With new episodes just months away from debuting, FBIconfirms that a cast member will be leaving. CBS recently unveiled its fall line-up of shows, revealing that FBI season 8 will return on Monday, October 13 at 8 Pm. It's also been confirmed that the show will welcome a new cast member.

Juliana Aidén Martinez, who previously played Detective Kate Silva for a single season of Law & Order: Svu, has joined FBI season 8 in an undisclosed main cast member role. But a surprising cast departure offers a potential clue as to who Martinez might be playing.

TVLinereports that S.W.A.T. and Magnum P.I. alum Emily Alabi will be leaving FBI after recurring in season 8 as Dani Rhodes, one of the partners of John Boyd's Stuart Scola. The actress will make an appearance to wrap up her character's story, however.

Juliana Aidén Martinez is jumping from one Dick Wolf show to another. Two months after departing Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, the actor has been tapped for a series regular role on FBI.

According to Deadline, Martinez has closed a deal to join FBI as a series regular for its upcoming eighth season, which is scheduled to premiere on CBS on Monday, Oct. 13. No details about Martinez’s character have been disclosed yet, although FBI's Stuart Scola (John Boyd) is still looking for a permanent partner after the departure of both Tiffany Wallace (Katherine Renee Kane) and Syd Ortiz (Lisette Olivera) last season. It's possible that Martinez could end up playing Scola's new partner, especially since Emily Alabi is set to wrap up her arc as his temporary partner, Dani Rhodes, at the beginning of next season.

The latest update on FBIseason 8 hints that Scola is getting a new partner, as a familiar face joins the cast. Since the departure of Katherine Renee Kane early in season 7, with Special Agent Tiffany Wallace stepping away from the job, FBI has been in a state of flux. Scola (John Boyd) has been paired with a few different partners.

National Treasure: Edge of History alum Lisette Olivera was originally meant to be Scola's new partner, playing Syd Ortiz, a trained Behavioral Analysis Unit Agent, albeit she departed after a few episodes, with the producers going in a different direction. S.W.A.T. actor Emily Alabi was then brought on in a recurring capacity with the potential to become a series regular.

People say those who are resistant to change oftentimes break, when said change becomes inevitable. For FBI's Scola Stuart (John Boyd), he seems to be quite adaptable at the moment. Having parted ways with his longtime partner, Tiffany (Katherine Renee Kane), in the procedural's Season 7 premiere, Scola has had to try out other partnerships. Sydney Ortiz (Lisette Olivera) is the most recent, however, that hasn't worked out either. Looking ahead regarding what comes next for the agent, a lack of a partner isn't what is likely to upset Scola in a future episode, according to Boyd.

The crime drama S.W.A.T. has yet to achieve the supreme popularity of other CBS series such as NCIS or Blue Bloods, but it's strong enough that it managed to survive not one, but two cancellations. Between 2023 and 2024, S.W.A.T. was in a weird limbo state when Sony and CBS struggled to find common ground to keep the series on-air. Eventually, they did come to an agreement that worked for everybody, but not after a long string of disappointments and confusing decisions.

As Season 7 of FBI began, it was confirmed that Tiffany Wallace (Katherine Renee Kane) was leaving the FBI, feeling guilty over losing a partner in Season 6. That left her regular partner, Stuart Scola (John Boyd), needing a new partner.

After a few brief fill-ins, Scola seemed to get a regular new partner in Sydney Ortiz (Lissette Olivera). A member of the Behavioral Crimes Unit, Sydney worked with the team to find a killer targeting her sister. She impressed them enough to join full-time.

It was expected that Olivera would be a regular face on the show and Boyd talked about working with her. That’s why it was a shock when it was announced that Olivera was already leaving the show before her debut episode even aired.

A new FBI spinoff series has entered development at CBS. It marks the latest TV show from crime procedural mastermind Dick Wolf, as well as the third spinoff made for FBI.

Per Deadline, a new FBI spinoff series is in development with a focus on the CIA. Titled FBI: CIA, the series is eyed for a potential series order for the 2025-26 television season, but it hasn't been officially greenlit just yet. Wolf is writing the series alongside FBI: Most Wanted showrunner David Hudgins, Nicole Perlman (Captain Marvel), and former CIA officer David Chasteen. The possible spinoff would first be given a backdoor pilot in an upcoming episode of FBI to introduce the new characters.

