Netflix’s ‘Grenfell: Uncovered’ wins Sheffield DocFest audience award

Netflix’s Grenfell: Uncovered won the audience award at UK documentary festival Sheffield DocFest (June 18-22).

Olaide Sadiq’s film world premiered at the festival and follows the forensic investigation into the 2017 Grenfell Tower fire that killed 72 people.

Elsewhere, Anastasiya Miroshnichenko‘s Welded Together took home the grand jury award in the international competition. Centring on alcoholism in Belarus, the jury called the film an “honest and delicate portrayal” of a young woman struggling to keep her family. A special mention was given to US feature The Gas Station Attendant from Karla Murthy.

Sheffield DocFest: ‘Welded Together,’ About Alcoholism in Belarus, Wins Top Award

The 32nd edition of Sheffield DocFest 2025 is wrapping on Monday after an awards ceremony at Sheffield’s Crucible Playhouse, which honored Anastasiya Miroshnichenko‘a Welded Together with the festival’s top award. The documentary deals with alcoholism in Belarussian society, portraying a young woman who is desperately trying to hold her family together.

This year saw 51 world premieres, 16 international premieres, eight European premieres, and 39 U.K. premieres from 68 countries of production screen in Sheffield.

Here is a look at the 2025 award winners.

International Competition (Grand Jury Award)

Sheffield DocFest Award Winners — Full List

The 32nd edition of the Sheffield DocFest has concluded in England.

On Sunday, director Anastasiya Miroshnichenko’s Welded Together won the festival’s Grand Jury Award for the International Competition during the closing gala at Sheffield’s Crucible Playhouse.

The festival’s jury called the selection “a portrait of resilience and strength — both of the main character and of a community that stands in solidarity. The film highlights the contrast between the generosity of the people and the harsh realities of alcoholism in the Belarussian society. An honest and delicate portrayal of a young woman desperately trying to hold her family ‘welded together.'”

Kicking off on June 18, the festival hosted 51 world premieres from 68 countries of production. In partnership with Showroom Cinema, the DocNights screening program will continue year-round.

BAFTA TV Craft Awards: ‘Chernobyl’ The Big Winner After Scooping Seven Prizes

Updated With Winners: Chernobyl was the big winner at the BAFTA TV Craft Awards on Friday after the Sky and HBO drama scooped seven awards.

The Sister-produced nuclear disaster series beat competition from the likes of The Crown, Killing Eve and The Virtues at the pre-recorded ceremony, triumphing in categories including Director: Fiction for Johan Renck. Other wins included best Production Design and Editing: Fiction.

Elsewhere, other winners included Jesse Armstrong, who took home best Writer: Drama for Succession, while Jamie Demetriou scooped best Writer: Comedy for Stath Lets Flats. This Was Up creator Aisling Bea won the Breakthrough Talent gong. BBC and HBO drama His Dark Materials won in two categories: Special, Visual and Graphic Effects, and Titles and Graphic Identity.
