Exclusive: Steven Silver (13 Reasons Why), Nicola Peltz (Transformers: Age of Extinction), and Spencer Neville (Ozark) are set to star in The Obituary of Tunde Johnson, with production slated to commence this week in Los Angeles. Ali LeRoi is directing the indie drama based on a script written by Nigerian-born USC student Stanley Kalu.

Set in Southern California, the film centers on Tunde Johnson (Silver), a queer, black prep school senior who finds himself in an endless loop of police brutality. Soren O’Connor (Neville) is Johnson’s all-American athlete boyfriend who hides his sexuality from both his conservative father and society by maintaining a relationship with Tunde’s best friend Marley Meyers (Peltz).

Producers are Jason Shuman and Zachary Green, co-creators of the million-dollar screenplay competition called The Launch, which selected Kalu’s script as its first winner. Philanthropists Chuck and Marni Bond are also producing.

While a reboot of writer/director Brian De Palma's classic parody horror feature "Phantom Of The Paradise" (1974) is in studio discussions, Sneak Peek the original film showcasing Oscar nominated tunes by Paul Williams including "Life At Last", with an electrifying performance by rock star 'Beef' (Geritt Graham).

De Palma's film is a horror parody of the music business, adapting public domain concepts, "The Phantom of the Opera", "The Picture of Dorian Gray" and "Faust".

Former Happy Madison production chief Tom McNulty to lead new initiative.

CEO Brian O’Shea announced on Tuesday the hire of producer Tom McNulty to head the company’s move into film development and production.

McNulty (pictured) previously served at MC2 Entertainment, where he has been collaborating with The Exchange on Thomas Mann comedy Beef, currently in pre-production.

His career highlights to date include president of production at Universal-based Global Produce, where he produced The Spectacular Now starring Miles Teller, Shailene Woodley and Brie Larson. The Exchange also handled sales on that title.

McNulty ran Shawn Levy’s 21 Laps Entertainment at 20th Century Fox where he produced Date Night and The Rocker and was a production executive on Night At The Museum.

At Sony Pictures, he served as executive vice-president of production for Adam Sandler’s Happy Madison Productions, overseeing the entire film slate including Anger Management and 50 First Dates.

Film financing and sales company The Exchange is launching a film development and production division, and has hired producer Tom McNulty (The Spectacular Now, Date Night) to head up the endeavor.

McNulty previously served as president of production at Global Produce, a Universal Studios based film production company. His upcoming projects include Universal’s action-adventure The Real McCoy starring Chris Pratt, Stx’s romantic heist film Septillion to One and Dreamworks’ comedy The Escort.
