More recently, he appeared in the first season of The White Lotus, earning critical acclaim for his role as a troubled father on vacation. ‘She Dances’ Review: Steve Zahn Takes His Daughter to Her Final Dance Contest in a Sweet, Cliched Parenting Drama
Image
Stop me if you’ve heard this one before: a father and his young adult daughter embark on a road trip that takes some comically uncomfortable twists and turns before they’re finally forced to say the unsaid things that created so much distance between them.

Rick Gomez’s directorial debut “She Dances” doesn’t win any points for originality, with a premise that could be found in one form or another on the festival circuit in pretty much every year since the dawn of independent film. And it’s a little too willing to indulge in cliches, particularly in a first act that’s dominated by tired plot points like “the teenage daughter doesn’t know how to change a flat tire and Dad insists on teaching her” and “the hotel mixed up our reservation, so we’re stuck at the worst motel in town.” But even if it...

‘She Dances’ Review: Steve Zahn’s Daughter Audrey Is a Standout in an Uneven Film on Familial Trauma
Image
Directed by actor Rick Gomez in his feature filmmaking debut and co-written with actor Steve Zahn, the sweet yet uneven dramedy “She Dances” is a proud family affair both on screen and off. When the title credits read “Introducing Audrey Zahn” at the start, the effect is undeniably disarming — this is papa Zahn, among the friendliest faces of many an ensemble piece, swiftly nipping any “nepo baby” talk in the bud by enthusiastically supporting his talented daughter, and starring alongside her too.

Young Zahn justifies that pride throughout “She Dances,” which traces the story of a father and daughter as they navigate domestic trauma during a road trip, and mend their broken bond in the process. The stilted writing and direction, sadly, leave a lot to be desired: Emotions are under-explored and the humor misfires, with a perfectly capable cast asked to deliver some truly clunky lines. But the two...

‘She Dances’ Review: Steve Zahn and Daughter Audrey Share a Sweet Pas de Deux
Image
There are probably quite a few proud fathers who would love to make a mainstream tribute to their own offspring. Few of them, however, have the resources — or talents — to handle it as well as Steve Zahn does with “She Dances.”

Zahn co-wrote, produced and stars with his dancer daughter Audrey in this lovely drama about, well, a proud father and his dancer daughter. But before we even see his perpetually fretting Jason, we meet her high school senior Claire. Claire and her mom Deb (Rosemarie DeWitt) are mildly panicked, because an emergency has come up and Deb can’t accompany Claire to her last-ever dance competition. It’s out of state and she needs a guardian, so … Jason it is. Claire wants nothing to do with her estranged father, and we can understand why when she and Deb call over to the depressing apartment where he lives. True to form,...

Tribeca X’s 2025 lineup: Bryan Cranston, Paris Hilton, and a year-round expansion
Image
Tribeca X was originally a one-day affair. When it launched in 2016 as part of New York City’s iconic Tribeca Festival, it was a single-day slate of programming for the creative advertising industry, capped by an awards show recognizing best-in-class, storytelling-driven marketing. Then, in 2024, it doubled in size, expanding to two days of live programming.

For 2025, it’s jumping into its biggest expansion yet. Its core event will still welcome attendees June 9-10 at Spring Studios in New York City, bringing together “top talent from Hollywood, advertising, and business for two days of high-impact conversations and networking at the intersection of creativity, commerce, and culture,” it says.

But on top of that core event, it now plans to offer year-round programming during activations at the Toronto International Film Festival, the Emmys, Art Basel Miami Beach, and more.

“Tribeca X is scaling to meet the moment. Our year-round expansion positions Tribeca...

For those at home, however, it means the countdown is on until the show picks up from where that shocking finale left off. A release date has yet to be set.

Steve Zahn and Rick Gomez Unveil Their Banner, Macaroni Art Productions
Image
In the ‘90s New York acting scene, Steve Zahn and Rick Gomez were two moons orbiting the same planet. They went out for the same roles and ran in the same crowds. Gomez landed a coveted spot in the World War II miniseries Band of Brothers, while Zahn bowed out due to scheduling issues that prevented him from reuniting with his That Thing You Do director Tom Hanks. Despite these close encounters, they don’t recall ever meeting.

