspense. The film flows as a supernatural thriller would; however, being set in India, there are wonderful elements of superstition and cultural beliefs interwoven that the protagonist, and frankly I, had a hard time grasping, allowing for the mystery to take to the last minutes of the film to be solved. I also loved the use of color in the film that greatly differentiated it from the last few supernatural thrillers I've seen. Usually the films are in the stereotypical dark settings, which the film does have a significant share of, yet "Darkness Visible" has obvious Indian film influences with the use of color to further emphasize the story unfolding on the screen. I suggest you allow yourself to be taken away by this movie!
