The next live-action Street Fightermovie adaptation has faced a few hurdles as of late, but it seems the project is finally taking shape. Legendary is moving forward with the reboot, and they look to add some of the most prominent faces in the action genre to the main cast.

The road to developing Legendary’s new live-action Street Fighter movie has been a bumpy one; the project lost directors Danny & Michael Philippou last summer when the filmmakers shifted to focus on Bring Her Back. Today, Deadline reports that a new director has taken the reins.

“Twisted Metal” and Bad Trip director Kitao Sakurai is officially taking over directorial duties from the Philippou brothers.

Sony Pictures previously announced that the new movie based on the popular video game franchise was set for theatrical release on March 20, 2026. With the new director in place, this date will likely hold but it’s still early yet.

A new Street Fighter movie is in development, but the characters for the film have not yet been cast. In anticipation of the film, an AI-generated concept trailer imagines how some of the characters would appear with certain actors in the roles.

The trailer was shared to YouTube by Stryder HD. It includes some popular fantasy casting picks that have been imagined previously with fan art, including Alan Ritchson as Guile and Ryan Gosling as Ken. Other suggestions include acclaimed actor Mads Mikkelsen, known for his expertise in playing villainous characters, taking on the role of the dastardly M. Bison.
