Biographie

He is a polyglot; he speaks English, Xhosa, Zulu, Sotho, Tswana, Tsonga, Afrikaans and some German.

His father is white (of Swiss origin). His mother is black (of the Xhosa people).

He began his career in comedy when he was out at a bar in South Africa with his cousin and a friend. They were both drunk and began heckling a comedian. When the comedian challenged them to come on stage...they sent Trevor to perform. He went on stage to avoid looking like a "scaredy cat" and discovered that when he spoke, people laughed.

He wrote two versions of his autobiography "Born a Crime". The original version contained some profanity, so he wrote an adapted version without the profanity so that children could read it.

During his childhood he did not know the famous "Happy Birthday to You" song as being the official birthday song because his mother would sing to him a birthday tune from Donald Duck's 50th Birthday (1984).

You have to work a bit harder to offend me because I'm from the home of some of the best racism in the world. I'm a snob when it comes to racism.

I never thought I'd be more afraid of police in America than in South Africa. It kind of makes me a little nostalgic for the old days back home.

Now I wonder if somebody went to jail because a witness was 'sure' that the criminal was wearing 'white and gold. (On the controversy surrounding #TheDress)

If this comedy thing doesn't work out, I've always got poverty to fall back on.
