Relay: Hits 76% On Rotten Tomatoes With Standout Performances By Riz Ahmed & Lily James
Image
Stellar Performances By Riz Ahmed And Lily James (Photo Credit – Instagram)

Riz Ahmed steps into Relay with the quiet presence he is known for. He plays Tom, a professional fixer who manages corporate payoffs like he is moving pieces on a chessboard. His tight and deliberate performance peels back into something more personal as the story unfolds. Lily James appears as Sarah, a woman who might need his services or have other motives entirely. Their scenes together do not shout for attention but keep a steady grip on it.

Ahmed’s recent work has built a clear path to this. From the Sound of Metal to Encounter and Nightcrawler, he...

Eddington | Internet is the real enemy in Ari Aster’s latest
Image
In Ari Aster’s latest provocative, mind-boggling movie, the internet is the real enemy amongst all the chaos. Some thoughts on Eddington:

Warning! Heavy spoilers for Eddington and some key spoilers for Beau Is Afraid, Hereditary and Midsommar.

Ari Aster has always been interested in cults. Whether it’s the naked worshippers of Paimon in Hereditary, the people of Hårga (also often naked) in Midsommar or even the manipulation committed by Beau’s mother in Beau Is Afraid, Aster has more or less traumatised his audiences with the loss of individuality under bigger influences.

His latest, Eddington, is no different. Sure, there are no penis monsters or old people jumping off cliffs to their deaths,...

Taking on one of Hollywood’s most notoriously wicked villains, Stone embraced the challenge of reimagining a woman audiences had long loved to hate.

Despite the ongoing effects of the Covid-19 pandemic on theaters, Cruella defied the odds. It became a surprise box office hit, winning over fans with its bold visuals, punk-rock spirit, and...

Eddington
Image
2020 was a hell of a year. It has been both five years and several lifetimes since the Covid-19 pandemic shut down the world, and it remains arguably, a collective trauma we as a species have yet to process. There have been modest attempts at trying to grapple cinematically with this epochal event, but few have grabbed the subject by its greasy horns quite as fearlessly as Ari Aster does with Eddington.

Aster’s fourth feature is yet another different tack for the filmmaker: less terrifying than the overt horrors of Hereditary and Midsommar; less inaccessibly weird than the picaresque odyssey of Beau Is Afraid. Instead it’s a heightened but recognisably real comedic satire set during the doldrums of the initial coronavirus outbreak, amid the divisions and conflicts that it sparked, and the pre-existing social and cultural fault lines that it laid bare.

Nobody is making political and cultural satire with this much insight.

Spider-Man 4 Can Give Tom Holland Darker Story, But Will It Match Andrew Garfield’s 11-Year Old Masterpiece?
Image
Tom Holland’s Spider-Man 4 will indeed be a dark tale. The world has forgotten Peter Parker, and he is without friends and his Aunt May. Grieving and alone, Peter Parker will also be joined by Jon Bernthal’s Punisher in the upcoming movie (and possibly Venom?).

This will add a vengeance storyline to Peter Parker, who is already angry at the world for not remembering him. Well, to say that Spider-Man 4 would be a depressing watch would be an understatement. However, it still won’t be able to compete with Andrew Garfield’s 11-year-old masterpiece of a movie that traumatized a generation.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2, which starred Garfield in the lead role of Peter Parker, aka Spider-Man, was released in 2014, and it is…the most depressing Spider-Man movie to date.

In an interview with SiriusXM’s Town Hall, via Vanity Fair, Watson explained why she had to pass on La La Land. She was already locked into another significant role—playing Belle in Disney’s live-action Beauty and the Beast. “It’s one of these frustrating things where names get attached to projects very early,” Watson explained, “but nothing’s set in stone.” The problem? Emma Stone Reveals The One Thing She Hated About Making The Amazing Spider-man Movies
Image
Emma Stone first played Gwen Stacy in 2012's The Amazing Spider-Man, and reprised the role two years later in The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Sony Pictures pulled the plug on the franchise after that sequel, scrapping plans for two more movies and Sinister Six. Spidey then swung into the MCU, with Tom Holland playing Peter Parker in Captain America: Civil War.

Despite Gwen's death in the second movie, the plan had been for her to be resurrected in The Amazing Spider-Man 3. Fortunately, that never happened.

During a recent interview breaking down Stone's iconic fashion looks over the years, the actor reflected on the time she spent as part of the Marvel Universe.

"I really loved doing 'Spider-Man,'" she started. "I loved everybody I worked with. I met Andrew [Garfield] there. I met Sally Field. Marc Webb was wonderful. It was a really special time in my life. That’s...

