Neve Campell and Skeet Ulrich are best known for co-starring in the horror classic Scream. They also starred in The Craft (1996). The witchy cult classic will soon be available to stream on Max.
The Craft will arrive on Max on January 1st. Released the same year as the original Scream, Campbell takes on another iconic role of Bonnie Harper in the teen supernatural film. And while not as large of a role, Ulrich would once again work with Campbell to play the jock Chris Hooker. Directed by Andrew Fleming and made with a $15 million budget, the film was a box office success on its release, opening at number at the North American box office and grossing $55.6 million total. While The Craft has been to an average critical reception with a 6.4/10 on IMDb, the film is beloved by fans for its dark themes and subversion of typical family-friendly Halloween movie tropes.

Blumhouse is one of the biggest names in horror, and one of their four-year-old movies has found new streaming success. The production company now regularly releases anywhere between four and 12 movies a year, partnering with distributors like Warner Bros., Universal, Lionsgate, and Paramount, as well as streamers like Netflix, Prime Video, and Peacock. Though the stories, casts, and overall quality for Blumhouse movies vary from title to title, the films are generally made for less than $20 million, and they're generally horror or horror-adjacent.
2020 was a complicated year for Hollywood with the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic causing global theatrical shutdowns, but several Blumhouse movies were still able to break through. The company's biggest success story of the year is, of course, Leigh Whannell's The Invisible Man, but Freaky and Fantasy Island were also hits. Other titles went straight to VOD, like You Should Have Left and The Craft: Legacy.

Few cinematic characters have left as big of an impression as Ellen Ripley, Sigourney Weaver’s iconic “Alien” survivor, who led four films in the franchise and left behind some massive shoes to fill for everyone who’s come since. In “Alien: Romulus,” that’s a young cast of franchise newcomers, led by “Priscilla” and “Civil War” star Cailee Spaeny.

With the blockbuster success of her 2024 movies Civil War and Alien: Romulus, Cailee Spaeny has proven herself to be the breakout box office star of the year. Spaenys rise to stardom has been a long time coming. She made her on-screen debut in 2018 with one of the lead roles in Pacific Rim Uprising alongside John Boyega. While it didnt match its predecessors critical or commercial success, the Pacific Rim sequel did put Spaeny on Hollywoods radar and led to starring roles in Devs, Mare of Easttown, and The Craft: Legacy.

The Alien franchise is back on the big screen with Alien: Romulus, which is currently the highest grossing horror movie of the year with $101 million made here in the United States and $331 million scared up worldwide. The film is still going strong at the box office with no at-home release announced at this time, and in fact Romulus just passed another huge milestone.
IMAX has announced today that Alien: Romulus is now IMAX’s highest grossing horror of all time at the global box office, with $40 million in ticket sales for IMAX theaters alone.

Most fans and critics agree that Alvarez has done another horror franchise proud with Romulus, which is currently 82% Fresh over on Rotten Tomatoes.
But how did the film fare at the box office in its opening weekend? Here in the United States, Alien: Romulus debuted in the #1 spot with $41.5 million, giving the film the second highest U.S. opening weekend for a horror movie this year behind A Quiet Place: Day One.
Worldwide, the sequel to Ridley Scott’s original horror classic Alien opened with $108.2 million.
After just a few days, Alien: Romulus is already the second highest grossing horror movie of 2024, A Quiet Place: Day One currently sitting in the top spot with $261 million worldwide.

Parker Brennon’s Hauntology is set to make its international premiere at the 2024 Pigeon Shrine FrightFest, bringing a unique blend of queer horror to the festival’s line-up. Scheduled for a late-night screening on Friday, 23rd August, this anthology film offers a chilling exploration of ghost stories with a distinctly queer perspective, blending supernatural elements with themes of identity and belonging.
Hauntology follows the journey of twelve-year-old Venus, who, after running away from home, is intercepted by their older sister, Jazmin. Instead of taking Venus back home, Jazmin takes them on an eerie road trip around their Ohio hometown, sharing spine-tingling tales at each stop. Each location they visit harbours its own ghost story, all intricately tied to queer experiences. From a trans woman’s desperate spell to become her ideal self, only to unleash a dark spirit, to a troubled couple discovering a love that transcends death, the anthology...

The first film in the Predator franchise in the wake of Disney taking over 20th Century Fox, Prey went direct-to-Hulu back in 2022, but the Alien franchise’s first film under the Disney umbrella is getting a big theatrical release this weekend. But that wasn’t always the case.
As you may recall, Alien: Romulus was originally announced as a Hulu movie, and director Fede Alvarez explains what changed – and when it changed – in a new chat with Variety.
It was back in 2021 that Alien: Romulus was planning a Hulu debut, which Alvarez says was “a reaction to theaters being completely gone” at the time, deep in the heart of the pandemic.
“That decision was not made at the point where theaters were healthy,” Alvarez explains to Variety. “[But] it was always going to be an ambitious movie for [a streaming] platform.”
He continues, “I remember making an announcement to everybody that this movie was going in theaters,...

