Their fashion knowledge will be put to the test as the actors join the cast of “The Devil Wears Prada 2.” And they won’t be the only new faces around Runway magazine. Other newcomers to the call sheet include Broadway stars Helen J. Shen (“Maybe Happy Ending”) and Conrad Ricamora, as well as comedian Caleb Hearon.

Meanwhile, two recognizable characters, Tracie Thoms, who played Lily, the handbag-loving best friend of Anne Hathaway’s character, and Tibor Feldman, who portrayed Irv Ravitz, the chairman of Runway’s parent company Elias-Clark, will reprise their roles in the sequel.

They will appear alongside the original film’s stars, Meryl Streep, Hathaway, Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci.

Disney’s 20th Century Studios is backing the sequel, which is currently in production and set to open theatrically on May 1, 2026. Though plot details haven’t been confirmed,...

Jason Statham's 'Crank' Sequel Is Better than the First One
Image
While the age-old adage "less is more" is sound filmmaking advice, the opposite applies to Jason Statham's relentless action movies. A case in point is Crank 2: High Voltage, a balls-to-the-wall action sequel that goes so far over the top that it dwarfs the absurdity of the original to leave a big, fat grin etched on the faces of hardcore Statham fanatics. Critics were also impressed, giving Crank 2 slightly better reviews than its predecessor.

Boasting a wild premise that forces Statham's Chev Chelios into a ticking-clock health scenario, Crank 2's high-voltage electricity derives from the extreme plot, flagrant fight scenes, hyper-violence, morbid humor, kinetic camerawork, Statham's breathless stunt work, and more. With the film recently celebrating its 15th anniversary, it's time to hook up the jumper cables and bring Crank 2: High Voltage back to life.

Angel Studios Sets Theatrical Release Date For ‘Brave The Dark’ Starring Jared Harris, Nicholas Hamilton
Image
Exclusive: Angel Studios will release Brave The Dark in theaters on January 24, 2025 on a minimum of 1,000 screens.

Based on a true story, the film by Damian Harris portrays the transformation of a 1980s small-town drama teacher Stan Deen — played by BAFTA winner and Golden Globe and Emmy nominee Jared Harris — drawn into the mysterious past of a student, Nathan (Nicholas Hamilton), who is arrested outside his classroom.

Long sustained by a quiet belief that no student is a lost cause, Deen attempts to bond with Nathan, secretive and living alone in his car. Their relationship will test his deepest convictions and become a life-changing journey.

Co-writer and subject of the film, Nathaniel Deen, said the work “isn’t just my story, it’s a tribute to my hero, Stan Deen. We are honored to link arms with Angel Studios, so Brave the Dark and Stan’s legacy can shine brightly on the world stage.

Harry Potter series update: Jared Harris nixes idea of putting his father’s wizard’s hat
Image
“Leave them alone.” That’s what Jared Harris, the “Mad Men,” “The Crown,” and Chernobyl star thinks about the original Harry Potter films.

The twice Emmy-nominated actor is, of course, the son of the late actor and singer Richard Harris (and brother to director Damian Harris and actor Jamie Harris). Richard played Hogwarts headmaster Albus Dumbledore in the first two Harry Potter films before he died. For the later films, Richard was replaced by Michael Gambon.

With HBO planning a reboot of the J.K. Rowling series for television, teasing a more detailed adaptation of the beloved books, The Independent asked Jared Harris if he had any interest in taking on the role initially played by his father.

Not only did he bat that away with a “no, thank you,” he said something that Warner Bros. Discovery shareholders maybe do not want to hear: “Also, I mean, why do it? I don’t understand.

That Breaking Bad Moment In Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. Was Completely Improvised
Image
"Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." was a changed show in its second season. In its early days, the Marvel Television series suffered from an identity crisis. Season 1 started out trying to emulate co-creator Joss Whedon's previous work, yet it played as a pale imitation of shows like "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and especially "Firefly," following a ragtag team of misfits on weekly adventures in their flying home base. However, the one-two combo punch of Whedon stepping away from the series and "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" blowing up the Marvel Cinematic Universe's status quo near the end of season 1 proved to be just the creative boost the show needed.

Upon returning for season 2, "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." had gained a newfound confidence. Its characters began to take on greater dimensions, it really embraced the idea of being a show about everyday people trying to keep the world safe, and it even started...

