....and then they got lost. Maybe it played really well in the area where they filmed but meaningless outside GA. Yes, the acting was stiff and wooden, but that's to be expected in a campy movie - several times I saw the string pulling the cap, nice!
At least it didn't look like shot-on-video garbage or 'found film' excrement, film quality was good and the characters were at least partially believable. The downside was all the subplots that go nowhere and hackneyed clichés of red/blue/black/white/hick/city. And why did the hubcap get relegated to a minor side note?
Oh, at least we didn't have to see guys' gluteus which seems to be the the only skin allowed now.

Stumbling upon the 2021 movie "Hubcap" by random chance here in 2024 and immediately taking a liking to the movie's synopsis, of course I had to sit down and watch what writer and director Dick Mays had to offer. Sure, I had never even heard about the movie prior to sitting down to watching it, so I didn't know what I was in for.
The storyline in "Hubcap" was so wonderfully far out there and bizarre that it was actually quite enjoyable and entertaining to watch. I mean, a movie about a killer hubcap, that pretty much says it all. Sure, there was the 2010 movie "Rubber" about a killer tire, and now "Hubcap" in 2021. It should be said that the storyline in "Hubcap" is definitely not something that will find an appeal with just everyone in the audience; I happened to enjoy it, though.
I wasn't familiar with a single actor or actress on the cast list, but it should be said that they definitely had a good cast ensemble put together for the movie. And I do enjoy sitting down to watch a movie with an entirely unfamiliar cast ensemble, as there are no associations to previously portrayed characters from other movies. The acting performances in "Hubcap" were good, and that definitely added a lot to the overall enjoyment of the movie.
The effects in "Hubcap" were actually good. It wasn't an impressive display of effects or CGI, mind you. But whatever effects were being utilized in the movie definitely worked out nicely and added something to the movie.
While "Hubcap" definitely is a watchable and enjoyable movie, then it is hardly a movie that warrants more than just a single viewing, as the storyline just doesn't have the contents for supporting multiple viewings.
My rating of writer and director Dick Mays's 2021 movie "Hubcap" lands on a five out of ten stars.

I got fooled by some of the reviews saying "give it a chance" or "ridiculously entertaining", but those are shameless lies obviously written by cast or crew of this ridiculous piece of total poop. At first I thought this is a parody and its taking a mickey out of some popular culture or what-not, so I'll give it a chance and wait for some laughs. But lo and behold, nothing funny at all was ever said or done in this disaster of a flick. There are no jokes in this movie, nothing even close, just sadness, bad acting, horrible writing and despair. No horror, no action, no drama...nothing. Well, the hubcap threw a rock at someone at one point using a wooden stick and a garbage pale. Terrific! This most've been some kid's high school project but waited till the last minute and whipped something up over the weekend just to do something, and this is the result: an absolute pice of trash of a movie that does not deserve anyone's time, trust me! It's not worth the disk space it occupied on my hard drive for 2 hours I had it before it got forever deleted and sent to the wastelands of digital trash where it belongs.
I was willing to give this a go, due to it having a reasonable rating on imdb and also a very strange premise. Unfortunately i found this movie to be incredibly tedious with a terrible script, amateur acting, incredibly bad sound quality and poor attempts at comedy (cinematography is fine for the most part). A number of characters introduced were completely pointless and the plot was all over the place. The film really seems to completely run out of steam in the.third act; they even 'shot the rodeo' ....Ive seen some great low and even no budget movies in the past, but this is one everyone can safely skip as you will be missing nothing. Wash your car instead.

A very odd movie about a vengeful hubcap that is the reincarnated spirit of a run over handicapped veteran rolling around a small town helping some people out of a jam and injuring others doing bad things. Whoever came up with this plot is either a genius or crazy as hell. Nothing questionable, no nudity, some foul language, interesting cast of characters that stereotypically define an area in Georgia. The hubcap seems to know who to wreak havok with or scare or save from harm like it has eyes and a conscience as it rolls around or adheres to a car or truck to get to a far destination. Goofy story but strangely odd enough to keep you wondering what will happen next. Very odd indeed. You'll never look at a hubcap the same ever again.
This kind of off-the-wall comedy is what indie filmmaking is all about. If you want your standard comedy then stick to studio movies but if you're a little tire of the same old, same old then give this crazy flick a shot. It is really far out. I don't know what the writer was on but whatever it was it worked. I don't think you can come up with a half-baked idea like this while sober. The movie is very well shot and the acting is fantastic. It is entertaining throughout, which is more than I can say for lots of studio films, and it is, for the most part, fairly clean. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