Emma Stone at an event for Birdman ou (La Surprenante vertu de l'ignorance) (2014)
Emma Stone is revisiting her stint as Gwen Stacy with an affectionate, matter-of-fact clarity. In a video released this week tied to her Vogue cover, the actor calls making the two Amazing Spider-Man films “a really special time in my life,” stressing that what endures for her are the people she met on those sets, from co-star Andrew Garfield to Sally Field and director Marc Webb. “I really loved doing Spider-Man,” she says in the clip, describing that period as defined by relationships rather than the movies’ scale.

Stone also offers a less glossy snapshot of franchise publicity, recalling international tours as “truly psychotic,” the kind of schedule that leaves you “half dead.” She describes crisscrossing multiple countries in short order and operating on relentless jet lag, a reminder of how modern blockbuster promotion can rival production itself for sheer grind.

The reflections arrive more than a decade after her debut in the role,...

While Stone admitted she loved doing the films, she revealed a detail that she absolutely hated.

New to Streaming: Eddington, Dawson City: Frozen Time, The Legend of Ochi & More
Image
Each week we highlight the noteworthy titles that have recently hit streaming platforms in the United States. Check out this week’s selections below and past round-ups here.

Dawson City: Frozen Time (Bill Morrison)

There is a scholarly theory that proposes films are always telling the story of their creation, singing an endless song about their own history. That seemed to have been literally the case in 1978 when Frank Barrett, a construction worker in Dawson City in the northern Yukon, discovered strips of nitrate film poking out of the earth in the site of a new recreation center — like stubborn blossoms trying to defeat the harshness of winter. Children had taken to lighting the visible strips on fire unaware that in the joy of the pyrotechnic display they were erasing history. Barrett’s unique discovery led to the unearthing of over 500 reels containing films made in the 1910s and 1920s,...

Emma Stone Shaves Head For Yorgos Lanthimos' Sci-Fi Thriller Bugonia
Image
Emma Stone has never shied away from total commitment, and it shows in her upcoming movie Bugonia. Set for release on Oct. 24, 2025, Bugonia is a remake of the cult South Korean film Save the Green Planet! and follows conspiracy theorists Jesse Plemons and Aidan Delbis' kidnapping of a powerful pharmaceutical CEO (Stone), believing her to be an alien.

From her Oscar-winning performance in La La Land to her haunting transformation in Poor Things, Stone has proven her dedication to her roles. However, for Yorgos Lanthimos' upcoming sci-fi thriller movie, Stone took things to a whole other level by shaving off her actual hair on camera for a pivotal scene, which friend Jennifer Lawrence tried to talk her out of.

In an interview with Vogue, Stone opened up about filming Bugonia, talking about the "emotional" experience where the kidnappers shave her head in the backseat of a stolen Range Rover. While...

Emma Stone: “Bugonia”
Actress Emma Stone (“Bugonia”) poses for the September 2025 issue of “Vogue” magazine, wearing Louis Vuitton, photographed by Jamie Hawkesworth:

Stone made her television debut in the show "In Search of the New Partridge Family" (2004), a reality show that produced only an unsold pilot.

After small TV roles, she made her film debut in "Superbad" (2007) and "Zombieland" (2009). The 2010 teen comedy "Easy A" was Stone's first starring role, earning her nominations for the 'BAFTA Rising Star Award' and a 'Golden Globe Award' for 'Best Actress'.

This breakthrough was followed with further success in the romantic comedy "Crazy, Stupid, Love" (2011) and the drama "The Help" (2011).

In 2012 she played 'Gwen Stacy' in "The Amazing Spider-Man" and its sequel in 2014.

Eddington (2025) Movie Ending Explained & Themes Analyzed: What lies in the future of Eddington?
Image
Ari Aster’s Eddington (2025) follows a violent conflict in a small American town, but doesn’t track it like the conventional Westerns, where you’re told whom to root for. The film depicts the hot-button topics from the Covid-19 pandemic era that were either impossible to ignore or notice. Aster’s script doesn’t give us a single hero to side with, nor does it offer a single villain to despise. Instead, it attempts to portray the political turmoil on US soil as faithfully as possible. Its satire is meant to disturb and enrage you as things go out of control, seemingly with no end in sight. Even the film’s bleak, cynical ending doesn’t choose any side in the country’s corporate-funded bipartisan politics. Instead, it fills you with dread as it offers a rather bleak mirror to the present-day world, where people are either ignoring the elephant...

A24's Controversial Film Eddington Now On Digital Platforms
Image
A24's most divisive movie has come to digital platforms less than a month after its theatrical release. Known for stunning visuals and unconventional approaches, the studio has released several movies that sparked strong debate. Despite being widely praised for its originality and emotional depth, Everything Everywhere All at Once received some backlash after its Oscar win.

Long before this, in 2018, Florence Pugh's Midsommar saw both critical acclaim and backlash, particularly due to its controversial ending. Some interpreted the movie's ending as being about liberation, while others saw it as a descent into cult manipulation. Recently, a new A24 dark comedy from the Midsommar director again sparked controversy.

