One Night Only has found its leading duo. The upcoming movie is set to be directed by Will Gluck, who recently struck box office gold with the 2023 romantic comedy Anyone But You, which grossed a whopping $220.3 million against its reported $25 million budget. The Anyone But You cast was led by Glen Powell and Sydney Sweeney.
A new duo is stepping into the leads for One Night Only, which was also written by Gluck, revising the original Black List script by Travis Braun. The tweaks he made are unknown, but the original storyline was a comedy tweak on The Purge where premarital sex is only legal for one day, leaving single people rushing to find partners.

Oblivion Returns To Streaming (Photo Credit – Prime Video)
Tom Cruise has had a huge year after he returned as Ethan Hunt for the last time in Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning. Now, one of his earlier science fiction films has made a quick return to streaming after disappearing for a while. Around 12 years ago, Cruise teamed up with Olga Kurylenko, Morgan Freeman, and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau in Oblivion, a story about a man fighting to protect humanity after a stranger changes everything on Earth.
Oblivion Returns On This Platform After Leaving Prime Video
The movie was available on Prime Video until June, and it has now reappeared on Peacock for all subscribers. When it first came out, it earned middling scores on Rotten Tomatoes but drew comparisons to Blade Runner for its vision of a bleak future.

NBC has announced that the 51st season of “Saturday Night Live” will hit the airwaves October 4, a date that is still nearly two months into the future. Meanwhile, its been about three months since “SNL” has graced us with a new set of hilarious(-to-mid) sketches, and last season was one of the series’ most eventful, since it was the 50th lap for the pop culture staple. During its half-centennial run, there was even a movie — about but unaffiliated to the series — about the making of its first episode.
The whole 50th ballyhoo led up to an all-star three-plus hour anniversary show that premiered Sunday (naturally), February 16. The audience was like an Oscar or Emmy night roster: Cher, Robert De Niro, Alec Baldwin, Scarlett Johansson, Zach Galifianakis, Jack Nicholson, Ayo Edebiri, Steve Martin, and Emma Stone, among many more. Meryl Streep appeared in her very first “SNL” sketch, for heaven’s sake.

Will Gluck is returning to familiar territory for his Anyone But You follow-up movie. The filmmaker is set to direct a new romantic comedy for Universal Pictures, with stars from Top Gun: Maverick and Fantastic Beasts in the lead roles.
According to Deadline, Monica Barbaro and Callum Turner are attached to lead One Night Only. Gluck will direct the rom-com based on his rewrite of Travis Braun's 2024 Black List script. It's currently unclear if Gluck's rewrite has strayed from Braun's original draft, which followed two strangers who scramble to find someone to sleep with on the one night of the year when premarital sex is legal. Universal has already set an Aug. 7, 2026, release date for One Night Only, which suggests that this movie is being fast-tracked into production.

This Underrated Sci-Fi On Netflix Starring Emma Stone Is Gaining Attention Again! (Photo Credit – Netflix)
Netflix quietly dropped Maniac back in 2018, and while it did not make much noise at the time, it is now enjoying a second life. Some viewers are circling back, realizing they may have overlooked one of the platform’s more curious and clever sci-fi offerings.
The show arrived with names like Emma Stone and Jonah Hill leading the way, which should have been enough to grab attention. But Maniac, with its ten-episode arc, did not climb the trending charts or get a second season. That was not a surprise, though, since the creators never planned for more. It stood alone, slipping past many people who were probably caught up in bigger, flashier releases.

After making the highest-grossing live-action William Shakespeare adaptation of all time with his steamy flick Anyone But You starring Glen Powell and Sydney Sweeney, director Will Gluck is going back to what worked for his next film. He's landed yet another Top Gun: Maverick star, Monica Barbaro, alongside Masters of the Air alum Callum Turner to lead the new romantic feature One Night Only for Universal, per a new report by Deadline. The project comes at the end of a long search for Gluck's big follow-up to his $220.3 million success, which premiered back in 2023 and helped launch both its leads into new levels of superstardom. In addition to the hot new couple, it was also announced that the film will hit theaters in just under a year on August 7, 2026.
One Night Only is not another Shakespeare adaptation, but it is based on a script by Travis Braun that topped the 2024 Black List.

