Avis à la une
Have you ever been sat in a bar, minding your own business, when along comes an extremely hot young woman who chats you up and invites you back to hers for no-strings-attached nookie? No, me neither. But that's what happens to Paul in Ryde (the film, not the seaside town on the Isle of Wight).
Similarly, have you ever been in the company of two incredibly sexy babes for just a few minutes before being invited to take part in a Jacuzzi threesome? Can't say I have, but Paul has.
Come to think of it, Paul (David Wachs) only ever seems to meet women who are in their early twenties, look like glamour models, and find him irresistible. Where are the fat, the ugly and the aged? I guess they prefer to keep their hideousness hidden behind closed doors.
Still, perhaps it's safer that way, because Paul just so happens to be a highly volatile psycho who has taken on the persona of Karl (now dead in the trunk of his car), driver for a taxi app called Ryde. Sluts, drug-users, the obnoxious: all bring out the worst in Paul (AKA Karl). Only the pure and innocent survive a Ryde in HIS car.
Although chock full of mean-spirited violence, mostly perpetrated against defenceless women, Ryde is not just a misogynistic horror film, but a warning to everyone that strangers simply cannot be trusted. Even the seemingly friendliest of people can be total whack jobs. That's what makes this film effective: anyone might be a Paul, ready to stab you in the gut, drown you in your pool, or pummel you in the face until the pulpy mess that was once your head comes right off.
6.5 out of 10, rounded up to 7 for the slick cinematography of L.A., all the beautiful ladies (one of whom obliges us with full frontal nudity), and the nasty violence.

This movie - along with its ratings and quite the sizable chunk of reviews posted here - is very obviously a sham. Seriously, scroll through the review section and you'll find that all 7 or up reviews are posted under similar or exactly the same names, and the profiles have only ever reviewed one picture (you guessed it; this one).
I wonder how the people behind this movie organized this scam. Even on YouTube trailer's comment sections, you spot very obviously fake profiles come and give their positive "take" on the movie.
The movie is utter garbage, and you know it. It is full of plot holes, - that doesn't even do it justice - this movie is the definition of plot holes. The acting jobs were repugnant; in fact, the only horror I felt while watching this god-awful hodgepodge of badly stitched-together scenes with overused scores, and otherwise horrendous cinematography, was the acting. The sound design is not even TV-worthy; it is mixed very poorly, all the sound cuts are clearly recognizable, the voice overs feel like watching a synchronized foreign movie, there are even parts of the voices missing on several occasions where you can clearly see the actors talk. Trailer and movie descriptions all over the web may give you the impression that this is a "fresh take" on horror - which could not be further from the truth. Nothing here is fresh, it's all just a bunch of clusterf*ck clichés mashed into a very poor visualization of what an "uber" horror movie would look like. I could honestly go on forever, but I won't waste any more of my time on this. Just wanted to give you a heads up - DO NOT FALL FOR THE SCAM THAT THIS MOVIE IS.

Firstly I would like to say that IMDb should really review these ratings in order to keep its reputation in order, because I will tell you what...
I have had the work to get the movie, buy stuff to nibble and drink whilst watching a 6.8 rating movie. I swear that by the first quarter of the movie I thought I was watching the wrong movie. I am sure that even my classmates from University could do a better movie than this one. No plot, no story, no emotion, nothing... and the main character acted as badly as my son pretending he is sick when he doesn't want to go to school. Literally, a total mess. If you are to watch this movie, I advise you to go onto Youtube and find a documentary about cab driver serial killers and I bet you will enjoy way more than this worthless piece of amateur filming.
I hope I saved your time.

Let me save you 84 agonising minutes of bad acting, ridiculous scenarios and one of the worst film endings ever. I watched it based on the score it had and the user reviews however, having just wasted those precious minutes of my life I will urge you not to do the same! There really needs to be a minus scoring system on IMDb as somehow there aren't always the words to describe how dire some films are. This would be a prime candidate for the best minus score picture of the year.
I came across this one on a horror site so by reading that it's all about a serial killer I wanted to see it immediately. Now that I have taken the ride i do have something to say about Ryde.
Let me start with the good things. The cinematography is excellent especially while the cab is driving throughout downtown LA. The acting was just above mediocre and the flick do contains it all to become a horror, all about a killer in a cab by calling the app Ryde this delivers on nudity (full frontal) and some murders. Sadly, and that's the thing I didn't like, the killings are rather low on gore or red stuff. Okay, I know, heads are being smashed but it's done twice on the same way. And it's always shown so the gore doesn't come in.
On the other hand, it shows that this is a low budget flick but it works out fine because with the driving you start to know the passengers. To make it complete there are a few scene's that you just didn't see coming. The ending on the other hand was so predictable that it's easy to guess what is going to happen.
Does it fit into the horror genre, well, it's to low on the scary or creepy part to call it a horror but viewers can be offended by the abuse of women, the nudity and the particular smashing of heads. So here we have it, it can be a hard ride for people used to watch thrillers but for horror buffs the ride will be to smoothly.
Gore 1/5 Nudity 1,5/5 Effects 2/5 Story 2/5 Comedy 0/5
