Close Friends Director Hansal Mehta and Editor Apurva Asrani Come Together For Aligarh
The upcoming film ‘Aligarh’ starring actor Manoj Bajpayee is a milestone film for National award-winning director Hansal Mehta. With ‘Aligarh’ he will be taking his successful collaboration with close friend Apurva Asrani who has been much more than his film editor for nearly 15 years. Apurva will be making made his debut as a full-fledged screenwriter with this film in addition to editing the film. Apurva had shared the award for screenplay in Shahid with Mehta and Sameer Gautam Singh.

On many occasions, Apurva has been a guiding force for the talented director often shaping and reshaping scripts for him in the past. The nominations for the 20th annual Screen Awards was announced yesterday and not only that we learned who would be the Mc of the grand event – none other the King Khan! Yes, Shah Rukh Khan will play host to the star studded event. Film Preview: Shahid
After witnessing critical acclaim in several film festivals including Toronto, Dubai and Mumbai and winning accolades, Utv Spotboy proudly presents Shahid. The film directed by Hansal Mehta is scheduled to release on October 18, 2013.

Synopsis: Shahid is based on a true story of a slain human rights activist and lawyer Shahid Azmi, who was was killed in 2010 by unidentified assailants in his office. From attempting to become a terrorist, to being wrongly imprisoned under a draconian anti-terrorism law, to becoming a champion of human rights (particularly of the Muslim minorities in India), Shahid traces the inspiring personal journey of a boy who became an unlikely messiah for human rights, while following the rise of communal violence in India.

Shahid (2012)
Hansal Mehta’s latest film Shahid, based on the life of slain human rights activist and lawyer Shahid Azmi, premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival. Hansal, who has made films like Dil Pe Mat Le Yaar!! (2000), Chhal (2002), Dus Kahaniyaan (2007) and Woodstock Villa (2008) before, speaks about his career trajectory, his inspiration to make Shahid, and his tough journey with the film:

What is Shahid about?

Shahid is based on the remarkable journey of human rights lawyer / activist Shahid Azmi. It is a very personal account of an inspiring life tragically cut short. As Cameron Bailey of Tiff describes very beautifully on the Tiff website “it marries elements of political thriller, personal biography and romantic tragedy while being a courtroom drama at its core.”
