I Live Here Now Review: 35mm Psychological Thriller Envelops You in A Fractured Reality of Pain and Perception [Fantasia 2025]
Image
Writer/director Julie Pacino makes her feature film debut with the lush & surreal psychological thriller I Live Here Now. Shot on a mix of 35mm and 16mm film, this journey through the mind of an aspiring actress is a nightmare odyssey of scarred memories, bad boyfriends, and the cruel standards of the film industry. From a story perspective it’s maybe not the most groundbreaking examination of trauma but it is an undeniable visual feast from start to finish, with a stunning colour palette and a cast of kooky characters.

I Live Here Now stars Lucy Fry (Bright) as Rose, an actress that’s being pushed to the brink of...

The Buccaneers Season 2 Review: All Dressed Up With Nowhere to Go
Image
The Buccaneers first arrived on our screens as a vibrant collision of worlds: new-money American ambition crashing against the shores of London’s ossified 1870s aristocracy. It positioned itself within the popular streaming trend of the historically-adjacent drama, promising a story of high-spirited heiresses determined to live on their own terms.

The first season culminated not in a storybook wedding, but in a calculated sacrifice. Nan St. George (Kristine Froseth) said “I do” to the Duke of Tintagel, a man she did not love, in a desperate, last-minute gambit to shield her sister Jinny from a dangerously abusive husband.

Season 2 picks up in the chilling silence after the vows. The champagne has gone flat, and the celebration gives way to the stark reality of the choices made. What was framed as a triumphant act of sisterly solidarity immediately reveals its cost. The season opens not with romantic bliss, but with the heavy mantle of consequence.

Sam Worthington’s Netflix Thriller With A Jaw-Dropping Plot Twist Left Everyone Talking About
Image
Sam Worthington’s Netflix Thriller Has A Plot Twist That’s Blowing Viewers’ Minds(Photo Credit –Netflix)

Netflix has been dropping a lot of thrillers lately, but some gems get buried beneath the constant wave of new releases. One film in particular slipped past many until viewers stumbled on it and couldn’t stop talking about it. It’s called Fractured, and those who’ve seen it claim it left their heads spinning.

Fracture Plot: A Family Trip Turns Into a Nightmare

According to Unilad, the story kicks off with a family trip that takes a dark turn. Sam Worthington plays a father driving with his wife and daughter. When they stop at a gas station, an accident leads to their daughter injuring her arm, and they rush her to the nearest hospital.

Things seem normal at first until the daughter is taken for surgery, and both she and her mother vanish without a trace.

Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon Review – Survival Through Story
Image
Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon casts players into a fractured Arthurian world where the Wyrdness warps reality and the Red Death cripples once-proud kingdoms. This first-person, open-world RPG wears its inspirations—Oblivion’s freedom, Kingdom Come: Deliverance’s grit—on its sleeve, yet it forges its own identity by keeping its hero perpetually exposed. Vulnerability isn’t a phase; it’s a constant state. Every rusted blade or faded scroll could mean survival…or ruin.

At its heart, the game fuses systems and story: exploration isn’t map-skimming, but a trial of resolve as players balance the lure of hidden shrines against lurking threats. Combat—light and heavy spell casts, measured parries, stamina-based dodges—echoes classic designs but forces strategy when healing resources are scarce. Character growth unfolds through two intertwined layers: core attributes dictate broad playstyles, while deep skill trees unlock precise tactical options.

Dialogue choices and...

The Woman in the Yard Review: Shadows of Loss and Isolation
Image
In a forlorn farmhouse tucked away in rural Georgia, the film unfolds like a somber elegy—a narrative where psychological unease meets spectral intrusion. The image of a solitary, shrouded figure in the yard serves as a quiet incantation, summoning reflections on grief and the inescapable specter of solitude. The farmhouse, marred by neglect and stripped of modern conveniences, becomes a stage where every shadow and empty corridor whispers the remnants of a once vibrant life.

The story centers on Ramona, a bereft widow whose existence has been unmoored by loss. With her household in disarray and her own inner turmoil palpable, she struggles amid the silence that only deepens with the mysterious visitor’s subtle approach. Her teenage son and young daughter, each bearing their own silent burdens, complete a family portrait marked by isolation and fractured reality.

The film opts for a dialogue between visceral dread and contemplative introspection,...

The Summer Book Review: Nature’s Role in Healing
Image
Charlie McDowell turned Tove Jansson’s beloved book, The Summer Book, into a movie. The Summer Book is full of the subtleties of youth and the bittersweet essence of memory. Jansson, best known for her Moomin stories, captures the ephemeral beauty of life and loss in 22 short stories set on a remote island and heavily laden with the weight of Sophia’s recent death.

Making such complex themes work on the big screen is very hard for McDowell. Children’s books often have an emotional depth that is hard to capture in movies. The narrative contrasts innocence and mortality, echoing how difficult it is for people to deal with grief today.

The characters’ emotional states are reflected in nature as they become living things. Both solace and decay are present in the Gulf of Finland. McDowell wants to capture Jansson’s spirit, but the film’s slow pacing runs the risk of veering off course.

