Meaty

A Beloved Nickelodeon Sitcom Inspired One of the Network's Weirdest Shows
Image
When it comes to mostly harmless family-friendly sitcoms, few are as nostalgically iconic as Nickelodeon’s Drake & Josh. The literal brother comedy had a respectable four-season run, and its 56-episode entirety enjoyed many years of subsequent re-runs. While the show was rarely as squeaky-clean as similar Disney Channel offerings, it was far from obscene or scary. So, fans and admirers may be surprised to learn that the iconic 2000s sitcom laid the groundwork for one of Nickelodeon’s strangest — and arguably most terrifying — shows.

Introducing the short-lived puppet show, Mr. Meaty. The Canadian production began as a series of interstitial shorts on Nickelodeon (US) and CBC Television (Canada). Despite a three-year television run, the show had only 20 full-length episodes. Each entry spanned approximately 22 minutes, and every second alternated between surrealist comedy and felted body horror.

How Drake & Josh Inspired a Puppet Show Mr. Meaty’s protagonists are voiced by the show’s creators.

10 Best Adult Swim TV Shows
Image
Cartoon Network hosts a wide variety of animated shows, pilots, and movies, that are typically catered towards a younger audience. Since launching 31 years ago on October 1st, 1992, the American cable television channel has thrived, gathering mass attention from the youth. The original head programmer, Mike Lazzo, noticed the broadcast extended beyond the hours adolescents are typically watching. Recognizing the dilemma, he considered the idea of creating uncensored content for an older audience in the evening. The network began releasing a collection of anthology cartoons showing after 11 pm that managed to pull in a more mature following. Finding extreme success in this venture, the concept would later snowball into the twisted beauty that is Adult Swim.

Featuring hilarious sketch comedies, mockumentaries, animated sitcoms, and more, Adult Swim has shared a vast collection of mesmerizing entertainment with the world. Taking a different approach to the typical nature of cable television channels, Adult...