Emma Stone Cried Before Shaving Her Head for ‘Bugonia’ Because of Her Mom’s Breast Cancer Battle: “She Actually Did Something Brave”
Image
Emma Stone didn’t mind shaving her head for Yorgos Lanthimos’ upcoming film Bugonia, but the experience did make her quite emotional.

After debuting a first look at the project at CinemaCon earlier this year, a clip from the teaser showcased the two-time Oscar winner with the haircut. In her Monday cover story with Vogue, the actress opened up about the mixed experience of shaving her head for the role.

“No better feeling in the world,” she said when describing what it felt like to chop off her hair. “The first shower when you’ve shaved your head? Oh my God, it’s amazing.”

However, Stone revealed that before they executed the cut mid-shot for Bugonia, she “burst into tears in her trailer” when remembering her mother, Krista Stone, who previously shaved her head during breast cancer treatment.

“She actually did something brave,” Stone recalled thinking to herself at the time.

Image
After bombing at the box office, one of the most recent releases from star Pedro Pascal has arrived on streaming sooner than expected. Pascal stars alongside Joaquin Phoenix (Joker: Folie á Deux) and Emma Stone (Poor Things) in Eddington, the contemporary Western following a standoff between a small-town sheriff and the mayor that sparks a shocking conflict in the small town of Eddington, New Mexico. After grossing only $11 million at the box office against a $25 million budget, A24 has rushed Eddington onto digital platforms, where the film is now available to watch on Prime Video, Fandango at Home, and Apple TV+. Eddington was written and directed by Ari Aster, and it earned mediocre scores of 68% from critics and 64% from audiences on the world’s leading aggregator site, Rotten Tomatoes.

Marvel's Spectacular Spider-Man Had One Goal With Gwen Stacy
Image
We may receive a commission on purchases made from links.

While the animated series "The Spectacular Spider-Man" has one of the best takes on Mary Jane Watson, the show made a rare choice among Spidey adaptations and didn't use Mj (Vanessa Marshall) as Peter Parker's (Josh Keaton) primary love interest. Instead, the show focused on Peter's romance with Gwen Stacy (Lacey Chabert). In the process, it modernized and revitalized Gwen Stacy's character, who was most famous for her dramatic but abrupt death in "The Amazing Spider-Man" #121 back in 1973.

In the season 1 finale of "The Spectacular Spider-Man," "Nature vs. Nurture," Eddie Brock/Venom (Ben Diskin) tells Peter he's going to hurt the person who he loves the most. Peter thinks he's talking about Mj, and so does the audience if they knew the Sam Raimi "Spider-Man" movies. But Venom is actually after Gwen. The symbiote, having previously bonded with Peter in body and mind,...

Jennifer Lawrence at an event for Passengers (2016)
Jennifer Lawrence Tried to Dissuade Emma Stone From Bugonia Head Shave
Jennifer Lawrence at an event for Passengers (2016)
Jennifer Lawrence says she initially tried to talk Emma Stone out of shaving her head for Yorgos Lanthimos’ Bugonia, a choice Stone ultimately made and filmed on camera for a pivotal kidnapping scene. The detail surfaces in a new magazine profile, where Lawrence jokes she had already “lived through” Stone’s short Billie Jean King cut years ago and feared another drastic chop; she later conceded the look suited her friend.

Stone plays a pharmaceutical CEO abducted by two conspiracy obsessives who shear her hair in the back seat of a stolen SUV; the moment was executed practically, with Stone’s real hair falling to the upholstery. She describes the experience as unexpectedly exhilarating—down to the first post-scene shower—and links the decision to memories of her mother losing hair during cancer treatment. Stone also quips that before cameras rolled, she took clippers to Lanthimos’ head.

The film, an...

Jennifer Lawrence Says ‘I Really Didn’t Want’ Emma Stone Shaving Her Hair Off for ‘Bugonia’: ‘I Had Already Lived Through’ Her ‘Billie Jean King Haircut’
Image
Jennifer Lawrence admitted to Vogue as part of Emma Stone’s new cover story that she originally argued against Stone shaving all her hair off for Yorgos Lanthimos’ upcoming “Bugonia,” a reimagining of the 2003 South Korean film “Save the Green Planet!” that casts Stone as a pharmaceutical CEO who gets kidnapped by a pair of conspiracy theorists (Jesse Plemons and Aidan Delbis) convinced she is an alien set on destroying Earth.

“I really didn’t want her to shave her head,” Lawrence said about her two-time Oscar-winning friend. “I had already lived through the Billie Jean King haircut.”

Lawrence is referring to the hairdo Stone rocked in “Battle of the Sexes,” in which she played the iconic tennis player Billie Jean King. For “Bugonia,” Stone channeled her inner Natalie Portman in “V for Vendetta” and shaved her hair off on camera while filming a scene for the dark comedy in...
