Heufer-Umlauf lives in Berlin-Kreuzberg and is allied with the Austrian presenter Doris Golpashin. On 14 April 2013 was born the first child of the couple.

He wears glasses off-camera but usually tries to avoid using them when on television or being photographed because he does not want people to get used to how he looks with glasses as it would presumably lead to him being recognized more often, while also indicating vanity as an additional reason.

Has two sons (b. 2013 and 2018) with partner Doris Golpashin.

Before his career in TV, he worked as a makeup artist in Weimar.

He is a trained hairdresser and has expressed surprise he actually managed to pass the training because he believes he has no talent whatsoever as a hairdresser.

He is the lead singer and lyricist of the band Gloria and has released several albums with them.

The MTV Home (2009) challenge "Aushalten - Rauchen" ("Endure it - Smoking") which involved him and Joko Winterscheidt smoking various tobacco products nonstop while sitting in a car with closed windows resulted in him taking up smoking again two weeks after it was filmed, having previously quit while working for music channel Viva due to being fed up with his fingers yellowing constantly and not having smoked for over four years. He quit once more on 28 February 2019 after several unsuccessful attempts.

He has a horror of hugging and other kinds of physical contact with strangers and strongly dislikes shopping, crowds and especially shopping centers as they involve both.

According to Joko Winterscheidt, he is a cleaning maniac.

He has stated that friendships with him are difficult because he needs his time to consider another person a friend.

He is severely red-green color blind.

Due to joint hypermobility, he is able to bend his fingers backwards so far they touch the back of his hands.

According to Jakob Lundt, he "eats candy 24/7" and would become cranky if someone took it away from him. He was given a huge bag chock-full of it by the production team of Joko gegen Klaas - Das Duell um die Welt (2012) as "trail food" for his travels.

He has stated that he prefers holidaying in hotels actually targeting pensioners and that his brain already felt like that of a 45 year old when he was in his twenties.

While he did pass his training as a hairdresser, he received an E for the perm he applied on an elderly female acquaintance on whose hair he had also practiced the hairstyle in the weeks leading up to the examination. The perm made the woman look almost identical to Queen Elizabeth II, resulting in Klaas having a laughing fit which he believes at least partly caused the bad grade.

He is interested in politics, literature and theater.

He attended a Realschule and has expressed regret about not having the Abitur qualification and not having attended university, while also acknowledging not wishing to attend school any longer once he had received his Realschulabschluss.

He almost ended up not getting a chance to audition for the Sony Ericsson/Viva VJ casting due to standing at the end of a rather long queue and being told by the woman in charge of the casting that he had arrived too late. After then following her to the cafeteria and approaching her again, he managed to convince her to let him audition.
