The Nymph Tapes

Interesting white-coater from Sam Weston

Using his early pseudonym Sybil Kidd, Anthony Spinelli (Sam Weston) directed this effective send-up of the white-coater genre, a film far better than his earlier SEXUAL THERAPIST. Alpha Blue Archives has unearthed the rarity as part of an Orita De Chadwick tribute DVD.

Isaac Haye's theme from SHAFT plays as our narrator tells of the case of Alicia the nymphomaniac (played by Orita). She is interviewed alongside Ann (Trish Prado) by a blonde doctor played by Nancy Martin. Within this standard white-coater format, flashbacks give us a fictional porn patina and avoid the "reality TV" phoniness of the usual amateur night pseudo- documentary. Remember: this was an era where Socially Redeeming Value was intrinsic to exhibiting explicit sex on screen and not getting raided by the gendarmes.

Alicia's tale involves being humped by her brothers (including Paul Scharf), in a matter-of-fact presentation of the incest theme. The doc wants to run tests on her- enter comics Keith Erickson and Ric Lutze who deliver money shots (facial & on the belly) for Orita, plus Keith using a supplementary dildo as part of the "experiments".

With a sound tape montage we hear about other women's case histories concerning incest, giving the film an almost credible documentary flavor. Finally we cut back to Ann, a plain- looking girl, and hear her story. She had sex with a neighbor while still a kid, and married him later on. Hubby Jon Roy Jones mistreated her - he looks like the unidentified husband from companion film '69" SUNSET STRIP starring Orita.

Ann tells of him bringing his brother Franklin Anthony home for a threesome. Gimmick is we don't see Nancy Martin's face as Dr. Evans here, the way Spinelli shoots the scenes.

Lutze tests Ann wiring her body "with transistors" to determine her sexual coefficient. (Sounds good anyway). Fellow doc Keith gives her a facial as "Light My Fire" plays. For variety's sake, Ric shoots on her belly as Hugh Masakela's once endlessly radio-played "Grazing in the Grass" joins the motley soundtrack score.

Punchline: Alicia and Ann fall in love, after being thrown together in this sort of group- therapy circumstances. They go to live together and Doc Evans can't believe it. She goes crazy, strips (revealing Nancy Martin's terrific body) and has a lesbian sex scene to end the film on a non sequitur note.

I would assume that the original (planned?) title of this movie would be THE NYMPHO TAPES, but for some reason "nymph" is the going title -nonsensical. Spinelli earlier made DIARY OF A NYMPH which has exactly the same mis-reference so perhaps he simply dug that word (despite never having directed a fantasy film about satyrs, nymphs and wood sprites).
