He is the first actor to play a live-action version of DC Comics hero Green Arrow.

Attended Southern Illinois University and The University of Illinois in Chicago. Majored in History and Theater.

Has played two members of the DC Comics Justice League: Aquaman and Green Arrow.

Daughter Isabella Hartley (Isabella Justice Hartley), with Lindsay Hartley, was born on July 3, 2004.

Was going to play the young Aquaman on Aquaman (2006) and then appeared as the Green Arrow/Oliver Queen on Smallville (2001). The episode "Justice" featured him as Green Arrow opposite Alan Ritchson as Aquaman, whose previous appearance on the episode "Aqua" had sparked interest in doing Mercy Reef (2006) (even though Ritchson, five years younger than Hartley, was not considered for the Mercy Reef (2006) series).

I don't have a gardener because I enjoy pulling weeds. It's hard to explain but there is something fulfilling about pulling out a weed and knowing that you got all the roots.

Any father can relate to feeling like a superhero when you put a Band-Aid on your kid.

I know, who doesn't want to play a superhero, right? And everyone wants to play Superman or Batman. Everyone wants to play a superhero.

If you sit and feel sorry for yourself, you're wasting your time. You should be in acting class, instead of feeling sorry for yourself. You should be working.

I found a very comfortable style in that if I know everyone's job around me, it's going to make me better at my job.