A brand new video from the YouTube channel FilMonger takes you behind the scenes of Alien: Romulus this week, and it’s packed with twelve minutes of on-set footage and insights.
This behind the scenes featurette focuses heavily on the upcoming film’s practical effects-driven approach, which extends both to the movie’s detailed sets and its horrifying monsters.
Director Fede Alvarez took an all-practical approach to the film wherever he could, shooting Alien: Romulus much the same way Ridley Scott filmed Alien back in 1978. Of course, there are a ton of visual effects enhancements at play here that Scott didn’t have at his disposal back then, but you might be surprised by how practical Romulus truly is.
Star Cailee Spaeny notes in the footage, “These sets really help with the acting, because you’re really just reacting to what’s in front of you. And they’re absolutely...

The marketing for Fede Alvarez’s (Evil Dead, Don’t Breathe) Alien: Romulus is coming fast and furious as we inch closer to the August 16 release, and 20th Century Studios dropped two promotional videos this afternoon that seem to spoil something the film’s other marketing materials have avoided spilling the beans on. Spoilers incoming. You have been warned…
The first of today’s new videos is titled “Introducing Rain,” and it puts the spotlight on Cailee Spaeny’s Ripley-inspired heroine. The other is titled “10 Days,” a reference to the fact that Alien: Romulus will be unleashed in theaters nationwide in, well, ten days.
It’s the latter video that contains the Spoiler we’re here to discuss, as the 30-second video features an Aliens-inspired shot that suggests the film’s ill-fated crew is going to have to deal with a lot more than one fully-grown Xenomorph. Previous trailers...

We’re now just two weeks away from the return of the Alien franchise with Fede Alvarez’s Alien: Romulus, a sequel to the original horror classic that’s set between the events of Alien and Aliens. It’s being unleashed in theaters on August 16.
While you wait, a brand new Japanese trailer has been uploaded by 20th Century Studios this week, and it contains a bunch of footage not previously seen in the various U.S. trailers.
There are some killer new shots of the film’s Xenomorph, while we get a gnarly glimpse at just how damaging to human flesh the monster’s acidic blood can be. On that note, we get a sneak peek at what looks to be one hell of a set-piece featuring the spilled blood of a Xenomorph, the green acidic plasma floating in zero gravity as our human survivors free fall towards it.

Born and raised in a supportive family environment in London, England, there was nothing that could have stopped Galitzine. He attended Dulwich College in London, where he had to balance academics with his interest in both sports and the arts. The less practical they are as actual popcorn buckets, the cooler movie-themed popcorn buckets tend to be. They’re all the rage at the moment, with theater chains including AMC, Regal and Cinemark supplementing their income by selling creative popcorn buckets for big time movies like Barbie and (most famously) Dune. Up next? Alien: Romulus!
Cinemark Theatres has taken to social media to preview their own Alien: Romulus popcorn bucket, which is shaped like a massive Xenomorph head. A flap on top of the elongated Xeno dome opens up to allow you to fill it with fresh popcorn, and it looks like there’s a handle on the underside of the head that allows you to hold the unique vessel as you feast from it.

On the heels of Andy Kelly‘s Perfect Organism: An Alien: Isolation Companion, author Mike Diver has announced a little book of his own involving Alien: Isolation. Only this time, the book won’t stop at Creative Assembly’s hit title.
Announced via Diver’s X account, he’s currently in the process of gathering interviews for Aliens: The Video Games (working title), a book that will serve as “a complete guide to all the official (and some unofficial!) games” inspired by the Alien film series. Obviously, Alien: Isolation will be one title, but the book will focus on games from the 80s all the way to the present.
Further details on Aliens: The Video Games are still to come, but according to Mike, it will be coming out in “a year or so”, so keep an eye out for it.

Following yesterday’s official trailer release, the MPA rating for director Fede Alvarez’s (Evil Dead, Don’t Breathe) Alien: Romulus has arrived. No surprise here, but it’s rated “R.”
Alien: Romulus, arriving in theaters August 16, is specifically rated “R” for…
“Bloody violent content and language.”

Keep your big-budget extravaganzas and intellectual properties! These days, Hollywood actors are breathlessly lining up to join the Benoit Blanc Cinematic Universe. Ever since Rian Johnson singled-handedly revived the big screen whodunnit with 2019's "Knives Out," the mid-budget murder-mystery series has become the hottest destination for rising stars, A-listers, and under-sung veterans of the industry to flex their acting muscles as the various colorful characters that occupy this world. Even the property's shift from the theatrical market to the streaming landscape three years later with Netflix's "Glass Onion" wasn't enough to deter folks from flocking to these movies like they're the next "Dune" sequel.
Following the announcement of Johnson's third "Knives Out Mystery" last month (now officially titled "Wake Up Dead Man"), it's become a daily guessing game trying to figure out who will sign on to match wits with Daniel Craig's sharp-witted Southern sleuth Blanc next.

