Flashes of life

Actually i felt a bit bored, that i discoverd i'd love to watch a film based on a novel or long senario more than short stories. But I liked the idea of giving just a brief, or capturing a situation, hard one, from someone's life that shows the suffering, struggles and hardness of the human beings lifes. It's okay.

I'm not a film student. Maybe that's why this is a waste of time.

Generally, I enjoy movies of this type. It seems there is usually something revelatory, insperational, heartbreaking or satisfying. This has NONE OF THAT. I feel like I just sat next to a drunk that rambles incessantly. The stories may, MAY have a somewhat interesting premise, but they go nowhere. I don't even believe the people in the stories think that they are worth telling. After the second vignette, I quit looking for substance in the storytelling and started looking for camera angles, lighting, lens choices or anything. As I am not a film student apart from the roughly 5000 movies I've seen,I kicked rocks.

Save your time

Nothing to mention that would be worth it. Perhaps if the segments were longer they might have been able to convey something of purpose.

What's the story?

Really impossible to tie the story from the stories told. Flat, grey, from top to toe.

Maybe 6-1/2 Stars Really

I don't think this movie is for everyone. I like short stories and short stories about reality so it worked for me. Some movies are not meant to be fun or "enjoyed" in a way we may be accustomed to. Some are about reflection. This was just short snippets of events in the lives of various people. I found it interesting and worth the watch. You aren't going to get a full story. You are going to have to make your own inferences and decide what that means to you.

Different but entertaining in its own way.

I really admire this film. Well put together. It really worked for me. The interludes are fascinating. I was admittedly mildly distracted by the big names in the cast, but the quality of the acting made a huge difference - done by lesser actors it could've been rubbish. I've seen their contributions referred to as cameos, but to put it that way is to deliberately ignore the short-story structure of the film. The characters are enjoyable. Very individual and very real. The first story was perhaps the least tangible, which made it difficult for me to get past, and in that instance, I felt I needed more, but the others worked really nicely. Although the film works as a cumulative piece, especially if you can pause and have a bit of a think, for reach and accessibility I'd like to see it broken up into the seven parts and put on YouTube. I doubt whether anybody involved had realistic notions of garnering a high score on a review site or making a financial killing, but it is so good that someone is bringing what literature can do, to film. It is a film that makes me want to read the book, some other works by Robert Boswell, or watch some of James Franco's other recent attempts at literary conversion.

Underused stars

This film is a number of shorts that examines different aspects of the characters' lives.

I guess I never really cared for a film consisting of unconnected short stories. There are some shorts that are good, namely the first two. The first short has a plot that is bound to connect with the viewers. The third and fourth shorts don't really connect with me, and the remainder are just rather plain. There are loads of stars, but they seem underused. After watching the film, I don't think I really got anything out of it.

For Arthouse and Natalie Portman fans only.

I don't really like the movie but it is Art House. I don't get them all but it's well made.. Natalie's Acting coulda been better on this one, but she's made at least 3 movies of short stories now. Outside of New Your and Paris. But wow. This claims to be a Comedy. Sorry nothing funny about this ultra depressing film. No endings to any of them really. Last one had the closest to an ending but what happened to Kelsey Ford and seems like her last movie too. Shoulda been warned this wasn't a comedy. Listed here and BD dot com. It's not a comedy hands down. The only blu ray that works in the USA is the Italian one.. Plays on my 4K player from Sony. Unlikely I'll watch it again.. Like the Pillow Book . I'll just keep it because of Natalie and the fact I got it (pricey) from Italy Amazon. It's not a spoiler to say this isn't a comedy....

Fascinating.

Seven unconnected stories that offer a fascinating look at human nature.

Interesting stories, interesting concept

Each story isn't exactly what you're expecting in the nicest way.
