A noble attempt for a C-grade indie film

This film has an identity crisis with its convoluted writing and screenplay that took away from the films message. The pace was too slow and that awful unbearable score made it more evident. Considering there were 3 novice writers, you'd think at least one of them would have fine-tuned the screenplay. The acting was mainly sub-par/amateurish with the exception of Johnny James Fiore, who was adequate. Others were stale or ridiculously overboard. Leif Rokesh directed this film fairly decent considering it's his first notch in film making, but he would have shined if the editing was better. Granted, this was a low budget indie film, but I feel it could have been much better with a little fine tuning and getting rid of that awful score and soundtrack to elevate it from being bland, into having some or little life. Nevertheless, still a noble attempt for a C-grade indie film. 6/10 from me

Enjoyable ...but weak/flawed script

This is not a LGBTQ movie, but rather an Interesting story about friendship that could have been really good if better effort was made to develop characters and their motivation. Script is VERY MESSY and many things simply don't make any sense! The gay character is so badly written and his story is nonsensical; after a fight w/his abusive father, he directs his anger at the main character (whom he has avoided for years).

I enjoyed watching, but afterwards felt quite disappointed while thinking about the many plot gaps, unanswered questions and awful writing.

A touching teen drama

I really enjoyed this. While not really groundbreaking, the cast seemed to really believe in their roles. The ending was unexpected and really got me emotional. The dynamics between the characters were also laudibly presented in my opinion, not making everything revolve around sex like so many high school movies. I would really recommend this to anyone who struggled in high school, had issues with their parents and - most interesting regarding this movie - met someone who really helped them through that period or even just wished they did meet such a person (this is my case and the movie really made an impression on me).

Teens and parents should watch this

Teens and parents should watch this. Teenagers have so many problems that they have to face each day so seeing some of them portrayed on screen can make them feel like they aren't alone. Especially with the rise of social media culture, and getting anything for views and status, it can easily send anyone into a tailspin. The acting is wonderful, you can really feel how everyone takes every subject matter very seriously, and interact with each other accordingly. It shows both perspectives of the victim and victimizer when it comes to bullying, which is really important since other films can only show one perspective. A must watch.

Every high school student must see this!

This is about two high school seniors, both of whom have issues, that needed a true friend and found one in one another. The point here was how far out on a limb one was willing to go to protect the other. The flaws can be overlooked if the message is received!

Representation and Awareness

I thought the movie was phenomenal. It touched me and I feel like I can resonate with some of it. The whole thing really showed a lot of great representation and awareness. It really goes to show how you never know what someone is going through so you should always treat others with kindness, because that can go a long way and it can never hurt to just be genuine towards people. Despite the amazing and talented performances by all the actors, I believe others should watch and give this movie a chance. It truly is a sweet yet sad story and it can touch a lot of peoples hearts and has a strong message that is impactful and inspiring.

This Film Reached Me!

Reach is an emotional rollercoaster, from the opening line I was instantly hooked. This film set out to show us the value in life, and to never take it for granted. It takes us on a journey, dissecting our protagonist's imperfections and why they are the way they are. By far Johnny James Fiore steals the show as Clarence West. In most films this character would be relegated to the comedic sidekick but, I am so glad it's not the case here. Additionally Jordan Doww gives greater depth to Nick Perkins who you'd think would be the one note bully character. It was such a delightful surprise to experience his side of the story, to the point where I was almost wanting more. Of course there's also Garrett Clayton as Steven Turano whose slow progression from suicidal loner to confident musician was portrayed with great reverence. I would highly recommend this film not just for the experience but for its real life values. Suicide is no laughing matter, and many young adults fall victim to it too often. I feel Reach proudly stands in opposition!

An Important And Extremely Relevant Film

In an age where a good majority of teenagers across the states suffer from all kinds of stress and hardships from all sorts of factors, this film in my opinion is an extremely important film to watch not just for them, but also for anyone that has gone through what the characters unfortunately go through in the story. I loved the contrasting tone of the film, and how it's balanced very spaciously. There are both light-hearted and feel-good moments that make the dark and serious moments even more greater, and they are both done with a great deal of realism, whether it be from the acting, or the characters themselves. I think others should absolutely watch this film for all the issues and discussions that can be taken away. No one theme in this film is unimportant, and there's bound to be at least one character or theme that is somewhat relatable to every viewer. The music especially was one of the most amazing aspects of the film, as it really acts as a branching point in better understanding our characters and their mindset. When a character's mind is scrambled with undesirable thoughts, the music is sure to get that feeling in a very effectively uncomfortable way. Overall, I really enjoyed this film and I would urge anyone from teens to adults to check it out and find a connection with one of the many themes and characters in here. I would rate it a solid 8/10.

Watch if you need a good sob!

Wow. This film left me incredibly emotional. I have probably just experienced dozens of emotions while watching these characters endure immensely traumatic events, broken up by tender moments of humor, hope, friendship, and familial reconnections.

Surrounding themes of bullying, loneliness, suicide, alcohol/drug abuse, infidelity, and homicide, this story inspires and empowers a stance against these very real phenomena. There is also an encouragement to understand that as the characters each come from their own flawed backgrounds, their struggles may explain their behaviors and outbursts, but does not justify them, nonetheless.

Overall, this film serves as a great reminder to empathize more, making this a must-watch. The very talented cast, containing some familiar faces, provide some amazing performances with great depth to a well-written story.

YES YES YES

"Reach" is a compelling coming-of-age film that masterfully explores themes of mental health, bullying, and the vital importance of empathy in our lives. What truly sets it apart is the profound emotional depth afforded to each character; no one feels merely like a stock figure. Garrett Clayton delivers a poignant performance that resonates deeply, capturing the struggles and triumphs of youth with authenticity. In a notable turn, Johnny James Fiore brings an unexpected warmth and complexity to his role, adding layers to the narrative. The film's central message an earnest call to treat others with kindness-profoundly resonates, leaving a lasting impression. While it may not be without its flaws, its heartfelt intentions shine through, making it a meaningful watch that lingers long after the credits roll.

Inspiring and Impactful!

This film stood out to me for its emotional depth, layered storytelling, and compelling characters. Each person brought a unique backstory to the screen, enriched by sharp, engaging dialogue that kept me fully invested. Rokesh navigated sensitive subject matter with care, skillfully balancing the weight of reality with a fast-paced, emotionally resonant narrative. I was especially impressed by the creative direction - each scene was thoughtfully constructed to showcase the full range and raw talent of the cast. It was especially powerful to see familiar faces, once known for children's television, reveal such nuanced and mature performances. I'd highly recommend this film to anyone in search of something both thought-provoking and deeply moving.
