Iowa Congresswoman Mariannette Miller-Meeks reported receiving death threats after voting against Rep. Jim Jordan in his second failed ballot to secure the House Speakership on Wednesday.

“I have received credible death threats and a barrage of threatening calls.” Miller-Meeks (R-Iowa) wrote in a statement. “The proper authorities have been notified and my office is cooperating fully. One thing I cannot stomach, or support is a bully.”

“Someone who threatens another with bodily harm or tries to suppress differing opinions

undermines opportunity for unity and regard for freedom of speech,” she added.

Bret Baier’s Planned Joint Interview With Speaker Contenders Unravels, Fox News Anchor Says Candidates Backed Out After Pressure From Other Members – Update

Update: Fox News’ Bret Baier said that the planned televised joint interview on Monday with speaker of the House contenders is off, after pushback from other lawmakers.

“They had all agreed, the pressure built, and that’s what happened,” Baier said on Fox News on Friday afternoon.

He said that he is still planning to bring his Special Report to Capitol Hill on Monday with different guests.

Baier said that on Thursday, Steve Scalise and Jim Jordan had said that they would participate. The plans were for a third congressman, Kevin Hern, to participate as well, with the idea that he will have declared by that he was running for speaker by the time the event was announced on Special Report on Friday evening.

Exclusive: Members of a House select committee on China met with Walt Disney Co. CEO Bob Iger and later with a group of Hollywood filmmakers and executives Wednesday, amid concerns over industry business practices in engaging with Beijing.

The committee’s chairman, Rep. Mike Gallagher (R-wi), was joined by nine other members, including its ranking member, Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-il).

According to a source close to the committee, the hourlong meeting “was constructive and it was candid.”

Gallagher expressed concerns around censorship, and Iger spoke about “the relationship with the Chinese Communist party and how it has changed,” among other topics, the source said.

Iger was joined by other Disney executives, and they spoke about how “their goal is not to change the stories,” the source said, adding that the executives conveyed how they tried to walk the line between cultural and political requests from Chinese censors. “They admitted it...