Law & Order: Svu Season 26 Midseason Report Card: Some Powerful Episodes, But Still Waiting For The Promised Return To Basics
Image
I hate to say this, but Law & Order: Svu is falling far short this season.

This has been my favorite show for decades. It’s the show that inspired me to write my own stories for and about survivors.

But this season, something is missing from Law & Order: Svu despite the fuller cast and some episodes that are worth a second look.

(NBC?Ralph Bavaro)

Contrary to showrunner David Graziano’s promise, Law & Order: Svu has not gone back to basics, and that’s what’s most disappointing about it.

If he hadn’t made that promise, maybe I’d be more positive about this season. The stories aren’t bad, for the most part, and the new character is enjoyable — when she’s actually featured.

Broken Bird Review: A Shattering Descent into Damaged Memory
Image
Director Joanne Mitchell’s debut film Broken Bird tells the haunting story of Sybil Chamberlain, a troubled taxidermist and mortician played memorably by Rebecca Calder. Set for release in 2024, the psychological horror follows Sybil as she helps care for the deceased at a small funeral home, struggling with past trauma and an active inner world that increasingly threatens to overtake her grip on reality.

Sybil spends her days surrounded by the dead, finding solace in rituals of preservation but also retreating into rich fantasies. Still grieving the tragic car accident that killed her family years ago, she struggles to connect in the living world.

A chance meeting with a museum worker, Mark, awakens desires and daydreams, though Sybil’s fragile mental state begins slipping through the cracks.

In richly Gothic style, Broken Bird elicits chills in equal measure to empathy. Director Mitchell crafts a delicately unsettling atmosphere through Sybil’s eyes,...

Christopher Meloni Names Favorite Law & Order: Svu Scene With Mariska Hargitay

Law & Order: Special Victims Unit has been a television staple for over two decades. Christopher Meloni, who played Detective Elliot Stabler for 12 seasons, recently revealed his favorite scene from the police procedural crime drama.

"My favorite Law & Order: Special Victims Unit scene featuring myself and Mariska Hargitay was when Lou Diamond Phillips had a gun to my head, and Stabler told Benson to take the shot [in Season 7, Episode 19, titled 'Fault']," Meloni told US Magazine. "We were bound to each other in that moment as people and characters. And I think Mariska was eight months pregnant at the time, so it's a moment I find particularly special."

Law & Order: Special Victims Unit Season 26 Review – Examining the Evolution
Image
For over two decades now, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit has shone a light on harrowing crimes and brought justice for survivors. Through it all, one woman’s steady guidance has anchored the show: Captain Olivia Benson. Played with nuanced empathy by Mariska Hargitay, Benson started as a detective and worked her way up, solving cases while navigating personal struggles we’ve watched alongside her.

Now, as Season 26 begins, Benson leads a new generation of investigators. But how does this latest batch of episodes hold up? What issues are explored, and how successfully? Let’s take a look behind the scenes of this historic series to find out where it’s going.

The season premiere introduces a disturbing crime on a college campus. Meanwhile, newest special agent Kate Silva joins the squad, determined to prove herself. We also reconnect with beloved veterans like Sonny Carisi, now an Assistant District Attorney.

Olivia Benson's Return Saves a Middling Law & Order Svu Premiere
Image
The following contains massive spoilers for Law & Order: Special Victims Unit Season 26, Episode 1, "Fractured," which aired Thursday, Oct. 3 on NBC. It also contains discussion of violence, including sexual assault.

Olivia Benson has been Law & Order: Svu's central character since Season 13 -- which feels like a lifetime ago. Fans of the NBC show have watched Olivia move from Detective to Sergeant to Lieutenant and finally to Captain, and the character has become an icon to many viewers. She's even become a part of American pop culture history, with the Smithsonian Institution accepting some of Mariska Hargitay's wardrobe to put on exhibit. All that is to say is that Benson is the biggest reason to watch Svu, and that remains true in the Season 26 premiere.

Season 26, Episode 1, "Fractured" focuses on an attack targeting a group of law students. It also introduces yet another new detective into the Special Victims Unit.

Law & Order: Svu Season 26 Already Sets Up Benson's Team Losing A Member
Image
Warning! Spoilers ahead for Law & Order: Svu season 26 premiere.Olivia Benson's new team has just been introduced in Law & Order: Svu season 26, but the premiere already sets up one member to leave. It has been years since Benson became the captain of the Manhattan office's Special Victims' Unit, but this is the first time that she gets an expanded roster of subordinates that could, hopefully, make their job easier. Not that their efficacy as a team dipped when they were undermanned, but it's better overall for Benson and Law & Order: Svu season 26's storytelling to have a solid ensemble around Mariska Hargitay's TV hero.

As the longest-running scripted series on the air, Law & Order: Svu's ensemble has seen a lot of changes in over two decades. Out of all the characters who were introduced in its debut year, only two remain Benson and Ice-t's Fin Tutuola.