Got Talent producer Fremantle has seen its half-year revenue fall 5.4%, as parent Rtl posted a mixed interim results in which streaming shone but sales and profits fell.
Fremantle’s revenue for H1 came in at €905M ($1.05B), down from €957M for the same period a year ago. This was attributed to lower revenue from the U.S. and “phasing effects,” and was partially offset by bringing Asacha Media Group into the fold.
In the U.S., the drop had been expected as 2024’s numbers had benefitted from America’s Got Talent spin-off America’s Got Talent: Fantasy League.
However, Fremantle’s adjusted Ebitda, which Rtl noted was the metric most of the production business’s rivals use, increased 7.2%, without breaking out numbers.
Rtl also addressed the €3B full-year revenue target that has begun to hang around Fremantle’s neck like an albatross, saying the group would “continue to invest significantly in IP development,...

Fremantle’s revenue fell 5.4% in the first half of 2025 to €905 million ($1.053 billion), largely due to lower U.S. sales and phasing effects, as parent Rtl Group accelerated its shift toward streaming and confirmed its acquisition of Sky Deutschland. The decline was partly linked to the first half of 2024 benefiting from a spin-off of “America’s Got Talent.”
On Friday, Luxembourg-based Rtl Group reported group revenue of €2.781 billion ($3.236 billion) for the six months ended June 30, down 3.2% from €2.872 billion ($3.343 billion) a year earlier. Adjusted Ebita dropped 7% to €160 million ($186 million), with lower TV advertising revenue partly offset by sharply reduced streaming start-up losses, down 59.5% to €34 million ($39.6 million). Group profit fell to €59 million ($68.7 million) from €173 million ($201.7 million) a year earlier, mainly due to one-time effects and fewer positive fair value adjustments.

Sadie Sink's mystery Spider-Man: Brand New Day role continues to be a hotly debated topic online, though we're still no closer to knowing for sure who the Stranger Things and O'Dessa star will play when she makes her MCU debut.
Jean Grey, Mayday Parker, and Black Cat are just a few of the names we've seen floating around since Sink's casting, but Kristan Harloff is reporting that he's heard a "pretty good guarantee" that Sink will play Gwen Stacy in Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
She's certainly a good fit for Gwen, and with Peter Parker likely heading to college, it makes sense to add a character to the mix who defined those years for him in the comic books. If Sink is playing Gwen, we could see her become Spidey's new love interest or perhaps suit up as superhero herself.

Since 2019, Joaquin Phoenix has been compensating for the success of Joker by starring in one flop after another: C’mon C’mon, Napoleon, Beau Is Afraid, Joker: Folie à Deux, and Eddington. Despite big names being attached to each of these films, their shocking box office performance proves that a fancy label cannot guarantee a big draw every time.
Phoenix’s latest outing only drives home that point further, considering the decorated cast of Eddington that includes Pedro Pascal, Emma Stone, and Austin Butler, with director Ari Aster at the helm of the A24 black comedy Western.
Here are all the 5 films that Phoenix has starred in since the record-breaking, billion-dollar phenomenon, Joker.

Normally, winning an Oscar can take an actor's career to the next level. They're likely to get the cream of the offers, at a higher price than others. For someone like Joaquin Phoenix, who was already established in Hollywood and in contention for the biggest gigs, the only remaining evolution was monetary. He was reportedly paid $20 million to return as the titular character in last year's Joker: Folie à Deux, the sequel to Joker, for which he won his first Academy Award. However, the film infamously tanked with both critics and audiences. To make matters worse, Phoenix was coming off of a string of flops; he needed Joker 2 to work. It didn't; nor has his latest, Eddington.

Ryan Gosling is widely regarded as one of the best actors of his generation. A versatile talent, he's starred in everything from musicals to romantic comedies, action films, and more. Whenever he's onscreen, audiences trust they'll be treated to top-notch acting and a storyline worth watching. He's had a lot of hits, but one of Gosling's most popular movies is 2016's La La Land with Emma Stone. The film, which follows a struggling jazz pianist and an aspiring actor who meet and fall in love while pursuing their dreams in Los Angeles, was one of the most acclaimed productions released that year. Although critics and fans saw the two perform flawlessly, Gosling has since pointed out one thing he wishes he'd done differently.

