Finally released after many years on the shelves (the film was shot in 2019 and was supposed to be released for the 2021 Chinese New Year), “Fox Hunt” is finally out in the world. Without exactly being a disaster, the movie is a near-total misfire – which might explain why it spent so long in a producer’s dark basement. It should have stayed there.
The story – as much as one can make sense of it – is inspired by real-life events: years after 17.4 billion yuan (about 2.5 billion dollars) in life-saving funds were stolen by scammers, the Chinese financial crimes unit known as the “Fox Hunt” team is still hard on their heels.
