Carte Blanche

"Carte Blanche" is a true story that happened in my native town, Lublin, and the plot of the film is also set in Lublin. It is about a history teacher, Kacper (Andrzej Chyra), who learns that he is losing his eyesight. In order to keep his job and get his class to the final exams, he decides to hide his problems from those around him. The story keeps the viewer in suspense already from the point of view of pure events, because how can you hide such a basic fact as the loss of eyesight? But I think that "Carte Blanche" is even more interesting from its psychological side. We realize that people in a situation like Kacper's may be confronted with more disasters than just loss of their health. Sometimes it can also mean the loss of property, sources of income, a way of life, and finally dignity. Kacper acted to some extent chaotically and irrationally because he was confronted with the disaster that required a completely new philosophy of life. I think that the acting of Andrzej Chyra was great, and he made the main character quite credible. The film also offered some glimpses of how the world looks from the point of view of someone who is losing his eyesight. "Carte Blanche" also has two interesting subplots about Kacper's relationship with fellow teacher Ewa (Urszula Grabowska) and the troubled pupil Klara (Eliza Rycembel). And the participation of Arkadiusz Jakubik, who is playing Kacper's best friend Wiktor, always adds more flavor to any movie. So I was gripped by "Carte Blanche", and acquired a bit more insight into the problems that people with disabilities are facing.