The brutal rape and murder of four teenage girls at an Austin, Texas frozen yogurt shop is the subject of Margaret Brown’s HBO docuseries “The Yogurt Shop Murders.”
The 1991 slayings of Amy Ayers, sisters Jennifer Harbison and Sarah Harbison, and Eliza Thomas mystified police, haunted the victim’s families, and eventually became “part of the fabric of Austin,” according to Brown.
“It’s something you can’t really get away from in Austin,” said Brown.
Although Brown (“Descendant”) knew about the crime, the idea for a four-part docuseries came from Emma Stone and her husband Dave McCary, who used to live in Austin. The couple brought the docuseries to A24 to produce.
Brown spent over three years interviewing the crime’s investigative teams and the victims’ parents and siblings. The director and her producing team also tracked down interrogation room footage of four teenaged boys who served time for the crime.

Public interest in which movie monsters get to thrive in the pop culture zeitgeist ebbs and flows, and that was especially the case in the late 2000s, when zombies were in vogue. AMC's small-screen adaptation of Robert Kirkman and Tony Moore's comic book "The Walking Dead" has since become a bloated corpse of its former self, roaming the airwaves with a whole bunch of spin-offs and not a lot of chatter about them. But in 2010, that first season was the talk of the town. The Walking Dead" was considered prestige, must-watch television back in 2010. About a year earlier, however, the subgenre received an unexpected boost from an unlikely horror comedy named "Zombieland."
Following in the footsteps of Edgar Wright's seminal zom-com "Shaun of the Dead," Ruben Fleischer's 2009 film took a lighter, yet still gory look at the zombie apocalypse through an eccentric cast of characters with hometown-based nicknames.

The suits at Marvel are no doubt breathing a sigh of relief this weekend, as Fantastic Four: First Steps has finally broken the studio’s recent streak of underwhelming box office openings. While its $118 million debut isn’t quite the juggernaut it would have been during Marvel’s peak—Ant-Man & the Wasp: Quantumania opened to $120 million just three years ago and was considered a disappointment—it’s still a welcome rebound after Captain America: Brave New World ($88 million) and Thunderbolts ($75 million). We expected it to open lower in our predictions. That said, it does fall slightly short of James Gunn’s Superman, which opened two weeks ago to $125 million.
Still, it’s a major win for Marvel’s First Family, whose cinematic track record has been less than stellar. The original 2000s Fantastic Four films debuted to $56 and $57 million respectively, while the ill-fated 2015 reboot sputtered out with just $25.6 million. This...

That unforgettable fight scene in Eddington, where Joe (Joaquin Phoenix) storms Ted’s (Pedro Pascal) party and gets slapped mid-Katy Perry anthem, almost looked and sounded very different. Yep, you heard it right. Turns out, Ari Aster, the creator behind the movie, originally wanted Jay-Z and Alicia Keys’ Empire State of Mind to soundtrack the chaos.
Imagine that the New York anthem is blaring in a dusty New Mexico mayoral face-off. Aster admitted in an interview with Roger Ebert,
We weren’t able to secure the rights, and I really wasn’t expecting to, because it’s such a huge song, but then we spent a lot of time experimenting with different songs in that scene, and “Firework” just fit.
Honestly? It is perfect. The irony of Ted losing his mind over a pop power ballad makes the moment even more delicious.

Among the hot awards titles heading to the Lido are Benny Safdie’s The Smashing Machine, from A24, featuring Dwayne Johnson as two‑time UFC heavyweight champion Mark Kerr and Emily Blunt as his wife Dawn; Luca Guadagnino’s #MeToo–inspired thriller After the Hunt, for Amazon MGM Studios, starring Julia Roberts, Andrew Garfield and Ayo Edebiri, will premiere out of competition; and Guillermo del Toro’s dark reimagining of Frankenstein, featuring Jacob Elordi, Oscar Isaac and Mia Goth, a Netflix production.
This will mark the Venice festival debut for both Roberts and Johnson.
Netflix, which sat out Vence last year, is back in force for 2025. Alongside Frankenstein, the streamer has Noah Baumbach’s comedy‑drama Jay Kelly,...

