Thomas Browne Henry in La famille Addams (1964)

Actualités

Thomas Browne Henry

A Man Alone
Ray Milland directs a fine western drama, strong on character and tension; it garnered enough praise to set him on a second, minor career behind the camera. Milland also stars as a gunman in the wrong place at the wrong time — framed for a mass murder in an unforgiving frontier town. Who ya gonna blame? That nasty sidewinder villain Raymond Burr, of course.

Star Sightings: Stephen Colbert Talks Louis C.K. With Samantha Bee, Gwen Stefani Performs in Dubai & More!
Though Louis C.K.'s transgressions were widely considered the worst kept secret in the comedy world, to some, it really was a secret.

Stephen Colbert welcomed Samantha Bee to the stage at Njpac in Newark, New Jersey, on Dec. 6, where she was the special guest on Sad! A Happy Evening with Stephen Colbert & Samantha Bee, a fundraiser for the Montclair Film Festival.

During their hour-and-a-half-long chat, the longtime friends talked everything from dealing with politics (specifically President Donald Trump's tumultuous first-year in office) during their late night monologues -- Colbert hosts The Late Show on CBS while Bee is the face of Full Frontal on TBS -- as well as the seismic shift in culture surrounding sexual harassment since the Harvey Weinstein allegations came to light.

Colbert was supposed to have C.K. on his show the week the New York Times published its report on his sexual misconduct, and the 53-year-old comedian was planning on using an...

The Scar
Director Steve Sekely’s hardboiled film noir leans heavily on the talents of star-producer Paul Henreid and camera ace John Alton — the three of them whip up the best gimmick-driven noir thriller of the late ‘forties. Strained coincidences and unlikely events mean nothing when this much talent is concentrated in one movie. It’s also a terrific show for star Joan Bennett, who expresses all the disappointment, despair and angst of a noir femme who knows she’s in for more misery.

Zurich Summit: industry braces for consolidation
Us producers and execs from HBO, HanWay and China’s Wanda Group discuss distribution challenges and impending consolidation.

The surplus of scripted drama, European film consolidation and business diversification were among was the key topics highlighted at the Zurich Summit (Sept 26-27).

Film and TV executives alike touched on the likelihood of consolidation coming their way, both in the Us scripted TV market and the European film distribution space.

Antony Root, Evp of original programming and production at HBO Europe, said: “There are 400 scripted shows on Us TV this year. There can’t possibly be the amount of writing, directing and acting talent in Hollywood to sustain that.

“As happened with the dot-com boom there will likely be a consolidation.”

Glut of content

Anonymous Content CEO Steve Golin said of the surfeit of content on Us TV: “There is a glut. There will be a shakeout in the middle. High-end shows will survive. Reality [TV] is...

2015 Sundance Film Festival Predictions: Andrew Renzi’s Franny
Moving from producer hat-wearing days (Afterschool, Two Gates of Sleep) to firmly stippling Park City with a metaphysical, deeply humane and serene portraits The Fort (2012) and Karaoke! (2013), Andrew Renzi saddled into feature filmmaking earlier this year with dual projects, the birth of Fishtail, the docu 16mm set in Montana and narrated by Harry Dean Stanton was the first to push out (’14 Tribeca/ Karlovy Vary), while his narrative feature debut appears to be close to going into labor. Production on the 2013 January Screenwriters Lab Franny began last October, with Richard Gere, Dakota Fanning and Theo James balancing on a tightrope act. On the tech side we find cinematographer Joe Anderson (Simon Killer), plus a Danny Bensi and Saunder Jurriaans signed score (Enemy).

Gist: Gere will play a fun-loving, hedonistic philanthropist who works his way into the lives of a newlywed couple (Dakota Fanning, Theo James) to recapture the life he once had.

News: Billy Miller, Davetta Sherwood, Tonya Lee Williams
Billy Miller admits it: He used to look down his nose at soap operas

"I think my mom watched them a little bit when I was a kid, but I was never super-familiar with any of them," the Arlington Lamar High School graduate says.

"Then I went to film school and my roommate would watch Passions every day. I just remember looking at him and asking, 'Really? You're a 220-pound dude watching Passions?'"

Little did Miller know that a future in daytime television awaited him. "Now that I'm looking back on it," the 30-year-old actor says, "I think I'm a little glad my roommate was watching that show."

Davetta Sherwood on lack of diversity at Y&R

“The experiences that I had with the lack of diversity, the lack of acknowledgment of the Winters family and just our ethnic background, was really disappointing,” she said. Sherwood said people on...

It was a fortunate thing he didn't,...

Documentary Talks About the Public School System's Problems
After grabbing awards in film festivals, Bob Bowdon's documentary The Cartel will premiere in the USA on April 16. It will talk about the problems that affect the American public school systems.

In order to talk about these things (with an apparent focus on the state of New Jersey), the documentary introduces us to politicians who propose solutions for the public system, teachers who are punished for speaking out, principals who get fired for taking some decisions, union leaders who have no shame or even self-serving bureaucrats blocking new charter schools. We also get the point of view of parents (some have children who can't read) and students. Besides, the documentary also talks about home-schooling as an alternative.

With that said, Bowdon also interviews education experts such as Clint Bolick (former president of Alliance for School Choice), Gerard Robinson (president of Black Alliance for Educational Options) and Chester Finn (president of the Thomas B.