Nearly 20 years later, Zahn and Gomez finally linked up on The Crossing, in which Zahn played a sheriff to Gomez’s deputy. The sci-fi show was short-lived, airing for just one season on ABC in 2018, but it spawned one of the closest relationships in both men’s lives. “We both worked the same way. We were both rewriting the scripts and trying to convince them to make it cooler than it was,...

'No One Is Safe': Silo Showrunner Confirms [Spoiler's] Season 2 Finale Fate
Image
The following contains spoilers for Silo Season 2, Episode 10, "Into the Fire."

The Silo Season 2 finale featured a confrontation between Rebecca Ferguson's Juliette Nichols and Tim Robbins' Bernard Holland. But only one of them will make it to the next season.

Speaking to The Wrap, showrunner Graham Yost confirmed that Bernard died in the explosion seen in the season finale. "I will say that in that final confrontation between them, every word is important," he said. "There are certain keywords that you'll see come back big in Season 3. I will also say to those who have read the books, Bernard dies at the end of the book, he's gone. So I would just say that. No one is safe in this show, as we showed in Season 1."

Quick Links Who Died in the Season 2 Finale of 'Silo'? Iain Glen Died Another Sacrificial Death in 'Game of Thrones' How His 'Silo' and 'Game of Thrones' Characters Compare

Through its two-season run so far, Silo has sadly seen several main character deaths. It started with Allison Becker (Rashida Jones), who sacrificed herself to prove what she thought was the truth. Then, it was George (Ferdinand Kingsley), whose death was the precursor to Juliette (Rebecca Ferguson) looking into things at the silo. Deaths continued to abound in Season 1, including Holston Becker (David Oyelowo), Ruth Jahns (Geraldine James), and Sam Marnes (Will Patton).

This didn’t slow down in Season 2 as the body count continued with Judge Mary Meadows (Tanya Moodie), Terry Cooper (Matt Gomez Hidaka), and the latest season finale death that left fans reeling.

‘Silo’ Star Steve Zahn Had Nightmares About Shaving Off His Beard (and Daydreams About Returning to Set)
Image
[This story contains spoilers from the season two penultimate episode of Silo.]

When Silo fans first saw Steve Zahn onscreen in season two’s premiere, it was only his eyes. Curious and child-like, the sliver of face through a vault window was all we needed to understand the character’s soft side.

But then came his first line: “You tried to open the door,” he tells Rebecca Ferguson’s Juliet. “You do that again and I’m going to kill you.”

After surviving her trip outside Silo 18 in the season one finale, Juliet stumbled on the abandoned Silo 17, where Zahn’s character, Solo, has survived on his own (mostly) for decades. Socially awkward and over-enthusiastic about mundane tricks and toys, Solo endears himself to Juliet, who is trying to figure out how to get back to Silo 18 and save her friends. But push him too far on where he comes from, and he’ll snap.

10 Sci-Fi TV Shows That Have An Excellent Mystery Element
Image
Sci-fi shows create unique circumstances where one or more scientific limitations in the present world have been broken. Some of the most bingeworthy sci-fi TV shows just dive into their worlds and provide exposition about the rules of their societies and the laws of nature in their universes. Not all shows go too deep with their lore, though, and some fun and lighthearted sci-fi shows are more invested in exploring the cool consequences of the sci-fi concept instead of focusing on how the sci-fi world works and how it came to be.

But, some sci-fi shows like to spend time on why their worlds came to be and focus on the mystery element of the science fiction. Some of the best British sci-fi shows of all time are all about the mysteries of the Universe. The characters try and figure out the various anomalies that made their world the way it is,...

Review: Silo draws lines in the sand in thrilling Episode 206, "Barricades"
Image
It's time for another episode of Silo on Apple TV+. Just every other episode of the second season so far, it's a banger. After Juliette Nichols (Rebecca Ferguson) was knocked out of action by an infection during last week's episode, she largely sits this one out. Instead, the focus is all on Silo 18, which is creeping ever closer to open rebellion as Mayor Bernard Holland (Tim Robbins) tries to reassert order...by starving the people on the lower floors into submission. It doesn't take.

Tax Credits Aren’t Enough: How States Are Wooing Film Productions
Image
London is the new Atlanta, which was already the new L.A.

Los Angeles is seeing a big dip in production, but the problem is actually nationwide. Film production across the U.S. is down 26 percent compared to 2021, according to data from ProdPro. Though the overall market has cut back, the U.S. continues to be hit the hardest while our closest allies, Canada and the UK, have increased their spending and incentives.

