Guardians

I am not an action movie superhero person. I loathe Marvel. Tubi suggested this, and I had nothing better to do with my time. I was promised a bear man with a big gun, and it delivered on that and more.

It gives you exactly what you want if you just want to watch a fun movie. The plot was good enough to keep me interested the whole movie. Which is notable, because I am notorious for getting bored 3/4 through most action films.

Almost everyone in this movie, save for the villain is attractive. The fights are well choreographed. The cgi is competent. It's well shot, and in my opinion, well-acted. I was invested in the characters the whole time. The weapons and fighting styles are cool.

If you have some weird parasocial attachment to the marvel franchise and go in wanting marvel, then you'll be disappointed. If not for the numerous comparisons made in other reviews, I wouldn't even compare the 2. Other than the fact these are superhero action films, they're really not at all the same and I don't think there was an intention to imitate Marvel so much as just make a superhero movie.

There was some potential in this tale of four superheroes created by the Russian government during the Cold War; that have to stay hidden until needed; but the movie sadly has very very lazy writing and even poorer editing. The FX are acceptable (the last Avengers was not much better and cost 50 times more); but the characters are pure stock. Forced; unsympathetic and underwritten. Action scenes are not spectacular as they were supposed to be; and villain motivations (or goals) are not that clear.

In brief; perhaps next time with better production and writing they will make a better movie; but just one is just a curiosity.

I can't get past the fact this film has a bear man hybrid with a chain gun. How cool is that?

Guardians has taken a bit of a bollocking from some reviewers. I think some of the comments are fair but others I don't agree with.

Firstly, this is not a bad film. Its reasonably well made with mostly worthwhile special effects and decent action sequences. Some of the fantasy tech employed by the baddies and the super-hero's is pretty cool too and shows imagination.

On the downside it does "wallow" a bit and get stuck in excessive dialogue at times, especially in the middle of the film. There is too much time spent on research "techno-babble" and extraneous back story elements. This tends to rob the film of some of the pace and momentum it sorely needs, as an action flick.

Of course the inevitable comparison is US made action films, especially those from the Marvel universe. I'd say The Guardians is better than some and worse than others. For me, it falls in the "middle" of the line-up of US counterparts, which is not a bad effort, given Russia is not known as a producer of the this kind of action fare. On that basis, I give this flick a seven out of ten.

It's not very good.

I wanted it to be good, I would have settled for quite good, but no.

CGI = awful (circa 1900's SyFy channel, and I'm being generous).

Story = Hm, maybe taken from a computer game released in a country ending in 'stan' and not very popular there either

Watch at your peril.

One good thing about the film is, no, sorry, I got nothing.

I don't know why people are trying to say this movie is good, because it is not. First the good parts, the cinematic, music and special effects are pretty decent. And the bad, how can I put this, the movie has no pace, the way they start the team it's laughable, "wanna join? sure". The stiff face major blonde whatever struggles to show emotions and empathy, but it just makes you laugh at her failing to do so, and the list goes on and on, the acting is really terrible.

OK, we get it, small budget, but that doesn't mean the story,editing and acting has to be so low.
