Younger brother of musician Scott Shiflett.

Called "Shifty" by family, friends, and fans alike.

Has stated in 'theoffcamerashow' that it was a long running myth that he was asked to join Guns n' Roses. He was not. Someone said there was a chance of an audition with them, and he asked about the possibility of an audition with Foo Fighters instead (around 1998), and got the audition and the rest is history (Chris did however, play with a former Guns n ' Roses member, Josh Freese, from 2023-2025 in Foo Fighters, who also played drums for Guns n' Roses from 1997-1999/2000).
