Avis à la une
Directors today sway in two extremes, complete blockbuster plot with zero story and intense moments which would put you to sleep. It is very hard to strike a balance in this competitive market. But this movie is a very bold in mixing the two concepts and giving a real treat to the eyes Granted, the title tells you its a sci-fi flick, that doesn't mean it is just convoluted and the audience has to immerse to understand. It has been explained in a very simple and clear manner, kudos for the director for that.
Actors: Needless to say, script is only as good as the actors and the acting skills of the leads do not disappoint you at all. Its a A-game performance from the trinity of Indian cinema (Hero, Heroine, Villain). From the premise till the end nobody lets you down. They have done justification to their roles and at the same time has not gone over the top. Again, its the director's conditioning that makes such magic.
Karunakaran, for the guy he has been portrayed does not drag the screenplay with stupid questions at all. In fact, the questions he ask will make you understand the movie much better, a perfect use of the second fiddle. Also the comedy relief in the movie was just the right duration. Too much of it would have been irritable and too less would have gone unnoticed. Just the right amount of flavor.
Movies such as this just end without dime or reason, here the director sets up the premise and ends it at the right pace, which is commendable. Does he solve all the mystery? yes. Is the reasons believable? Yes. so what more could you ask for in a sci-fi movie? I have watched the movie "Back to the future" many times and every time i wonder how did they get it so right, heres India's answer to Back To That Future. Just perfect use of Indian cinema sense without giving away the science and technology factor which is a pivotal factor in this movie The only downside of this movie was the songs, i felt it was not needed, but i agree its not a Hollywood movie to do that, but i just hope the director gives many more movies like this rather than just brag about this movie and vanishes from the cinema field.
A must-watch fun sci-fi movie which concludes with a simple message as well.

A brilliantly made time travel sci-fi film in Tamil. The most incredible part of the film is the amount of attention to detail, the makers have given. It deserves much, much more praise than it currently has. The visual effects, though minimal, are beautiful eye candy. I'd say they are at par, if not better than the effects in Enthiran. Several sub-plots of the film pay homage to Hollywood time travel films.
The film would do good to become a cult in Tamil cinema. It should serve as an inspiration to upcoming directors. A well done film amidst other monotonous films currently being released in the Tamil film industry. Hopefully, other well established directors such as Shankar would take a note to establish better stories in his films from this one. Just incredibly brilliant! We'd like more films like this! Kudos, R. Ravi Kumar!

Indru Netru Naalai(2015) Well, fiction blended with fun is always a great watch if crafted well, and Indru Netru Naalai is a local science fiction aptly mixed with fun and emotions. The plot taken here is 'time travel', an interesting, yet less explored theme on Indian screen. The movie has a time machine from the future, which accidentally falls onto the hands of two youngsters, who are trying to make fortune. We have seen movies like Interstellar or Looper which have projections from some certain point of time, making differences in some other point of time. The same kinda approach is adopted by director Ravi Kumar here, but he takes three pillars of comedy and a pillar of emotion to make the movie stand and that makes, Indru Netru Naalai an engaging watch. The director proves his mastery in the start itself, when Pulivetti writes his astrology exam in parallel with the life of Elango, and that scene just lighted the fuse to a string of comedies. He made the movie as simple as possible, without offering any complex stuff, the initial conversation between two scientists, funny yet simple explanation about time travel by that semi-mad scientist, everything made the plot simpler. While the genuine wits in initial half make one laugh to death, the interval block hooks thrill factor, continued by a fully engaging second half. Though, 'all-will-end-good' hope lessens the thrill factor, there was a curiosity about how they are going to end all these, and Ravi Kumar has succeeded in offering that ending, which closes loops, with small exception.
Coming to the performances, Kaunakaran just rocked all the way though he had that usual side-kick role, his comedy timing was simply superb, there was a great chemistry between him and the protagonist, Vishnu Vishal, who too equally impresses, mainly at the emotional scenes. While Mia George does decent job, Jayaprakash has a role made for him. Ravi Shankar's bad ass rowdy was perfect, and TM Karthik's Giridhara Parthasarathy was funnily awesome. A Vasanth's frames were of good quality and Leo Paul's cuts were crisp. Music by Hip Hop Tamizha lies as one of the major highlights of this movie, that theme music is simply addictive; back ground scores were of superior quality.
Overall, Indru Netru Naalai is an entertaining sci-fi which keeps us engaging from the start to end. 'Lag' doesn't even come around its surroundings; A movie that will be enjoyed for its novelty in plot, decent wits and clever scripting.
Final Word: Excellent

