Résumé
Reviewers say 'Anne with an E' is acclaimed for heartfelt storytelling, strong performances, and tackling themes like feminism, racism, and LGBTQ+ issues. The series is celebrated for its beautiful cinematography, engaging characters, and emotional depth. However, some critics feel it strays too far from the original 'Anne of Green Gables' books, incorporating modern sociopolitical issues that seem misplaced. Additionally, the series' cancellation has left many disappointed, with unresolved storylines.
Avis à la une
I just came around this page to check for the airing date of episode two and saw there were no reviews yet. So I created an account to write my first review on IMDb, long overdue but definitely worth given the treasure this series is promising to offer.
It is hard to say what exactly makes this series so great. Based on one of the strongest books I read as a child, there certainly is a great base for the story, yet -- as with any adaption of a classic -- just as much a chance to get it all wrong. Luckily, as much as can be said after the first episode, I think we are in for a real treat.
Lets start with the characters. Amybeth McNulty as Anne comes around like an incarnation out of my childhood imagination. Her performance is inspiring, intoxicating and captivating, just as much as the description of Anne in the books of L.M. Montgomery. Geraldine James and R.H. Thomson are performing just as great, both their roles are very minimal in expression but so much on the point. I have not had such an emotional roller coaster in a long time -- and I am ever so glad to see that while almost every other of the great TV series of our time requires war, violence, a terrorist plot, plenty of guns or at least tough bad-asses up to whatever even tougher stuff, a story about a young imaginative and poetic girl searching and fighting for her place in the world, is outperforming everyone else around.
That said, I think this series comes at a very important point in time. It certainly is the story of a strong, intelligent and confident young girl refusing to accept the role a girl supposedly should have in her world, constantly questioning and exploring. We cannot have enough of these kinds of role models. It also is so great to listen to her language, so colorful and descriptive and so much richer than most of what is being aired today. It is the joy about every small wonder that Anne is discovering and describing on her journey, that is contagiously reaching out to me as a viewer, and I celebrate her perspective for its positiveness. More scope for the imagination is what we need!

I was such a huge fan of the Megan Follows depiction of the beloved character Anne. This depiction is also superb. So moving and so much more emotion than the former. They cannot be compared, one no less better than the other. Different but oh so excellent and beautifully acted. I love it!
It is true that we never got over the cancellation of "Anne With An E", one of the most acclaimed series by the public over the last few years. The production, based on the book "Anne of Green Gables", by Lucy Maud Montgomery, was a joint responsibility of the CBC channel and Netflix.
The whole plot is centered on the transformation of Anne's life, an orphan who, after years of experiencing a series of humiliations by the current social assistance system, is going to live with a single woman and her brother.
The program had a strong optimistic message, especially due to the fact that the protagonist, in the meantime, not only revolutionizes her own reality, but also that of her adoptive family and everyone around her.
Now, on the night of last Wednesday (22), the website ScreenRant published an article in which it commented on the reasons why the production would have been taken off the air. According to CBC executive Sally Catto, the registered audience numbers were below expectations and failed to reach the age group between 25 and 54 years - which corresponds to the broadest audience of the broadcaster and, consequently, would jeopardize its continuity.
The fans, in turn, continue to cheer for the production to return on another channel or platform. We sign below and await news! It doesn't hurt to dream, right?

There aren't enough words to describe how much this show means to me. Watching this show has brought me so much hope and happiness. I will forever be eternally grateful for this show and I can only hope that Netflix can find it in their hearts to give us one more season. If you're looking for something lighthearted to watch or just a new show in general, please watch Anne With an E. You won't regret it. The storylines and characters are amazing and they show just how much hard work was put into creating this show.
Anne with an E manages to bring up topics that we rarely see in period dramas. It shows the importance of family, friends, nature, and above all, staying true to yourself. You fall in love with the characters so easily, but they aren't portrayed as perfect, everyone has their flaws but I think that's why so many people are able to relate to them. Anne has made me a better person. I've started to appreciate things I didn't before, it's like I got a new pair of eyes. Nonetheless I recommend it to everyone, no matter the age, give it a try. It will only do you good.
