Rourkela (Odisha), May 19 (Ians) Delhi Hockey and Hockey Chandigarh registered wins in their respective games on Day 2 of the 13th Hockey India Sub-Junior Men’s National Hockey Championship 2023 at the Birsa Munda Hockey Stadium here on Friday.

In the first match of the day, Delhi Hockey defeated Assam Hockey 5-2 courtesy of Afridi, who scored four goals. Also, Aryan (58′) netted a goal to contribute to Delhi Hockey’s win. For Assam Hockey, Ritik Patir (23′) and Rohit Yadav (40′) scored a goal each.

The second game of the day witnessed Hockey Chandigarh register a comprehensive 19-0 win against Hockey Rajasthan. Gurpreet Singh scored nine goals, while Prabhjot Singh Saini netted a hat-trick. Also, Pankaj Sharma and Gurjeet Singh scored a brace each, while Sukhpreet Singh (5′), Sukhmanpreet Singh (13′), and Suraj Kumar Sah (56′) were also on the scoresheet.

Kochi, March 3 (Ians) Defending Champions Kolkata Thunderbolts were stunned by Bengaluru Torpedoes with a score line of 15-10, 10-15, 15-13, 15-10 in the first semi-final of the second season of the Prime Volleyball League (Pvl) at the Regional Sports Centre, here on Friday.

Bengaluru went big right from the word go but handed over a couple of early freebies to the defending champions. On one hand skipper Ashwal Rai continued his sensational form for the Thunderbolts with his superb performance, Ibin Jose started making an impact for the Torpedoes.

The neck-and-neck battle saw the Torpedoes move an inch ahead with Tsvetelin Tsvetanov and skipper Pankaj Sharma’s attacks. Janshad kept setting up Ashwal to keep the Thunderbolts closer to the opposition. But Pankaj’s dominant show from the service line troubled Kolkata’s defence and Bengaluru took control.

Rahul put a block on Pankaj and made a thunderous super serve to make his presence felt.

Going into the semi-finals, Ahmedabad Defenders have looked dangerous with their attacking prowess. They won 5 out of their 6 matches and are on top of the table with 11 points with one game to go. Kolkata Thunderbolts, the defending champions from the inaugural season, have also the same number of wins but are in the second position on the table with 10 points with one game to play. On the other hand, Calicut Heroes are in third, while the Bengaluru Torpedoes are in fourth with 8 points.

The match to be held at the Regional Sports Centre in Kochi on Tuesday, is poised to be an exciting affair as the fifth-placed Bengaluru side who are currently at 6 points from as many games, need to win preferably 5-0 to get to nine points and secure their spot in the play-off stage.

Hyderabad, Feb 21 (Ians) Hyderabad Black Hawks came from behind to beat the Bengaluru Torpedoes 15-13, 14-15, 9-15, 15-10, 15-12 in the second season of the Prime Volleyball League at the Gachibowli Indoor Stadium, here on Tuesday.

With Trent O’Dea leading defence, Hyderabad began strongly. Bengaluru, Feb 20 (Ians) Bengaluru Torpedoes, on the back of a hat trick of wins in the ongoing second season of the Prime Volleyball League, take on Hyderabad Blackhawks at the latter’s backyard in their penultimate match of the league stage at the Gachibowli Indoor Stadium, here on Tuesday.

The match assumes importance as both the sides have six points from five matches with Torpedoes placed at fourth, a shade ahead of Blackhawks who are fifth based on set difference.

The Bengaluru side who have three wins and two losses from their previous games, look to continue their winning momentum.
