Is Kevin Hart’s New Netflix Project Ripped Off from AGT? Debunked
Image
Kevin Hart is getting ready to executive-produce a new Netflix comedy competition series, and it may initially sound familiar to America’s Got Talent (AGT). As the Tudum headline suggests, the untitled comedy series is searching for America’s next big comedian, but the comparison doesn’t hold up. While both shows feature contestants competing for a grand prize, Hart’s project is a completely unique take on the genre.

It is focused on the unpredictable world of stand-up comedy. Set to premiere in 2026, the series will dive deep into the real-life journey of aspiring comedians. The show will highlight the highs and lows of their careers in a way that AGT never has.

Unlike AGT, which features a wide variety of talent, Hart’s show will center on the world of stand-up comedy. The show will follow contestants as they face the brutal realities of the comedy world, from “open mics,...

Bryce Dallas Howard's 10 Best Movies & TV Shows Ranked
Image
Bryce Dallas Howard grew up in a Hollywood family, and while that may have helped pave the way for the beginning part of her career, her standout movie and TV roles have proven that she is a capable actor in her own right, Howard surname aside. The eldest of prolific movie and TV director Ron Howard's four children, Bryce Dallas Howard has been acting since she was 8, first appearing in her father's 1989 comedy Fatherhood for a brief cameo. She later had non-speaking roles in her dad's other movies, Apollo 13 and How the Grinch Stole Christmas.

Her time on her father's sets must have inspired a love for acting because, around 2004, Howard began appearing in more than just her dad's productions, making a name for herself in small roles that became increasingly more significant over the years. In the 2020s, Howard has also shown a knack for directing, but...

‘Magic Faraway Tree’ Director Ben Gregor Knows He Has an Amazing Cast (Exclusive First-Look Image)
Image
Before production had begun on the anticipated film adaptation of Enid Blyton‘s The Magic Faraway Tree, director Ben Gregor worried that he’d put one of his stars, Andrew Garfield, off a little bit.

“We wrote a song for the film and we sent it to Andrew early on,” Gregor explains to The Hollywood Reporter. “And I hadn’t worked with him yet and you don’t know… With actors sometimes, you can put them off.”

But Garfield loved it. The gesture ended up being instrumental in the atmosphere that Gregor later cultivated on set — one of true-heartedness, trust, and that crucial Blyton ingredient: magic. “Everybody was putting themselves out there,” Gregor says.

The project has grabbed headlines in recent months for releasing back-to-back smash hit casting announcements: first came Garfield and Claire Foy (The Crown), then came Nicola Coughlan (Bridgerton, Derry Girls) and Jessica Gunning (Baby Reindeer), and...

The Biggest Film Winners of Netflix’s Data Dump: ‘Damsel,’ Jennifer Lopez and Universal
Image
Netflix unveiled the first big data dump of 2024 on Thursday, and the engagement report for everything watched in the first half of the year proved that subscribers really love three things: Millie Bobby Brown, sharks and animated movies.

Some of the data points were unsurprising – we knew Brown’s “Damsel” was a huge hit, and indeed it was the most-watched film for the first half of the year. But others were interesting, like just how heavily Netflix’s streaming partnership with Universal factors into what’s being watched and the relative success of Zack Snyder’s “Rebel Moon” films.

Below, we thumb through the biggest winners on the film side of the data dump.

Why Kevin Hart's Lift Is The Italian Job on Wings
Image
Kevin Hart showcases his range as an actor, proving he's adept in both serious and comedy-focused roles. Lift is a huge hit for Netflix, claiming the number-one spot on the Global Top 10 list since its release. Directed by F. Portraying his range as an actor, Hart has starred in films such as 2021's Fatherhood, where he took on the role of widower Matthew Logelin. Despite still bringing a sense of witty humor to the role, Hart proved that he's just as adept in more serious roles as he is in comedy-focused parts. Yes, President Obama Gave Notes on 'Leave the World Behind,' and No, There's No Conspiracy Theory
Image
Since founding Higher Ground Productions in 2018, former President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama have been hard at work digging their hands into the entertainment business. The company has so far backed films including Paul Weitz’s Fatherhood and George C. Wolfe’s Rustin, but it’s their latest collaboration with Sam Esmail on the director’s apocalyptic thriller, Leave the World Behind, that has people—especially conspiracy theorists—talking. No, the film has nothing to do with the JFK assassination, but with its hidden messages that signal the end of the world as we (or at least the characters) know it, some believe the ex-Commander-in-Chief’s involvement was a sign all on its own. Straightening things out during an interview with Collider’s Steve Weintraub, Esmail set the record straight, explaining exactly how the Obamas shaped the Netflix film.

The Mill trailer: Lil Rel Howery sci-fi horror movie reaches Hulu next month
John Cena, Lil Rel Howery, Meredith Hagner, and Yvonne Orji in Nos pires amis (2021)
After starring in the comedy Vacation Friends (which I enjoyed much more than our reviewer did) and its sequel (didn’t watch that one yet) for the Hulu streaming service, Lil Rel Howery has taken the lead in another Hulu Original – but this time they switched up genres. Their new collaboration is the sci-fi horror movie The Mill, which is set to start streaming on October 9th as part of the service’s “Huluween” event. With that release date just over a week away, we’ve gotten our hands on a trailer for The Mill, and you can check it out in the embed above.

Directed by Sean King O’Grady (We Need to Do Something) from a screenplay by Jeffrey David Thomas (All American: Homecoming), The Mill sees Howery playing the role of a white-collar businessman who mysteriously wakes up in an open-air prison cell containing only an old grist mill.

Hello Mr. President: Barack Obama Takes Meetings At CAA For Higher Ground Projects – The Dish
Image
Exclusive: The Republican contenders for his old job were debating up at the Reagan Library in Simi Valley last night, but today Barack Obama was in town seeking more higher ground.

The 44th President of the United States was on the westside of LA Thursday for a sit-down at CAA with the agents for his and former First Lady Michelle Obama’s Higher Ground production company.

According to a source close to the uber-agency, Obama met with his film, TV, and non-scripted team to discuss projects for Higher Ground. As casual as it can be when the ex-leader of the free world is in the house, the gathering was held in one of CAA’s large conference rooms.

Michelle Obama did not join her husband and business partner today at the meeting. However, Higher Ground president Vinnie Malhotra, plus Joe Paulson, Tonia Davis and other member of the production company...

He even popped up on "Talking Watches" in 2023, since evidently developing a taste for the finer things.

Somehow, the man also found time to make his television drama debut in 2021's "True Story." Arriving on Netflix in November 2021, "True Story" is a limited series in which Hart and Wesley Snipes play brothers, and is loosely based on the former's career as a stand-up comedian. Hart plays a version of himself named Kid, who kicks off a comedy tour in his native Philadelphia. At the show,...