"Hubcap" delivers a fun, campy horror experience reminiscent of cult classics like Rubber and Christine. Set in a conservative mountain town, the film follows Rainy Lawson, Georgia's first female sheriff, as she takes on a supernatural killer with an unusual form-a possessed hubcap. Alongside the horror, the film weaves in themes of vengeance, romance, and deep-seated social tensions, making for an engaging watch.
The movie embraces its B-movie aesthetic, leaning into the absurdity of its premise while keeping the audience hooked with its eerie atmosphere and unexpected moments of dark humor. It's a blend of supernatural horror and small-town drama that feels fresh and unpredictable.
That said, there are some technical shortcomings, particularly in the sound design. The dialogue mixing is inconsistent, with moments where background noise fluctuates noticeably between cuts. Some lines also seem to suffer from microphone issues, which can be a bit distracting. However, these flaws don't detract too much from the overall experience.
If you enjoy quirky horror films where everyday objects turn deadly, Hubcap is well worth a watch. It's a creative, revenge-driven horror flick with a unique premise, and despite some technical hiccups, it remains thoroughly entertaining.

I know...a movie about a flying hubcap that kills people...you are thinking LSD 3AM obscure channel with nothing else on.... However.....
Give it a chance! The movie wasn't as silly as the title might lead you to believe. There was an actual plot with a couple of subplots that made sense when put together. And the reason for the Hubcap becoming to life again there is a reason behind it...replace "Hubcap" with an animal etc., a protector of the wronged and it does make sense.
Of course the token sex scenes (which IMHO weren't really needed) and some salty F bombs were minor detractions, and a little slow at times but again not too shabby.
And of course the ending leaves open the possibility of a sequel.... How about "The Cap is Back!"
So in conclusion, don't judge by the title alone...put it all together and give it a chance, its not all that bad!

This movie is definitely worth watching. It's a lower budget film with good acting and a great story. The hubcap is important in the movie but don't let it distract you from the deeper stories! This is a movie about people, their pasts, their relationships, and how they fit together. It is a comedy-horror movie with dark elements woven into a story of a Sheriffs life and relationships.
The actors took their roles seriously as each character's view points and motivations can be felt. They capture the small-town lifestyle and relationships well.
The story is so well-written and expressed that it's easy to overlook how intricate it is.
If you watch this expecting a big budget flick that is heavy on special effects but weak on story, you'll be disappointed. But if you watch this wanting a great story with good acting and fun twists, you'll love it.

I'm a horror fan, and my gosh, I've seen everything from high budget gems to low budget tosh, from high budget rubbish to extremely entertaining low budget schlock. When I read this film was about a killer hubcap I assumed the obvious; someone had little money but really wanted to make their horror movie. I was wrong.
I also like well made movies outside of the horror genre. This movie is outside of that genre. What I got was what I assume to be a satirical look at conservative small town America. Sometimes critical, sometimes just humorous, sometimes, I think, quite affectionate. It's about people, communities and institutions. I loved it! The killer hubcap is just a catalyst for the story. And it's a good story, that I won't spoil.

The concept of a film where a hubcap is a killer on the loose (yes, the ones on old fashioned cars!) was so random and novel that it had to be a spoof comedy. I found the film style to be very much like the office TV series in some of its setup and content (which is a good thing) and the characters' deadpan responses to the very wacky idea of a killer hubcap. The film characters don't seem much bothered by the concept and I was waiting to see if anyone would burst out laughing in the story but nothing - all of which adds to the genre of this film. It does have some good twists and turns to keep you watching and the 'victims' of the hubcap all seem totally serious about their encounters with the deadly chrome plated disc. I was so intrigued as to how the filmmakers made the hubcap (real not CGI) move around and roll etc, all of which took me off the issue about a killer hubcap! Crazy yes, but that is the beauty of this film and a well crafted and innovative story. Definitely worth a watch for the fun!

This movie does feature a killer Hubcap, and one might think it is a horror film based on the title and the poster. But this movie ain't that at all. There is a lot happening but my mind wasn't taking it all in, and wtf did I just watch? I had to rewatch the movie.
It is easy to miss, but this movie has a serious story playing out underneath the antics of a roaming hubcap, seeking revenge. Rainy Lawson is a female Sheriff, elected based on the popularity of her father, a lifelong Democrat. But she is a Blue Dot in a Red State and faces pressure to conform and join the political majority. Initially, she tries to go with the flow, working with the DEA to up drug arrests in the county. But soon she faces a moral dilemma and has to choose between her conscience and her career.
Apparently the movie was released in 2021, but today's political climate, with ICE raids creating moral dilemmas on a daily basis, this movie is extremely topical. The Hubcap cuts up a few people, but the gore isn't much and it is really just another character in the movie. The story is a fun romp, with great acting performances from an ensemble cast anchored by Ash Hamilton's nuanced portrayal of Rainy Lawson. Christina Leidel is memorable as a lusty trailer park gal, Rudy Eisenkopf is wonderful as Rainy's loyal deputy, and Roxanne Mims gives the movie an "in the Heat of the Night" vibe, as an intelligent black detective arriving to help figure things out.
When the hubcap exacts its revenge, I thought the movie was over, but it takes a strange twist into romcom territory, before the Hubcap gets resurrected for the ending. I think it could have been tighter, and some of the effects are low budget, but it is definitely different. If you want to watch a gory slasher film this ain't it. I give it a 9 for acting performances, a 5 for production values, and an 8 for story. .That rounds off to a 7/10.

