Boomtown

This movie had some potential, but it's very slow with a lot of filler scenes. Many of the actors and actresses seem to be hired locally from the area of filming, due to the bad acting. Some of the music doesn't match the pace of the scenes. I'm surprised Dwight Yoakum agreed to be a part of this production.

I caught this on Hulu. I was pleasantly surprised and am a little surprised by the low ratings. The story is a common one of a young man going to somewhat desperate measures to support his family when he doesn't have a lot of good options and is lured into the oil and gas industry. It was very well acted by the lead and I thought realistic. It will resonate with anyone who has been up against the wall financially and has had to scramble and rely on the charity of strangers to get a leg up.

This movie gives a fairly accurate example into the lifestyle of the modern ND boom. Follows the story of an out of state worker in need of a job.

For me, going in not expecting much, it was worth viewing. Characters lack much needed additional depth and dialogue was noticeably thin.

Check it out if you want to better understand what the recent Wild West boom of ND looks like for the average person.

Alot better than I expected, the main actor is very endearing and the situations are realistic and well acted. Good music.

I used to work in the business side of oil and gas and it really is like this. It's very boom and bust and when the times are good, it's great and when it's bust, it's really bad and you're hurting. Plus it can change on a dime. Then just when you think you're out and moving on, it ticks back up and lures you back.

Although I have not been to Williston, I have heard that it really is like this, kind of an outlaw town due to the industry presence.

Decent acting and emotional. I've read stories that's it's a bit of the wild west up there. In a way, it's like a US version of a migrant worker just trying to take care of his family sending money back.
