• Olympus Has Fallen may have fizzled critically (EW gave Antoine Fuqua’s action pic a C), but Millennium Films is hoping to get traction on a sequel, called London Has Fallen. The $70 million pic made about $98.9 million domestically for a worldwide total of $161 million. Gerard Butler, Aaron Eckhart, and Morgan Freeman are expected to reprise their roles from the first film. Fuqua (Training Day) will not be returning to direct, but they will use the same screenwriting team from the first film. Shooting on the sequel is already set for May 2014, and the plot will center on a terrorist attack...

“The Ring” star Daveigh Chase has signed on to star in the serial killer thriller “American Romance,” which is a co-production between Hub Media and Traverse Media, the latter of which recently signed the actress to its management division, TheWrap has learned. Zackary Adler (“I’m Reed Fish”) is directing the indie movie, which is the first feature for Hub partners Gary Sugarman and Crawford Anderson-Dillon. Sony’s plans to make the Playstation 3 the heart of the home cinema is coming ever closer with the launch of two new movie-streaming services this month, LoveFilm and Mubi. These join the music streaming / on-demand service VidZone (review here) and the “still-in-beta” PS3-optimized service from Blinkbox which is available via the browser and Sony’s very own Psn Movie Store.

Mubi

Henry Hopper, son of Dennis Hopper, has joined the cast of Gus Van Sant’s latest film, formerly known as Restless. This film is full of the progeny of Hollywood icons, including Schulyer Fisk, the daughter of Sissy Spacek. Fisk’s previous work includes the indie comedy I’M Reed Fish.

Screen Media Films

NEW YORK -- Meta-theatrics infuse novelty into this otherwise routine coming-of-age indie comedy about a young man coping with prewedding jitters. Scripted by Reed Fish (who, suspiciously, doesn't merit a bio in the press kit) and directed by Zackary Adler, "I'm Reed Fish" ultimately is too clever for its own good.

The titular character, played by Jay Baruchel (Knocked Up), is an orphaned small-town guy looking to fill his late father's shoes as his community's resident radio personality. Engaged to town hottie Kate (Alexis Bledel), everything in his life seems to be working just fine. That is, until the arrival of his old school friend Jill (Schuyler Fisk), an aspiring musician who makes him suddenly re-evaluate his decision.

Spoiler alert: At a certain point in the proceedings, the rug is pulled out from the viewer, as what we're watching is revealed to be a film within a film, an autobiographical effort by the central character that, well, you get the idea.

There are fun moments throughout, thanks to the efforts of its leading players. Baruchel, more than a little reminiscent of Zach Braff here, has good comic timing, and Fisk is a real charmer. There also is a terrific supporting cast that includes such comedic pros as DJ Qualls, Katey Sagal and Chris Parnell.

Ultimately, the relentless quirkiness of the proceedings proves wearisome, and the bizarre structural conceit is not enough to compensate for the overly familiar characterizations and story line.
