Little Muppet Monsters is a neat idea. Airing as part of a hour-long block alongside Muppet Babies, this series sadly did not last too long, as only three episode were completed for air.
In this series, three young monsters, Tug, Molly, and Boo, host the show from the basement of an apartment building after Scooter puts them there. They make a machine out of some old junk, but when lightning strikes it, the machine acts like a broadcast station airing only in the building, where the other Muppets live. This leads to them starting their own show.
Basically, the series was a sort of variety program, as other than the Muppet Monsters' antics, the show also had cartoon shorts and other regular segments, like an animated Pigs In Space cartoon, Muppet Sports Shorts, where Animal tries out different sports in the vein of those Goofy sports shorts from the old days, among others. The Muppet performers reprise their characters in muppet form, but voice actors fill in for the animated segments (while Jim Henson performs Kermit in muppet form, Frank Welker performs him in the cartoon shorts).
Sadly, this show only had three of its thirteen initial episodes aired. As I have said, the three aired episodes were the only ones completed, as Marvel Productions, who made the animated segments, couldn't get the cartoons done in time, as series writer and Muppet performer Kathy Mullen, as well as the fact that she was called in to help with Labyrinth. As a result, CBS decided to put a second episode of Muppet Babies as a temporary plan until the other episodes are done, but after seeing the back-to-back episodes do well in ratings, CBS decided not to air the remaining episodes, and thus, Little Muppet Monsters was cancelled. It is sad, as the series had some potential.