This movie has such a well constructed core that makes it very simple to watch even though it is a story about time travel. It got me excited to write a review for it. I congratulate and adore the filmmakers who've given the audience(comprising of a wide range of them) such a beautifully scripted narrative, laying out scenes without any hassle.
FOR THOSE YET TO WATCH(which I presume would be most), this is going to be something of a treat from the regular movies. Watch it with friends and family. Or you could also choose to watch it alone, to miss those annoying ones who pop questions at every chance the movie slips their intellectual capacity. Time well spent. Talent will be appreciated and a show made to entertain. The characters are kept to the usual numbers with the story revolving around the lead characters(hero, heroine, and comedian/bff). It initially seems to layout an easy narrative for the audience to sink in and then takes us on time travel. Funny scenes and time altering scenarios help the audience understand and revel in the plot. The music by HIPHOP TAMIZHA is a good call. More room to improve even though the BGM and title song were new to common ears, but not to a fan like me.
CRITICALLY speaking, its more than what one would call an effort. Its the courage and thoughtfulness to deliver a quality film that I personally feel has respected its graphic/animation/design artists. Kudos to the filmmaker for seeing them through his eyes and for the actors to excel in their characters. Thank you each and every one for not overdoing it! (If you guys read this). This is a movie that has checked in to my favorite-movies-of-all-time list.

One of the proofs that Indian films are getting better every year. Very soon it will be placed next to the Hollywood, ahead of European, Japanese, Korean for sure when it comes to international revenue. Because there's fierce competition between Bollywood, Kollywood, Tollywood, Mollywood and many more. Not only among the filmmakers, but fanbase/followers as well.
It is happening because of the younger generation. While they are experimenting and propelling to the future, the senior filmmakers and artists are wasting their reputation for mindless commercial films which is only moving backwards. It's time for non-Indians to learn about other than Bollywood and I also hate when people call all the Indian movies Bollywood.
While 'Endhiran' making its debut, they said it will ignite the sci- fi era in Indian cinema. Half a decade has passed and of course, some films came, but this is the major time travel movie I have ever seen in the Tamil language. Though, it was a B category movie. Because the cast has no major star values other than in the local market and it was directed by an incoming filmmaker. I think it was well written screenplay, it was not an intelligent, but easily understandable by everyone. I mean even by the older and rural people.
Time travel is not new in Indian films, but very very least explored theme. It did not waste time to explain the rules and mechanism from the basics, I think because of familiarity with Hollywood flicks among Indian audience. But still keeps a very simple story and due to layers in time (not the story), looks a little muddle. Not easy to predict, but feels like missed by a very close to fingertip.
All in his movie, Vishnu has done a wonderful job, but only a couple of films were somewhat widely recognised. Mainly because of the low cost movies and failed to promote, in another way to say, filmfestivel movies. Yet another similar outcome from this one which should have helped him to rise, but did not. He is a best all-rounder in the CCL's Rhino, hope his day will come as an actor well.
"Telling a girl and posting on facebook is the same."
The other actor, Karunakaran was also excellent. He was the comedian and the sidekick before this film, but in here he one of the two leads. Like I always say, the songs are the drawback in Indian films and in this film they did not completely discarded, but reduced the numbers by around 50 per cent. The good thing is, all the songs were with the story, not some unnecessary drag to the outside of the topic.
Fantastic visuals, the standards were pared with any major English movies. But the graphics are what, only the time machine and the rest were story with human characters. The first hour was so fun and romantic, and the remaining hour was a thriller that keeps picking the pace till the final battle. Overall a two hour movie, definitely short and sweet as an Indian film.
I liked everything in the movie, from an attempt to make this experimental movie for the first time to production quality and performances. But, other than the songs, without the romance track in the narration, still feels impossible to survive its own as a perfect sci-fi-thriller. Excluding a few minor flaws from the movie, this is a very good film considering a low-budget Tamil movie.
I have heard (might be rumours) there's a possible for a sequel and this time the guest actor, Arya will be making his presence in a full fledged role. It must happen, because it was a brilliant narrative that can go up to become a trilogy. Especially his star value would make the franchise reach every corner. For those who want to see it, I remind don't anticipate like of Hollywood, British films. For Indian standards, it was a much better than nonsense masala films. Highly recommended, if you have not tasted Kollywood yet, it might be a better one to begin with.
