Founded in 2008, The Dress Up Gang is comprised of Robb Boardman, DeMorge Brown, Kevin Camia, Donny Divanian, Christian Duguay, Kirk Fox, Cory Loykasek, Frankie Quinones and Brent Weinbach.

The pic written by the group’s Loykasek, Boardman and Divanian is a comedy adventure about our connection to houseplants, nature, and each other. Blurb: Cory spends his days isolated and working from home until he becomes entangled with a mysterious figure known only as “the Plantman,” a vigilante who breaks into people’s homes to rescue plants that aren’t being watered. Cory is suddenly thrust outdoors, into an underground world of plant-lovers, secret greenhouses, and rogue hardware store employees who will stop at nothing to save the dying plants of the city.

Fresh off her win at last month’s Academy Awards, Michelle Yeoh will return to the “Star Trek” universe as Emperor Philippa Georgiou in the special Paramount+ movie event “Star Trek: Section 31.” The “Everything Everywhere All at Once” star played the character in the first season of “Star Trek: Discovery.” In the upcoming film, She will join a secret Starfleet division tasked with protecting the United Federation of Planets. This new assignment will force Georgiou to face the sins of her past. The film begins production later this year.

Max has released the first official trailer for Fired on Mars, a workplace comedy series which tells the story of Jeff Cooper, a man who finds himself adrift after taking a one-way trip to the Red Planet only to have his bosses unceremoniously eliminate his role.

Luke Wilson stars as Jeff Cooper in Fired on Mars, leading a cast which includes Leslie David Baker, Cory Loykasek, Stephen Root, and Cedric Yarbrough. LCD Soundsystem has announced an imminent streaming special, “The LCD Soundsystem Holiday Special,” that will open with a ’90s-style-sitcom spoof, featuring actors portraying members of the band and their team, followed by a concert special, presumably featuring the real group. Produced by Amazon Music, it airs both on Prime Video and on Amazon Music’s Twitch channel Dec. 22 at 9 p.m. Et/6 Pt.

Musicians starring in their own arch/retro Christmas sitcoms is not a completely fresh wrinkle — see “The Kacey Musgraves Christmas Show,” which premiered on Prime Video two years ago — but there’s certainly some novelty in one that has avatars for the ostensible stars in the form of recognizable actors. “All My Friends,” the sitcom-within-a-special, is named after a 2007 single of LCD Soundsystem’s and even has a TV-ized instrumental version of the song as its theme song.

The comedy series "is set in a surreal version of Los Angeles. Donny and Cory are roommates who look out for each other. Donny, a responsible adult with the temperament and outlook of a child, relies on guidance and life advice from Cory, the dad-like 30-something who has been crashing on his couch for quite some time." The cast includes Cory Loykasek, Donny Divanian, Frankie Quinones and director Robb Boardman, and Andie MacDowell.

The Sundance Institute has unveiled a dozen independent television series for the upcoming festival in the second year of its Indie Episodics section, including works by Nick Hornby and Kyra Sedgwick.

Sundance also announced on Monday that its Special Events section will include the new season of IFC’s documentary parody series “Documentary Now!” and Gregg Araki’s upcoming Starz show “Now Apocalypse,” executive produced by Steven Soderbergh. The shorts section will include 73 short films from 33 countries chosen from 9,443 submissions — 4,720 from the U.S. and 4,723 international.

Of the projects announced on Monday, 53% were directed or created by one or more women, 51% were directed or created by one or more filmmaker of color, and 26% by one or more people who identify as Lgbtqia. And 12 were supported by Sundance Institute in development.

The second year of the Indie Episodic section at Sundance Film Festival brings world premieres of the Nick Hornby marriage therapy comedy State Of The Union directed by Stephen Frears and starring Rosamund Pike and Chris O’Dowd, and Kyra Sedgwick’s Girls Weekend, about a queer daughter who returns for a family gathering in Las Vegas.

Festival programmers have lined up 12 Episodic works, alongside four special events, among them Gregg Araki’s half-hour Starz comedy series Now Apocalypse about the misadventures of four friends in Los Angeles. Steven Soderbergh is among the executive producers.
