Who gave the green light for this? My word. How do you stink up such a great story?
You can watch it but for more than half movie looks like the Rocky IV training to the fight. Lot of banal quotes. Musics are not matched totally with the atmosphere of scenes. A low budget movie (i hope) that u can watch but nothing so exciting

If you're looking for an accurate Biblical portrayal of the epic story of David and Goliath, move along. Nothing to see here. This story is a re-write and they do preface the movie with the disclaimer that they took artistic and stylistic license. However, this movie is so NOT the story of David and Goliath. If you change the names of the very poorly acted characters there would be absolutely no resemblance. It removes faith from the story and portrays David as a late twenty something warrior in training instead of a sheep tending, song singing, fresh- faced young teenage boy. The acting, directing and casting, just make this movie atrocious. No redeeming value...not even with the hot girl who makes an appearance for a few moments.

The Greatest Tale of all Time. True. Then there is this typo 'David AND Goliath' so the title of this movie sounds like it's one of those sleazy 80's adult flicks. This biblical tale is better known as 'David versus Goliath'. Anyway I don't want to be persnickety but the movie poster is still the best thing about this movie. Period. I have seen better footage lying on editor's cutting floors than this. Sometimes I do not understand why serious movie makers struggle for money to get an independent movie gem made and other director's can easily deliver crap like this. Hollywood works in mysterious ways. Maybe this isn't a movie but instead it's a really long television ad for retro clothing and shoes. Who knows?
This may as well be The CW's interpretation of the Bible. David fights (and kills) Goliath's shield bearer using bad Krav Maga moves and engages Goliath in a 3-1/2 minute sword-and-fist fight before climaxing with the iconic slingshotted stone, which turns out to be a godawful CG effect that looks like it belongs in Dragonball Z. I could go on for a few more paragraphs, but that should be enough to keep you away from this garbage, unless you're watching it for the same reasons you'd watch a Neil Breen film. I'm an atheist and was still somehow offended by it.

This movie was better than some of the interpretations of David and Goliath I've seen; however, it still was a far cry from the actual biblical story. I wondered if all the producers took from the narrative was the names!
Regardless, the quality of the movie was very good. High resolution, good CG, wonderful scenery, and an okay job on the costume designs. My favorite part was when Goliath came onto the scene. The guy who played him was huge and convincing as Goliath. I like the interpretation of David as a masculine man and not a pubescent boy. One of the problems I've always had with a David portrayal is that he's portrayed as young boy with blonde hair and blue eyes. This David was masculine and manly. I mean, if we're going with the biblical narrative, David took out animals to protect his father's sheep. That's not a thin, skinny pale boy. Plus, David lived in warm climate and was a Jew. Chances are, he's at least tanned with dark hair.
But I digress.
All in all, I watched the movie fully aware there was a lot of creative tampering with the biblical narrative BUT I did like the action scenes.

This film essentially begins with the prophet "Samuel" (John Knox) wandering through the desert in search of a young man who is destined to become the next King of Israel. Needless to say, after passing over all of his brothers he finds "David" (Matt Berberi) tending his father's flock and after a bit of conversation anoints him as the heir apparent to "Saul" (Rodger Halston). So far so good. Unfortunately, the film goes totally off the rails after this as Samuel now takes it upon himself to train David for an extended period of time for combat. Not only that but he also convinces 4 other young men to assist as well. To that end, the actual combat with "Goliath" (Michael Foster) is of a very short duration and--other than possibly the presence of Devin Brooke (as "Michal")--is the only thing of any interest as the rest of the film was exceedingly boring. That being said, this is one of those pictures which I cannot recommend to anybody and I have rated it according.

This is very funny movie I have ever seen :-)...I only have watched first 15 minutes of the movie then I realised that.David and the other characters actually a part of 3rd quality spaghetti western movie. The location is more Texas than middle east and all characters are talking' and acting like cowboys...funny..

I hate it when Bible movies don't follow said source, with few exceptions like The Last Temptation of Christ. However, this is based on one chapter of the Bible-1 Samuel 17, with a few surrounding events. Because of this, and thanks to a disclaimer in the beginning, I let it go and let this interpretation tell itself. The movie is pretty close anyways. I mean, compared to the Orson Welles or Veggie Tales version it's fair. It's no Ben-Hur but it's still enjoyable.

The film does a great job of showing what could have happened in the life of King David. The introduction of Goliath is great, but looks like it was an afterthought. Most of the performances are well done, except the lead. His lines come off as read.
This lacked so many aspects of the story. David, though young, was fearless and brave, not timid as portrayed in the movie. He was not a trained Warrior like his brothers were, he was a shepherd. He did not need to be trained because God was on his side. This lscked the perspective of David and God's relationship. And so many inaccurate details through the whole movie. Sad.
If this were any other movie based on a book or true story it would have to be accurate and depict the story as written, even down to the small details because that's what is expected be the viewers, author and critics. Why, when it comes to the Bible, film makers feel they have to change it to make it seem more interesting? Shame.