We’re breaking down the top 10 films that ruled the weekend, counting down from the lowest earner to the reigning champ. Each movie brought something unique, and we’ve got the details on what made them stand out.
10. 28 Years Later (2025) Columbia Pictures
‘28 Years Later’ pulled in $1.34 million in its fifth week, continuing the zombie franchise’s legacy. Directed by Danny Boyle, this sequel keeps the high-stakes horror alive with a fresh story of survival in a ravaged world.
Its box office has tapered off, but the film’s global total of $145 million proves its enduring appeal. Fans of the series are still drawn to its raw intensity, though newer releases are stealing the spotlight.

Eddington's reactions are in following the movie's release this weekend, and it seems to have divided audiences. The film is the fourth A24 movie from acclaimed director Ari Aster. It takes on an intense time in recent history, covering a May 2020 Covid-19 pandemic standoff between a mayor and a sheriff in a New Mexico town.
Eddington premiered at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year, and even from then, opinions were split. The movie has a 67% Tomatometer on Rotten Tomatoes, showing this division. One of the middling reviews came from ScreenRant's Graeme Guttmann, who gave Eddington 6 out of 10 stars.
Now, audience reactions are in for Eddington. Plenty of viewers appreciated the film, but it also elicited memes and was deemed "No Country for Woke Men." Some people walked out of the movie confused, and others were not satisfied by it. Check out some responses below:
uh oh I liked Eddington,...

Pedro Pascal’s Eddington Witnesses A Slow Start In The US ( Photo Credit – YouTube )
After a lukewarm reception of The Materialists, Pedro Pascal is back on the big screen again in Eddington, a film that does not quite land the way it aimed to. At the same time, director Ari Aster returns with something even bigger in scale (after Beau is Afraid divided audiences and did not do much at the box office) but not necessarily in impact.
The film, backed by A24 and packed with star power, including Joaquin Phoenix, Emma Stone, and Austin Butler, opened with a quiet $4 million in the US, per Box Office Mojo. It is not the kind of start expected from a movie believed to cost between $35 and $50 million to make, per Collider.

Superman easily reigns as the box office champion for the second weekend in a row, and James Gunn’s opus made an estimated $57.3 million domestically in its sophomore stanza. Unfortunately for newcomers I Know What You Did Last Summer and Smurfs, neither enticed enough audiences into theaters to contend for second place, let alone the top spot against the Man of Steel. True, the legacy horror sequel, which features the return of Freddie Prinze Jr. and Jennifer Love Hewitt, slayed Smurfs in their head-to-head competition, but it was Jurassic World Rebirth roaring its way to the silver medal with $23.4 million.
I Know What You Did Last Summer settled for third place over its opening weekend with $13 million in the United States and Canada, which is comparable to the $15.8 million debut the original I Know What You Did Last Summer brought home back in October 1997. Now, the question becomes: can the...

Update July 20, 2025: Superman is still flying high at the box office.
DC Studios and Warner Bros.' James Gunn-led reboot soared to another box-office victory over the July 18-20 weekend, earning $57.3 million domestically — marking a 54 percent drop from its opening weekend. Universal's Jurassic World Rebirth roared into second place with $23.4 million in its third week, while new releases from Sony's I Know What You Did Last Summer ($13 million) and Paramount's Smurfs ($11 million) struggled with underwhelming openings. Warner Bros.' F1: The Movie rounded out the top five with $9.6 million.
Superman is just the latest success story for Warner Bros. this year — the studio's sixth number-one movie following Mickey 17, A Minecraft Movie, Sinners, Final Destination: Bloodlines, and F1. Warner Bros. currently ranks as the top studio of 2025, with $1.32 billion in domestic receipts. However, that position may shift as Disney's highly anticipated Fantastic Four: First Steps is...
