Avis à la une
If you didn't like the first movie then you shouldn't watch this one either because it's basically the same kind of movie. Just another cops versus bad guys story. A different story but nevertheless it's about the same. I did like the first one and so did I again with the sequel. The chemistry between the English speaking Canadian Colm Feore and the French speaking Canadian Patrick Huard still works. And again like in the first movie I barely didn't understand anything of that Canadian French. And French is my first language as a Belgian. That says enough about how weird it is to us to hear them speak. I was glad there were subtitles because the only language I understood clearly was the English. It's a lighthearted cop comedy in the same genre as Lethal Weapon but instead of a black cop and a white cop you just have a French speaking and a English speaking cop. It worked for Lethal Weapon and it also works for Bon Cop, Bad Cop.
I've just created an account in order to post a few words about this movie. I can't really write reviews but I simply think this movie deserves more popularity.
Canadians had us wait 11 years for part 2 of their "Good Cop, Bad Cop" story. It was worth it but I just wish they did more movies. So many things here as just done better than in American flicks.
The characters aren't flat, they are real, likable with own backstories. It's quite rare for comedies and action flicks. The action scenes also feel real, not fake like another Fast and Furious, not filled with CGI, believable. The acting is great. The main duo just killed it! They delivered laughs, seriousness and even had that chemistry, like true old friends. The story is not cliché. No one tries to clear his name, no revenge, no saving the world. Just two cops doing their job. Not some heroes, not some adrenaline pumped guys. Again, real! But don't get me wrong, it's not a documentary. Plot is interesting and have some twists. The whole movie is over 2 hours and I didn't have that feeling, quite usual for 90 min. US movies, it ended before it started. Every minute was planned well.
But what I found here that I don't find in American movies is some cultural background. Here, in Europe, we don't really know much about Canada. They love their maples, hockey and some of them speak French. That's basically all I knew. Now I even know some Quebec French profanities! And inserting French words and expressions into English (and vice versa) sounds interesting, sort of fresh. It made me read more about French Canadians and Quebec. Good read, I recommend!
So good job, Canadians, please do more!

Not for me though, I had the timing right. I just watched the first movie the other night and a couple of days later had this on the menu. You have the two main characters from the first one in this, but also some bit players. Although I didn't check if the kids from the first one are also playing the adult roles in this one. Now don't think because I make it sound like you have to watch the first one, you have to watch it. For story purposes you don't have to. To get little jokes (like the use of a french word for example) you would have to. And to get the relationship the two guys are having.
Having written all that, the movie holds up to the fun the first one was. But also the drama the other one had. It plays again on that thin line and stays mostly on the correct side of it, never really falling over. Action is good too and the story is suspensful enough. Good sequel then

In A Nutshell: The story was NOT as good as with the first movie and really fizzles at the end BUT the interplay between the Anglophone and Francophone Canadian cops is LOTS OF FUN. If you liked BCBC 1, then it's WORTH THE WATCH. If you have not watched BCBC 1, then correct that immediately before watch episode 2 - it is hilarious!
The first Bon Cop Bad Cop played a lot on the humour of Quebec French meet Ontario English with a theme well known and love by every Canadians of every language, Hockey.
I had a little fear this second instalment was not gonna be as funny as the first one due of this hockey parody theme now gone, and the fact that both actor have aged quite a bit, but i was WRONG. Its as good as the first one and in some parts even surpass it.
Obviously in Quebec we don't have the budget of the American industry, so do not go see it hoping for a ton of special effects and explosions or stuff like that. There is some action but it is before everything else a comedy and in that regard it stand as a very good one and maybe even better than recent American comedies. It remind me a bit of Lethal Weapon with more humour and less action.
Honestly i don't go see much of our own Quebec Productions as i am spoiled by the Hollywood big budget industry, but when i rented the first one i really loved it, i bough the DVD and i watched many time, so i promised myself i was gonna see this one in theatre and i am very happy i did.
