George Lawrie, an extra in the film, is the great great grandson of Louisa Gould.
The coin that Louisa gives to Bill is a Jersey 1/13 Shilling of Queen Victoria.
The film's opening prologue reads: ''Jersey. Channel Islands. Summer 1942. The only British territory to fall under Nazi rule. Adolf Hitler orders that Englishmen not born on the islands be deported to Germany with their families. Men captured elsewhere in Europe are brought to the islands and forced to work.'' The film's title 'Another Mother's Son' then appears followed by a title card that states: ''A True Story."
Principal photography on the film began on 9 November 2015 in Bath, Somerset. Filming also took place at the town's historic building Guildhall and West London Film Studios.
The film is based on a true story from the German occupation of the Channel Islands, about a Jersey woman named Louisa Gould (played by Jenny Seagrove), who takes in an escaped young Russian war prisoner (played by Julian Kostov).