I enjoyed this outrageous horror comedy from director Dick Mays. "Hubcap" is a fun indie with a lot of southern charm. Its Georgia setting is enhanced through casting of multiple quirky and entertaining characters, The love story is endearing. Ash Hamilton as the sheriff is a standout and I found myself rooting for her throughout the film. Quinn Bonza as a junior deputy is also charming and memorable.
The story is both campy fun and engaging, reminiscent of "Dukes of Hazzard", one of my favorite TV show from the 80's. The Hubcap coming to people's defense was hilarious. The film took some unexpected turns to keep the audience on their toes. In this wacky world, anything is possible. The sexy scenes are done tounge in cheek and adds to the charm of this amusing and fun horror comedy.

I just watched the movie HUBCAP!
The movie has a lot of strong scenes that I enjoyed watching and were also quite comical.
The movie is directed and written by Dick Mays. Lead actors I enjoyed watching were Ash Hamilton playing Rainy Lawson and Adam Boyer playing the character of Dr. Bo Adams.
The movie has good suspense, very good dialogue and drama and tons of unique scenes. It's definitely an original movie to watch! It was also shot in a cool way with many cool scenes to see and quite intriguing. The production value is quite high! The story pulls you in many directions as you're watching this movie. I also thought the lead actors had great onscreen chemistry- they were great together and the suspense was very high. The sets are great for an indie movie. I look forward to what this director and filmmaker can achieve in his upcoming bright career! Check this movie out! You'll remember it!

Not anything I would typically watch... but i throughly enjoyed it. It doesn't take itself too seriously but there are some deeper elements...Being from Georgia, I loved the the accents weren't overdone (thank you!). But I can say the backwoods politics of the subplot were dead on. So were the scenes with the teenagers. A little bit of romance, a little sex, a little who dunit, a little bit of humor, good music and not too much blood made for a well rounded story.
It's fun to be surprised by yourself and the things you think you like/dislike.
A very fun and entertaining film! Give it a watch you just might agree!

Do you remember the hubcap pictured in the beginning of The Polar Express? This movie gives that scene a sinister origin story for the shiny and possibly self-aware hubcap vibrating in the opening scene of that classic Christmas movie! What if that object had gone on a mission of revenge and meting out justice? This movie tells that story, so buckle up for a fun ride with some gratuitous sex scenes because the director just wanted to add them for no reason at all. Lol! Based on a true story of the haunting tale of consciousness transfer to an object, this hubcap will track down the truth about this small town's Sheriff's history and delivers a satisfying punishment for the small town sinners. 😀

This film is definitly a worthwhile watch. On a scale from zero to ten I give this film a 9.5! At the recommendation of a friend my daughter & I decided to watch it during one of our "Dinner on Dad" dates this last week. Without really knowing what to expect we ordered in a pizza and sat down to watch....and it kept both of us entertained from start to finish. We actually ended up watching it a second time just to clarify a few differences of option we had on the storyline, cast and plot ( my daughter won most of them). The ending also left us wondering will there be a sequel? We both highly recommend film.

The sleeper of 2024 don't miss this movie, I walked out feeling that was an entertaining couple of hours great plot well acted and quirky unique! Do yourself a favor and enjoy this soon to be a cult classic.
Never knew a movie with a hubcap as the hero can't give away to much of the story line would be so compelling. Well written story acted out by great actors and strong directing with cool music helping keep a quick pace thrilling movie lots of fun!
So if you want to see a movie that's keeps your interest while being funny, suspenseful and clever Hubcap does the trick! Comes across as a Hollywood big budget film well done Everyone!!!

I had no idea what this was about. Never read the reviews or even seen the trailer until the day I watched the movie. I was totally blown away. At first I was like, what is going on? Then it ALL comes to life and makes a new genre of movie making. I enjoyed this from beginning to end. The movie is slow at first and then it pulls you in. I never left the room because I was wanting more and more. It is a unique film about Comedy meets semi horror confronts suspense. I never thought this obscure, new genre could be created. It was riveting and it captivated my curiosity. I need to see this again.

This movie is set in the mountains where I live and I recognized some of the locations. The acting was excellent and the characters were interesting. The film has an ensemble cast, and the hubcap is just one of the characters in this quirky community. The protagonist is the Sheriff, Rainy Lawson, who is well played by Ash Hamilton. I won't give away the story, but it captured my interest and I identified with Rainy's situation. As a blue dot in a red county, it was interesting to see a nuanced portrayal of a sheriff challenged to maintain her values while navigating the realities of her conservative community. I loved it, and the music was excellent.
