Avis à la une
I like the concept and idea of the film as it is something fresh on a lackluster social media internet crazed genre.
This had the making to be a stand out film if it had backing and with that backing a bigger budget and more in-depth script, selfie from hell suffers from a rushed story. As said before I liked the idea of this film but what we got was not great with sound effects that came from the cutting room floor of insidious to the film only running for just over an hour.
Selfie from hell had the potential to be great but with a tight budget and a rushed story and script it falls flat on its face which I'm disappointed in as was hoping for much better.

A film with a title like this can go one of two ways.
It can be quirky and inspired, not afraid to poke fun at itself and deliver a self aware dose of horror fun.
It could also be bottom feeder 'appeal to the kids' effluent.
Guess which path this film took?
The horrible latter that's what...there's nothing really wrong with any of the surface elements and especially early on in the film you could sort of see some effort put in, but this doesn't last as the ludicrous plot and motivations come to the fore.
Nothing really wrong with the lead actress who does try and make the best of what she's been given...but all the other actors are not convincing in the slightest and only sought to worsen the already broken atmosphere.
Plenty of really loud jump scares...none of which are in the least bit alarming.
When this inevitably appears on Netflix I would avoid it like the plague.

Girl has her cousin coming to stay and is supposed to be bringing her new boyfriend. Boyfriend's ill so he didn't come and her cousin is distracted by something sinister going on in her life connected to the dark web...
This goes all out for horror atmosphere and, by and large, succeeds in this endeavour, though I do find jump scares a cheap, unwelcome, and unnecessary tactic in horror movies.
The acting is okay, certainly nothing that would warrant a bad review.
The writing and directing were a bit irritating like, for horror effects, leaving rooms in the dark when any normal person would put a light on - especially if there is any chance there's a demonic presence in your immediate vicinity. Also, if you have someone visiting it would be polite to call an ambulance if they are catatonic. It's those kind of details that see the rating stars dropping swiftly by the minute as the movie unfolds.
Would I recommend it or watch it again? No.
This is all about horror sequences so if you like that and don't worry about the mindless plot holes and irrational behaviour then give it a go.
One other thing that springs to mind is the music score which at one point I think they actually tried to drive the viewers mad with a ridiculous heatbeat-like clanging sound that was far too loud and went on for so long that I had to remove my earphones.

The beginning of the movie was excited, but speedily i got disappointed, actually it was boring and waste of time, I do not recommend this movie, the idea was great and i love't especially since the name attracted me, so do not fall into the trap that I fell in.
Was drawn into seeing 'Selfie from Hell' with a cool poster/cover, a very intriguing if not creative premise and as someone with a general appreciation for horror. That it was low-budget, which from frequent personal experience is rarely a good sign due to that there are so many poor ones out there, made me though apprehensive.
'Selfie from Hell' is a film it doesn't do enough with its potential (although there are far bigger wastes of potential in film) and could have been much better, can't say that it is a great film because it isn't. It is not a terrible film though, as far as recent low-budget film viewings go it's one of the lacklustre but watchable ones easily. It certainly could have been far worse, considering the large number of films seen recently being mediocre at best and terrible at worst.
Although 'Selfie from Hell' is far from great and could have been much better, will agree who consider the rating too low. Have seen far worse films recently that have a higher rating, for example a few irredeemably awful films that get around 4.4.
Lets start with the positives. The setting is atmospheric and spooky and 'Selfie from Hell' is surprisingly well shot and easy on the eye, was expecting a cheap looking film and to me that wasn't the case here.
'Selfie from Hell's' at least doesn't have one want to tear their hair out or annoyed. There are suspenseful and creepy moments and there are parts that capture the horror of this very dangerous subject very well.
Albeit, it could have explored the subject more. It could have been more enlightening and said more of what was not already known. The creepiness is not sustained all the way through, with the horror and tension giving away later to dullness and a lack of creativity and shocks. Things start not making much sense and gets silly. The acting is not amateurish as such but is uninspired.
Further issues are that it was clear that it was written in haste. There is a very rushed and careless feel to the story, especially in the second half where confusion and choppy can be found, and the underdeveloped and scrappy script likewise. The characters are flimsily developed and bland, the direction lacks focus and the music is far too intrusive, sounds cheap and irritating.
In conclusion, lacklustre but not a waste of time. 4/10 Bethany Cox
