Product Of A Nation It is a crime/western/thriller set in one of the largest cities in Ireland, Limerick . It follows an orphaned self- educated crime lord by the name of Joseph Gunne. After being double-crossed by his partner and set up to murder his own wife and son. . He disappears, only to re-emerge after seven years in a mysterious exile, with the City on the brink of social chaos, following the murder of an innocent man who was mistaken for a high profile gangster. This sets about a chain of events that leads to the citizens of its city rising against those who ruled it with a vice-like grip of fear.... and for Joseph to exact revenge on those responsible for his family's demise, to turn the tide of fear on those who have fuelled it. The title can be broken down in this way. In the Sixties the Government moved the working class from the inner-cites to newly developed housing estates on the suburbs. This caused a great deal of displacement and with that came crime. Joseph Gunne is a product not only of his family, but also of his governments decisions made years before he was born. He is a product of their decisions. He is a product of a nation, this nation, and this is his story. “Unscrupulous individuals at the high end of feud-related activity are targeting children and grooming them. These are vulnerable young people who believe this criminality gives them status as hard menâ€�. Superintendent Frank O Brien,Limerick. 2008. I see this as an evolutionary tale in which our hero steadily develops from a criminal into a man who believes that he can lead people, not only the people of his City, but perhaps the Country.
