Great telenovela set in Colonial Colombia

This is a great story about a young woman in Colombia during the Colonial period who is raised by escaped slaves, eventually makes her way to Spain when the escaped slave colony is overrun and then returns to Colombia hoping to reunite with her slave family and the boy she loved as a child. So although she is white, she identifies with her black family who raised her. This shows the horrors of slavery in the Americas in often pretty gruesome ways. The lead actors - Victoria/Lucia, Nicolas, Miguel, Thomas, Milagros etc - are great. The story has lots of subplots and you see the various dimensions of the characters because this story unfolds over so many episodes. I loved the scenery and the haciendas where the story takes place. Did not like the costumes much, especially the dresses of the ladies which sometimes looked like rejects from a 1970s thrift shop. That was the only jarring note and why I gave it an 8. The lead actress is very beautiful. She will go far I'm sure. Still watching so not sure how it will all end, but really enjoying it!

Incredible array of characters

At first I wasnt sure about this series - with so many slave beatings but it much more three dimensional. There are so many twists and turns of plot and the characters (and or the actors playing the characters) are brilliant. Morales, the overseer, is amazing, showing something slightly enigmatic from the beginning. The only character I couldnt engage with was the older Miguel. I think he was meant to portray some 'nobility' which separated him from the other slaves. However I thought his macho possessive anger just seemed like irritating petulance and a lack of wisdom, compassion and understanding. However I havent got to the end. Peoples behaviour and responses show wisdom and lack of wisdom and morals on all stratas of society. The father or adopted father of Victoria is like a constant. In the background, quiet, steady, wise. Is Morales name a coincidence? Actually the more I think about this film the more I see in it.

The Doors

Never has there been a series with so many shut off rooms in a sweltering climate nor one with so many dramatic door closings. But great fantasy/history guilty-pleasure soap opera with only one ugly actor, the Simon Legree overseer.

Speechless.

I know telenovelas have a bad reputation for some weird reason, but as I was watching this, I realized that I didn't even feel like I was watching a series most of the time. It felt so rich and well- crafted...movie-like, and epic. In a way, like a modern version of a Roots-like tale. Very well done. The acting was perfect, I was completely immersed. Yes, of course, it's a Colombian telenovela, so the characters are over-the-top at times, but it's not even noticeable. La Esclava Blanca is AMAZING. The characters are fleshed-out, the story is realistic, and it's gritty. There are crazy moments, but they are few and far between. During episode 4 (I think), there was a certain scene at the end of the episode that made me think DAMN, this man needs an Oscar or some sort of recognition. Completely spoiler-free: this show is something else entirely. If you haven't watched it yet, you're missing out. I'm a film production major, and the production was MARVELOUS. Watch now.

Bravo!

I just got through Binge-watching this series, and all I can say is WOW! I must say it is by far one of the BEST drama series I have watched in a long time! I didn't even mind watching the subtitles. You never knew what was going to happen from one episode to the next, and the characters surprised you too. I'm so glad everything came together in the end; what can I say? I'm an incurable romantic at heart. Kudos to the writing team, originality is a plus, and I absolutely loved the story-line, and I love how love overcame evil in the end. You know how the saying goes, and its true in real-life "the longer it takes, the harder they fall." This Nicolas character made made J.R. from Dallas look like Mary Poppins! I just love the characters Miguel and Victoria and then Trinidad and Remedios... I don't know what I am going to watch now! What do you watch after that?!!! lol

A Must See Series

I opened the series to watch just to pass time but as the series began I became captivated with the movie. I was glued to the TV. The story line was nothing but remarkable. The inclusive of the African Tribe: Yoruba (The Origin of the name: Olujimi) was magnificent. The acting was incredible. The actors were flawless. No doubt about it, all the major actors deserves Golden Globe or Oscars. I'm so lucky to have found this movies without anyone recommending it to me. However, I've recommended the movies to all my friends and family. After watching the whole series, because I love the series to much, I went back to see it again, and again, until Netflix took it off my list. I think they know that I wouldn't watch anything else :) Damn ! I love that Series !