Image
After working together on the 2021 version of Wrong Turn, director Mike P. Nelson and screenwriter Alan B. McElroy are re-teaming for the Brazil-set creature feature Titan – and Deadline reports that Kiana Madeira of the Fear Street trilogy and Jessica Rothe of the Happy Death Day movies are set to star in the film!

The story Titan is set against the backdrop of Brazil’s Curuçá River in the present day. When a team of young doctors embark on a local humanitarian mission through the Amazon rainforest, it soon becomes clear that not everyone – or everything – is happy to see them. Their arrival draws the attention of an ancient predator, the “Boiúna”. This ancient killer, dominant on land and water, clashes to reclaim the jungle. The ensuing fight for survival blurs the roles of hunter, prey, and hero.

The film is coming our way from the Resident Evil franchise makers at Constantin Film and Jb Pictures.

‘Elevator Game’ Review (Shudder)
Image
Stars: Megan Best, Gino Anania, Verity Marks, Alec Carlos, Nazariy Demkowicz, Madison MacIsaac, Liam Stewart-Kanigan | Written by Travis Seppala | Directed by Rebekah McKendry

Elevator Game is the new film by Rebekah McKendry, a director who caught my attention with All the Creatures Were Stirring and impressed me with Glorious. On the other hand, she also has a writing credit on the dismal Bring It On: Cheer or Die. So I was a little apprehensive when she did another teen-themed film that not only shared a lot of that film’s cast but was based on an urban legend that’s about ten years past its expiration date.

However, it was an enjoyably creepy legend. I even got talked into playing it walking back to my hotel after several films and several beers at Sfff one year. Of course, nothing happened, but it was unnerving when the doors opened and I...

George Romero's Twilight Of The Dead Will Be Directed By Session 9's Brad Anderson
Image
George A. Romero, horror legend and father of the modern zombie movie, passed away in 2017. At the time of his death, he was developing the next installment in his "Dead" series: a film called "Twilight of the Dead," for which he had written a treatment with journalist and film critic Paolo Zelati. In 2021, we learned that "Twilight of the Dead" was in active development, with Romero's widow, Suzanne Romero, meeting with filmmakers to find the right director for what is being billed as George Romero's "final zombie movie."

Now, the filmmaker who will take on that daunting duty has been found. Per The Hollywood Reporter, Brad Anderson will direct the movie from a script co-written by Zelati, Joe Knetter, and Robert Lucas. Anderson's previous directing credits are primarily horror movies and psychological thrillers, with his best-known work being a combination of the two genres: "Session 9," a...

Twilight of the Dead: Brad Anderson to direct George A. Romero zombie project
George A. Romero at an event for Le Territoire des morts (2005)
Back in 2021, it was revealed that the legendary George A. Romero (who passed away in 2017) had left behind a treatment for the “seventh and final installment” in his Dead franchise – following Night of the Living Dead, Dawn of the Dead, Day of the Dead, Land of the Dead, Diary of the Dead, and Survival of the Dead. The story Romero had come up with used a title than many fans expected him to use for his follow-up to Day, Twilight of the Dead, and the team of Joe Knetter, Robert Lucas, and Paolo Zelati, who also worked on the treatment with Romero, were working on fleshing it out into a screenplay. Last month, we heard that Twilight of the Dead had secured funding from Roundtable Entertainment. And now we know who’s going to direct the film: Session 9 director Brad Anderson!

Anderson provided the following statement: “George Romero’s...

Queen Charlotte Cast: Meet the New Characters from Netflix’s Bridgerton Spinoff
Image
Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story is a Bridgerton spinoff series that shows us how life was in the Ton during the early days of Queen Charlotte and King George’s marriage. We get to see how they meet and fall in love, how her reign leads to social change in the Ton, and how she became the strong and influential Queen that we see in Bridgerton’s first two seasons. Queen Charlotte also features an arc set in the “present day” Regency era of the original series that focuses on Charlotte, Lady Danbury, and Violet Bridgerton’s friendship.

Between both eras, Queen Charlotte has a massive cast full of new and familiar faces. If you want to be as up to date on the hot gossip of the ton as Lady Whistledown,...

Diablo 4’s Map Is So Much Bigger Than You Think
Image
The map for Diablo 4 is much larger than anyone realized. With Blizzard having just closed the two weekends of beta for Diablo 4, players have had their first look at the world for the new game. Many hardcore players completely cleared the map, completing all dungeons, venturing into cellars and caverns, maxing out their character, and taking down the world boss. With the wealth of content on offer, players feel hopeful that the full game will have plenty for both newcomers and series veterans to explore.

The area featured in Diablo 4’s beta map is known as The Fractured Peaks, a mountainous, glacial area which emphasizes frost-bitten enemies and harsh conditions. Importantly, The Fractured Peaks also showcase how Diablo 4 uses increased verticality in its map design to add variety to the exploration and keep players hunting for hidden bonuses. The mobs featured so far have surpassed the glorified cannon fodder of...

When a nurse does arrive she vanishes as soon as he looks away. And then the psycho guy returns, even ripping open the roof of the elevator trying to get at Sam. After escaping once again he has flashbacks to the accident that put him in the hospital.

That all takes place...