A brand new image from Fede Alvarez’s (Evil Dead, Don’t Breathe) Alien: Romulus has been shared by Empire Magazine this morning, introducing us to the franchise’s latest hero.
Played by Cailee Spaeny, her name is Rain Carradine, and she’s pictured in the brand new Empire image alongside actor David Jonsson as Andy, “her android foster brother.”
Alvarez explains the dynamic, “When her father was dying, she left Andy to be a kind of caretaker. But Andy is a bit damaged and he’s an older model. So more than a surrogate father, he becomes a younger brother to her. And that was always the heart of the story: this relationship between the two… and how that relationship unfolds once shit hits the fan.”

The Craft theory claims Sarah was the only true witch in the coven. Bonnie and Rochelle had no powers, so they relied on Sarah, who transferred them her magic. Nancy could have drawn power from Manon or been a dark witch, but The Craft: Legacy debunks one of these options.
The Craft followed a covens struggles once their spells had negative repercussions on them, but a theory suggests only one of the covens members was a true witch, and it wasnt Nancy (Fairuza Balk). The 1990s were a great decade for horror with the resurgence of the slasher genre and teen-led movies, among them The Craft. Directed by Andrew Fleming, The Craft was a box office success but didnt do so well with critics, who praised the performances of the main cast and Flemings direction but criticized its writing and too many horror clichs. Still, The Craft has since gained a cult following.

This week, it was announced that the Netflix sequel would be titled Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery. In the first two films, Craig was joined by star-studded ensemble casts, and it's looking like that tradition will continue. A new report from What's On Netflix states that Lindsay Lohan (Freaky Friday), Tom Hardy (Venom), Cailee Spaeny (Civil War), and Josh O'Connor (The Crown) are all currently in talks to join the ensemble cast, though it's worth noting that none have been officially confirmed at this time.

Blumhouse is reportedly rebooting My Bloody Valentine, following their trend of previous horror franchise revivals with Halloween and The Exorcist. No director, writer, or story details have been revealed yet for the reported reboot, which comes 15 years after the last remake. With the studio's recent reboot efforts proving underwhelming, a back-to-basics approach for My Bloody Valentine could correct this course.
Having already brought back Halloween and The Exorcist for modern audiences, Blumhouse may have found their next horror reboot in the form of My Bloody Valentine. The original 1981 Canadian slasher cult classic revolved around a small town being terrorized by a miner for revenge for the deaths of other miners around the February holiday. The movie would later get a 3D remake in 2009 from Drive Angry duo Patrick Lussier and Todd Farmer, which garnered farely better reviews than the original and was a box office hit, grossing over $100 million against its $14 million production budget.

Fede Alvarez’s (Evil Dead, Don’t Breathe) Alien: Romulus is set between the events of Ridley Scott’s Alien and James Cameron’s Aliens, and Alvarez had explained to Total Film earlier this month that the film is something of a tonal fusion of the two classic Alien movies.
Alvarez teases, “The environments, and the pace of it as well – it’s more similar to Alien for quite a bit. And then gradually – you won’t even know – you feel like it’s more Aliens. It’s a natural progression, and it happens effortlessly.”
On that note, Fandango’s Summer Movie Preview brings us a brand new image from Alien: Romulus this morning, and you can certainly feel the Aliens vibes in this particular shot.
Check it out below and catch the franchise’s return in theaters August 16.
Here’s the full official plot synopsis for Alvarez’s Alien: Romulus...

Galitzine excelled in rom-coms like The Idea of You and Cinderella. Galitzine's highest-rated movie on Rotten Tomatoes is Bottoms, a satirical comedy praised by critics. Bottoms showcased Galitzine's range with a comedic role, different from his typical romantic and dramatic roles.
The Idea Of You has become one of Prime Videos most successful releases in 2024, and its a great reminder to watch Nicholas Galitzines 2023 hit with a near-perfect score on Rotten Tomatoes. Nicholas Galitzines acting career began in 2014 with the movie The Beat Beneath My Feet, and got his first major role in 2019 in the Netflix series Chambers, where he played Elliott Lefevre. Nicholas Galitzine, who has played several gay or queer characters both on TV and in films, says he has felt “somewhat guilty” over the possibility that he, as a straight man, is “taking up someone’s space.”
In an interview with GQ, Galitzine, currently starring as a queer character in the Starz drama George & Mary, said, “I identify as a straight man, but I have been a part of some incredible queer stories. I felt a sense of uncertainty sometimes about whether I’m taking up someone’s space, and perhaps guilt. At the same time, I see those characters as not solely their sexuality.”
Galitzine also currently stars opposite Anne Hathaway in the romance film The Idea of You. Last year he starred opposite Taylor Zakhar Perez in the Prime Video gay royalty romance film Red White and Royal Blue, and has portrayed a closeted gay rugby player in...