Not bad, is good, but quite long

I liked the acting, but the plot is quite straight and plain (from A: starting to B: ending), it gets quite boring in the middle, I would clearly cut episodes from 20 to 55 and you wouldn't have miss anything, also the voice of the Marquise starts to get a bit irritating, also saying always the same thing. It is like what happens is that nothing happens, from episode 55 or so it starts to get interesting, but in the middle was all refill. I'd recommend "La Reina de Indias y el Conquistador" (also a Colombian production) instead of this one, it has more stories throughout all the series and is much more entertaining. I'll give The White Slave a decent 7 points, if they would have made it much shorter (maybe 40 episodes or so) then I'd give it an 8.

I am often bored with TV shows, and when I found this I became immersed! It is so well crafted and I was left feeling every emotion along with each actor. I love finding gems like these! This show is AMAZING. What am I supposed to watch now?!!!

A Diverse Novella With Disturbing History

This show is spectacular even though it reflects on the disturbing pass of slavery, racism and sexism. Sure, there is more elements of the show that stand out, but I do not want to spoil any of it. The actors, creators and everyone else apart of this project did an astounding job.

Absolutely amazing!

I just watched the last episode and I'm still wiping the tears from my face. I was sad for it to end and I will be re-watching soon. This was the most breathtaking, visually stunning, at times gut-wrenching, story I have ever seen. And I've seen a lot! Please do yourself a favor and watch! You will not regret it!

Makes Roots look like a children's show!!

La Esclava Blanca is a fantastic series! The performances are top notch as well as the costumes, direction, script, etc. The scenery is breathtaking and beautifully filmed. The horror of slavery is depicted here in an unrelenting and unforgiving manner. This series makes Roots look like a kid's show. At times it is tough to watch. There are also incredibly tender moments. It depicts the resilience of people who are consistently put down and treated less than human. There are also many suspenseful moments where I had just to take a break. Not many series can do that to me.

I also liked that they used actors from many different Hispanic countries, so their accents weren't the same. To me, this added realism to the series, since slaves were captured from different countries and sold and re-sold.

This series is also a great testament to how far women have come. They too were treated so poorly. They lacked as many rights as slaves.

I can go on and on about how good this series is, but I'm afraid that I will spoil it for people that haven't seen it yet. So I'm going to stop with my last words: THIS IS A MUST SEE!

Looks like Another White savior complex movie

1st of all not sure why it's called the "white slave" as she never was actually a slave nor treated like one .apart from spending twelve years with slaves, she had a privileged life...if hanging out with slaves made you one , might has well called that gonzales guy a slave as well since no one actually respected him.the show is good, good plot not too dramatic for a telenovela but they made it all about a white woman with her revenge for a person she loves, rather than the african people and what they went trough...almost as if they needed a show about awhite person in slavery times... I've stopped watching it early on but it looks like she wanted to save more her family and the guy she loved rather than save slaves in general the show is basically ok

Addictive

As I was scrolling through Netflix looking to see what I could watch, I came across this movie. I've never watched a Spanish movie before. Thank you for the English caption. Thank you thank you thank-you. You all have made one of the best movies I have ever watched on netflix. I loved it so much until I watched all 62 episodes 2 times. It was as if I couldn't let the movie go. I loved the way it started, everything in between all the way to the end. Very well thought out. I am looking forward to seeing future movies from this writer. Please continue with the English caption so that I can continue to enjoy your work. I've even recommended this movie to others.

Emotions will run high and low

This is one of the best I have watched in 3 days I have watched 40 episodes and saddened there is no more seasons to view. I know had I been born in this era I would not have made it because injustices is hate, control/superiority and pride. The America's have had some evil ways when it comes to being unified. This is a powerful message when karma pays a visit unexpectedly

Captivating!

I ran across it randomly. Didn't think I'd watch much since I'd have to read subtitles. But from the first episode, it captivated me. Binge watching is putting it mildly. The actors are Fantastic. Even when plotlines jump the shark, you don't even care. You're obsessed with the characters. Bravo to the director who put together this amazing cast. While Victoria and Miguel are compelling, the villains are just as fascinating to watch: Nicolas, his mother, Morally. All the actors deserve KUDOS. I loved it!

THE best series I have watched!!

La Esclava Blanca got me hooked from Episode 1. As a fan of an old American historical TV drama called ROOTS, this took me back emotionally to the same era. ALL actors, leads and supporting characters alike, were EXCELLENT!! There are 62 episodes and I could not get enough. I am a fan of many series produced by Caracol, but I think this HAS to be up there as being their best. Costumes, head pieces, and overall production were glorious! BRAVO! BRAVO!