This is so bad to there was one point at which I thought it was a comedy! People in the cast appeared to be walking aimlessly around in circles, about five horses walked past the camera on a number of occasions. Where on Earth all these people were walking to is a mystery given that they simply appeared to be circling around some ruins. The plot is basically the biblical story that takes up just a few verses in the Bible. It is however strung out for so long, so amateurishly and with such poor production quality that it becomes almost laughable.
It's good that they disclaimer it in advance that this movie will be taking a creative approach and that it won't be historically accurate,
but in the process they ended up adding in extra scenes that detract from what the Bible says about his later fight against Goliath, about why and how it was basically a miracle in his winning that battle. How so? They have him fighting 2 humans long before then. The Bible has it that he never fought any humans until against Goliath, but rather against animals attacking the sheep he was guarding. And the Bible mentions which specific types of animals those were.
There was no point in watching the rest...
There was no point in watching the rest...
It is quite the shame when they take liberties with Biblical movies -- the movie that the Jehovah's Witnesses made about Josiah was much BETTER than this movie I am watching about David and Goliath!!!

Back in 2018, in my hometown, we still had a DVD rental store called Paradise Video. My Uncle and I went in there and I spotted a rack with 10 movies for $10 sale- movies you could buy and keep.
I took 9 rather than 10 by mistake, but the bigger mistake was taking this one- David V. Goliath: Battle of Faith.
I've noted in other reviews that I don't like movies based on Bible stories adding a bunch of stuff- take my reviews of Jesus Christ Superstar, Exodus Gods and KIngs or my new one of The Young Messiah for examples.
David V. Goliath is the same- it tries to take a 1 chapter story in The Bible and expands it with numerous scenes that The Bible doesn't contain.
I'd give examples, however this movie just came and went for me. I can't for the life of me remember what was wrong with this movie, just that it was wrong. The other reviews here seem to back me up.
In short, the only battle here is the ability to sit through it all without all the inaccuracies bothering you. Keep Deut. 4:2 in mind- we are not supposed to add or take away from The Bible. That's what this movie does.
Reverse Recommendations: See King David with Richard Gere (which has nudity- just a heads up there) or VeggieTales: Dave and the Giant Pickle for better cinematic versions of this story. The Greatest Adventure's version of it is great as well.

This movie goes beyond minor creative, dalliances with historical fact. Depicting David, without once having him appear with his harp. Depicting Samuel to look as if he just came from the barbershop.(Think Nazzarite). Depicting Samuel as a warrior rather than a profit. Completely ignoring the death of his mother at the hands of the lion whom he later killed. Ignoring the part, David played in soothing Saul during his times of difficulty. The disservice this does to anyone who watches this movie to learn about David and Goliath is astonishing. This movie goes beyond minor creative, dalliances with historical fact. For a low budget movie, this works. This is a good movie for families and young boys.
I cannot talk about the good without first talking about the bad: 1. The dialogue is wooden and not fleshed out 2. The characters are not fully realized 3. The main actor who plays David is a bit too much of a blank slate 4. The ending where David makes *that* chose hurts the character and the theme of the story a bit. Not the worst change, but the original is still better.
5. Some of the music was too much. Music should never be used as a crutch, even for bad dialogue.
6. Sometimes the camera moved a little too much, where it would've been better to keep it still.
For the good: 1. The production design is great, you feel like you're in Ancient Israel. The details of the world and the society David lives in are pretty impeccable: stuff like iron being rare, Goliath having scaled armor, it's clear the writers read this story very closely.
2. The fantasy elements are perfect, they add to the mythological feeling of the story, which is often something we want from our very real and true Bible stories. Making Samuel a Moses-level prophet, as well as a teacher in war and a former fighter in the war (kind of like Obi-Wan was for Luke), it all adds to this psychological reality these characters should be exhibiting more often.
3. The fight choreography was surprisingly good. The blood felt and was used very well.
4. There was an actual theme that made sense and was relevant to David.
5. They struck the perfect balance for David, making him both relatable and also well-trained and smart, which is very hard to do with such a well-established character. Some adaptations focus too much on God's power, while others focus too much on the greatness of the characters. This movie balanced that perfectly as well.
Save for clunky dialogue, more Bible movies need to be like this. More Bible movies should feel like actual movies and not like bad sermons disguised as movies. Thank you Wallace Brothers for directing this, it definitely took a lot of work.

I love Biblical movies and I watch many of them, this one is kinda the worst movie Ive ever watched, it's like an LGBT movie not a biblical one! Not sure why half of the movie is naked men training in the desert, the guy who acted as David is the last one I would pick for such a great king, unbelievable, i wish I saw the rating of this movie before I rented it and paid $4.5. Dont waste your money on this thing.
First 13 minutes of the movie are complete fabrication nowhere does biblical account show David talking about the bear and wolves prior to Saul. Nor does it mention him fighting and beating 2 mean that would have killed him in normal circumstances.
They tell you at the start that "creative liberty" was taken but they believe that it "shows David's faith and power" .. . They Arent kidding... This movie is terrible. If you are looking for a biblical account... Heck.. it's even bad as a stand alone
Watch the movie from65 or 67 much more accurate.. without all the nonsense.
King David and sails story is one for the ages.. one for biblical creation and prophecy.. this version shows how creative a non believers can be when trying to over stimulate a movie with a legit history..
Part of the reason I take anything that says "based on a true story with a grain of salt. This is so far from the biblical account is disgusting.. did a better movie. This one sucks. And has terrible actors other than David.