‘The Ghost of Richard Harris’ Review: Larger-Than-Life Actor Remembered Ruefully and Gratefully
Richard Harris
The word “legendary” gets tossed around pretty easily when discussing important actors, but there’s a huge difference between starring in a lot of important movies, and starring in a lot of movies while leaving everyone you ever met with an epic, semi-fantastical tale about how incredibly drunk you got.

Premiering at the Venice Film Festival, Adrian Sibley’s documentary “The Ghost of Richard Harris” tells the story of — you guessed it — Richard Harris, but also his ghost. The Irish actor, musician and poet who starred in films like “This Sporting Life,” “The Field,” “Gladiator” and two “Harry Potter” entries led an extraordinary existence that’s well worth recording for posterity. And in his wake, he left behind three sons who barely knew their real father, and who seek in his absence a little bit of understanding and maybe some closure.

“The Ghost of Richard Harris” follows actors Jared Harris...

Elizabeth Harris Aitken Dies Aged 85: Socialite Wife To Richard Harris And Rex Harrison, Later A Prison Chaplain’s Wife
Image
Elizabeth Harris Aitken, who was married four times, including to two film superstars and a pair of cousins, died aged 85 on Friday April 15.

The socialite, author and family matriarch was most recently the wife of Jonathan Aitken, formerly disgraced politician who served in John Major’s Conservative government cabinet, turned devoted Christian and prison chaplain.

When Elizabeth Aitken wrote her memoirs aged 40, she titled them Love, Honour and Dismay, and dedicated them to “Rh” – which could have been either her first husband, Richard Harris, or her second, Rex Harrison.

Born Elizabeth Rees-Williams in 1936 in Wales, Aitken was the child of a Labour MP. She attended London’s Royal Academy for Dramatic Art herself, where she was in the company of future stars Peter O’Toole, Alan Bates and Albert Finney, but she became best known as the partner of Irish actor Richard Harris. The couple married in 1957. They stayed together for 11 years and had three sons,...

How ‘Lovecraft Country’ Cars Help Tell the Story of Driving While Black
Image
In HBO’s “Lovecraft Country,” Atticus Freeman, played by Jonathan Majors, is in 1950s America, in the era of Jim Crow laws, driving on a quest to find his missing father.

Cars play a vital role in the series, as production designer Kalina Ivanov points out, “Black people used cars in the ’50s as a means to survive.” And as we see in the first episode, Atticus finds himself encountering a racist sheriff played by Jamie Harris, who reminds Atticus he’s driving through a sundown town (a town that banned Black people after dark). His car becomes of utmost importance — for him to survive.

Ivanov talks to Variety about the role cars play in the series and how she collaborated with picture car coordinator Sean Ryan to build their fleet.

What was one of the first things you discussed with showrunner Misha Green about the cars?

Something we discussed...

HBO's Lovecraft Country Spellbinds Viewers with Tales as Empowering as They Are Horrific
Image
Certain TV shows come out and comment on the times we live in. They are meant to be social statements on our world and society as a whole. A great example of this would be All In the Family. That show, with its social statements and satiric look at the culture of the 1970s, made a statement by virtue of the fact that it was so timely.

Other shows come out and then take a little longer to catch fire. People loved Breaking Bad but it wasn't until that show landed on Netflix that it's greatness, streamability, and the power of what television could be, really caught fire. Sure, HBO's The Sopranos gave us vicious TV the likes of which we'd never seen before, but Breaking Bad opened the floodgates to a wealth of TV that we didn't even know we wanted... but sorely needed.

Then there's a show like Lovecraft Country.

San Diego Mayor Denies Orlando Bloom Claim He Fled Comic-Con Exhibit Over Immigrant Theme
San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer’s office says there’s no truth to claims the Republican abruptly left an interactive Comic-Con exhibit hosted by Amazon Prime, after learning he would be portrayed as an “immigrant.”

The brouhaha started when Carnival Row star Orlando Bloom said during a Friday panel on the upcoming series that Faulconer visited the exhibit, but left because he didn’t like what he saw.

The installation allowed attendees to play a human or creature character. According to Bloom and some published reports, Faulconer chose a creature without realizing they’re all immigrants on the show. The mayor was reportedly issued an “identity card” saying he was a “mythological scrappy immigrant,” prompting him to leave.

Faulconer’s spokesperson refuted the claims, saying he left because the wait was too long.

“The Mayor never even went inside the activation for this show as there was a wait. He...
