Taking place in the near future, where the Japanese population is predominately senior citizens, a young nurse named Yuki Sakai is thriving to hold the most difficult position within society as a home health aide. However, “Dementia 21” presents an absurd take on possible problems faced by a population revolving entirely around catering and profiting of the elderly. The graphic novel released by Fantagraphics books contains 17 stories of Yuki Sakai, having to deal with such problems as dentures that become sentient and try to conquer the world, extensive and deadly health aide training, and caring for senile Kaiju that often forget they are no longer meant to battle.

The film is based on the ero guro manga by Suehiro Maruo, which circulated in 1984 and was previously adapted in an anime film, in 1992, titled “Midori”.

The story revolves around 14-years-old Midori, an orphan who is picked by the Aka Neko circus troup. The other members include Kanabun, a seemingly cute transvestite who harbors a truly dark side, as he has no issue in killing two puppies with his heels in order to cook them for the troupe. Muchisute is a man with no arms filled with bandages, who is capable of doing everything with his legs, including shooting a bow. The rest of the members are a brute who swallows swords, a sultry woman named Kojiro Arashi and two utterly peculiar creatures of unknown origin. All of them seem to bully Midori, occasionally becoming violent towards her, even blaming her for the commercial failures the circus is experiencing. Everything changes however,...

Torico is a director, fashion designer and blogger. Her first short film, “Mikagami” (2004) received great reviews after its screening in Fantasia International Film Festival and Yubari, and was later screened at festivals all around the world. In 2006, she made her debut feature film, “Ikerushinibana”, which was again screened in festivals around the world, garnering very positive reactions. Her latest film “Midori: The Camellia Girl” is based on the infamous ero guro manga, “Shojo Tsubaki” by Suehiro Maruo. Torico has also published a photobook, has her own blog about fashion on Numero Tokyo, is the director and designer of the Mewee Dinkeee brand, and the founder of the Chiyuri Association.

As far as underground horror goes, few series have quite the same reputation as Guinea Pig. From 1985 to 1988, the Japanese series unleashed all sorts of hell across six films, each capturing their own little slice of atrocity. While they were disconnected in plot, and often in theme, they all had one thing in common: they were incredibly transgressive.

Unfortunately, a lot of them were just schlock, too. The first Guinea Pig film, Satoru Ogura’s The Devil’s Experiment (1985), was a wreck. Despite its bizarro premise of trying to replicate a "found" snuff tape, the film is little more than a misogynist demo reel for some rubbery gore effects, quickly abandoning its premise for overly flowering editing and shots that make you wonder why the killers seem to care so much for impossible camera setups. Freaks get ready to unite, because the upcoming macabre film Circus of Dread is in full swing.

Teaser Poster art for the movie, Directed by Mark Savage and starring Bill Oberst Jr., Domiziano Arcangeli, Vida Ghaffari, Richard Goteri, Dawna Lee Heising, and Jasi Cotton Lanier has just been unleashed.

The design was created by Santiago Caruso and sports a wonderfully crafted 'freak show' illustration.

Australian filmmaker Mark Savage's Circus of Dread, a feature film with strong horror overtones, is now in active development at CineNature, an international production company with interests in American, Japanese, and Australian film production.

Synopsis:

Two brothers - one a priest, one a career criminal - find bloody salvation in a mysterious underground carnival. Prepare for the thrill of a lifetime in a twisted carnival that brings the circus freaks out of the shadows and into your nightmares!

American actor Bill Oberst, Jr., whom Savage calls "a new Lon Chaney", is attached to play Baker, the career criminal of the brothers. The priest will be played by international genre star Domiziano Arcangeli (pictured above). Circus of Dread marks the first screen pairing of Oberst and Arcangeli (both are in the cast of the upcoming horror anthology film Scary or Die but had no scenes together.)