FBI fans have been enduring some unexpected changes on the show. The Season 7 premiere opened by revealing Wallace (Katherine Renee Kane) was leaving the unit. That left Scola (John Boyd) without a regular partner with a couple of fill-ins that didn’t work out.

The plan was for Sydney Ortiz (Lisette Olivera) to join as a Bau operative jumping to the main team. But in a shocking turn, before Sydney’s first episode even aired, it was announced Olivera was leaving the series. It sounded like the character just wasn’t working for the producers and being written out.

Throughout Season 7 of FBI, Oa has reconnected with one of his old army buddies, Clay (Guy Lockard). Oa realized Clay was involved with some shady deals and enlisted him as a confidential informant, with Maggie worried Oa was letting his friendship with the man cloud his judgment.

In “Riptide,” the team was tracking who was responsible for a heist of a cargo container of gold that led to the deaths of several officers. Clay seemed to be working with the team but when the heist turned into a shootout, Oa realized Clay was trying to steal the gold for himself.

FBI season 7, episode 4 introduces a potential new replacement for Tiffany Wallace when Syd Ortiz joins the team. Tiffany left the FBI season 7 cast after the season premiere, explaining that she was moving to Georgia to work in her sister's cafe and regain her peace of mind. Replacing her was not going to be easy, as she had been Scola's partner since season 3, and he totally trusted her.

While FBI justified writing Tiffany out, their explanations for why Scola's new partners keep leaving aren't nearly as clear. He has had two partners so far, and neither of them has lasted more than an episode. Sofia Ortega decided that the New York Field Office wasn't for her, while neither Ulrich's presence nor his absence was ever explained. FBI Season 7, Episode 4, "Doubted" is a surprisingly underwhelming episode of the CBS show, but the surprise wears off when one learns the circumstances around it. The installment is the debut of National Treasure: Edge of History star Lisette Olivera, who was cast to fill the vacancy created when Katherine Renee Kane left the series. As such, "Doubted" is truly constructed around Olivera's character Sydney "Syd" Ortiz and everyone else feels like they're just along for the ride. But then there's a catch that makes it even more complicated.

"Doubted" begins when Sydney's sister Melanie Ortiz is attacked by a stranger in her apartment. Dissatisfied with the police response, Sydney convinces Isobel Castille to make it an FBI case, and naturally uncovers a much larger crime.

In FBI Season 7, Episode 4, "Doubted," a new team member joins the New York Field Office. Sydney Ortiz (Lisette Olivera) is a Bau profiler who seeks the help of Jubal's (Jeremy Sisto) team when her sister is the victim of an attempted kidnapping. This sends her and the entire team on a hunt for a sexual offender who leaves no evidence behind him. The logline for the November 12 episode teases this case, while a new sneak peek previews the new agent who will be paired with Scola (John Boyd) for several episodes.

FBI has been churning out some great episodes this season, especially as we follow the aftermath of Stuart Scola losing his partner, Tiffany Wallace, after she decided to leave the FBI. Unfortunately, even though we’re already looking forward to new episodes, we will have to wait another week to watch our favorite CBS series.

There will not be a brand new episode airing on Tuesday, Nov. 5, nor will there be a repeat. Instead, CBS will be airing election night coverage for the U.S. This means that normal primetime broadcast shows will not be airing any episodes. So unfortunately, we have to wait another week to see what the FBI agents are up to.

FBI's disappointing casting update for season 7 confirms what I was afraid would happen during season 7. Tiffany Wallace left FBI in the season 7 premiere, leaving Scola (John Boyd) without a partner. In the episodes since, Scola has worked with several partners who were not good fits for him and did not remain with the New York Field Office, making it clear that they were only placeholders until Syd (Lisette Olivera) could arrive on the scene.

I disapproved of the idea of using temporary partners because it would make it more difficult to trust that Syd was staying for more than a few episodes. However, her character sounded like it would move FBI in a bold, new direction by including a behavioral analyst with little tactical experience in the FBI: season 7 cast. One character on the CBS procedural FBI will be once again without a partner, as Deadline reports Lisette Olivera is leaving the show - before her character even debuts on the series. Oliveras character was originally supposed to be a new partner for Special Agent Stuart Scola, played by John Boyd.

Olivera has filmed a handful of episodes of the hit series and will first be seen in Episode 4 of the current seventh season of FBI as a character named Syd Ortiz. That episode is set to air on Nov. 12. Ortiz is a trained Behavioral Analysis Unit Agent with the criminal division of the New York office of the FBI.

The episodes featuring Olivera are expected to air as previously planned.
