Avis à la une
I was entertained by this movie. However, Tessa is kind of a terrible person in this movie. She has a great boyfriend who loves and cares for her, but she cheats on him because a British dude touches her hand and takes her swimming? It's hard to root for their love when the whole time I'm stuck on how she broke Noah's heart and never got the comeuppance she deserved
How many times has this film been done before? CW, CBS, Lifetime and all others cable networks as well have done this engilsh accent male role to give the lead guy some edge, as if engilsh accents makes a guy more attractive (ridiculous) and a simple American college girl fallen for the guy and finding out he's the type that goes on shooter sprees on college campuses. Lame, lame and more lame. This films only endorse white college student stupidity nothing more.
First things first, I clearly do not belong to the intended audience which is probably narrowed to female and romantic teens, between 11 and 15 years old. Possibly older, with a touch of nostalgia. Tessa, an ingenuous teen, leaves home, mum and high school in order to integrate university, her roommate inviting her to join an idle and carefree group. She meets there Hardin, a rebel without a cause (Nicholas Ray, 1956) but with a keen interest in literature, like herself. The continuation is relatively predictable and indubitably goofy. My own rating: 2/3 out of 10. My rating while trying to belong to the intended audience, with a generous empathy boosted to the extreme: 4/5 out of 10.
My wife and I watched this at home on BluRay, while it contains nothing particularly novel it is a mostly well written and well acted story.
A few years ago this website, IMDb, was pretty useful. Not so much now that "reviewers" are allowed to write one-sentence non-reviews and give a movie a "1" or a "10" rating for no good reasons. This movie is neither of those two extremes, and if you ignore the highest and lowest votes, the vast middle set of votes show it to be about a "6" which is appropriate when you compare it to other movies of similar themes.
Already done many times, a good student goes to college only to be exposed to lots of things that surprise her, and in the process meets a boy that by all reason she should stay away from but his magnetic personality draws her in. When it is all done she sees the world in a different way, this is her "after" the experiences.
Josephine Langford, a young and pretty Australian actress, is very good in the role. We watch, we know we have seen it all before, but it is still interesting to see where it goes. Not a superb movie but not trash either, a decent watch for those who enjoy an interesting college romance story.

Two people meet in college, fall in love very fast and then for the rest of the movie you watch them making out. The "plot twist" isn't even a twist. The book(s) are incredibly gripping, I don't understand why they had to tone the plot down this much. The movie should have been 18+, it feels like it's 12-.

- AnecdotesJosephine Langford admitted in an interview that she read the first few chapters of After on Wattpad several years before being cast as Tessa.
- GaffesDuring Tessa's debate with Hardin about "Pride and Prejudice", one of Hardin's many tattoos shown is one in Hebrew on his right upper arm. The letters of these two words are written backwards on his arm (left to right), thus the words don't make any sense that way. They're supposed to be written from right to left, and they mean: "We are all stupid".