Producers need tax credits, and a lot of the states in the states don’t have enough to go around. California’s annual incentive is $330 million, though Gov. Gavin Newsom wants to raise that to $750 million. New Jersey, New Mexico, and Nevada have ramped up their incentives. But even the most-welcoming places like Georgia, which has no cap on tax credits, is feeling the pinch to productions moving to London.

For indies, a tax credit is just a start.

Review: Silo ratchets up the tension with riots and revelations in Episode 205, "Descent"
Image
Another episode of Silo is out today on Apple TV+, and it should come as no surprise that it's another good hour of television. At this point in Silo's second season, it's almost starting to feel redundant to sing its praises; this has been a rock solid season for Apple's sci-fi show, and it's showing no signs of slowing down.

"Descent" escalates the already high stakes across the board. There's a feeling now that we're speeding toward a bloody conclusion in the back half of the season, sparked by a manhunt for Knox (Shane McRae) and Shirley (Remmie Milner), two of the leaders from Mechanical who were framed for the murder of Judge Meadows (Tanya Moodie) in last week's episode, "The Harmonium." It would be very convenient for Mayor Bernard Holland (Tim Robbins) if Knox and Shirley were strung up by an angry mob he whipped up to...

'The Tragedy of the Character': Silo Stars Break Down Season 2's Shocking Death
Image
Silo stars Tim Robbins and Common have discussed a major death on the show, explaining the impact it will have on their respective characters. In Season 2, Episode 4, "The Harmonium," Robbin's Bernard kills Tanya Moodie's Mayor Meadows after she decides to "go out to clean," following in Sherriff Juliette Nichols (Rebecca Ferguson)'s footsteps.

Bernard feels forced to act to maintain control of the silo, which is on the brink of chaos. In an interview with Collider, Robbins discussed his character's motivation and the attendant implications of his actions. "I think he's doing it because he's trying to save the silo. No question. This is the tragedy of the character. He has to do things that he doesn't want to do. It's a pretty effed-up place [to be in]," he explained.

Silo’s second season is well underway, and the stakes are high. After Juliette (Rebecca Ferguson) was forced to go outside, the residents of her silo were in awe that she didn’t die. There are other silos out there. What this means for the future of the show is exciting, and fans who have read the books on which the series is based, Wool, Shift, and Dust by Hugh Howey, have an...

Steve Zahn Teases Emotional Off-Script Scenes in Silo Season 2
Image
In Apple TV+'s Silo, where most of the world's population has perished and the rest remain in an underground silo, most newcomers aren't exactly strangers. The exception is Steve Zahn's Solo, a reclusive man living in Silo 17 who Juliette meets on her journey outside Silo 18 in Season 2. Silo hasn't yet revealed much about Solo, keeping his storyline and importance to Juliette's journey a secret. But his one and only line in the official trailer is enough to show he's not a man to be crossed: "You try to open the door again, and I'm gonna kill you."

According to Zahn, Solo is very similar to another character of his that represented vulnerability: Bad Ape from War of the Planet of the Apes. That alone speaks volumes about the type of character Solo is, but Zahn also adds originality to Solo's character that people have never seen before. Talking to Cbr,...

In Silo Season 2, it’s all about rebellion. After Juliette (Rebecca Ferguson) went outside at the end of Season 1, the residents of the silo were in shock. She refused to clean, the ritualistic act of cleaning the camera lens before walking a few steps only to perish. Instead, she held the cloth up and dropped it to the ground. She continued on, taking step after step. When she went over the hill and was out of view, residents were in disbelief. Did she survive? If so, does this mean they could survive? Has everything they have been told and seen of the post-apocalyptic world all been a lie?

'Silo's Syndrome Illness Is Nowhere to Be Found in the Books

Quick Links What Is 'Silo' About? What Is The Syndrome in 'Silo?' How The Syndrome Sets up 'Silo' Season 2

With AppleTV+'s original sci-fi series Silo Season 2 premiering on November 15, 2024, all eyes turned to Juliette Nichols' (Rebecca Ferguson) mysterious fate. When Season 1 dangled viewers on a cliffhanger, Juliette's momentary hopes were dashed with the crushing realization that several Silos have been constructed below multiple planetary craters, meaning more human survivors have been held underground.

Although Silo adapts story beats from the Hugh Howey novel trilogy, a strange illness known as The Syndrome has been created specifically for the TV adaptation. To prepare fans for the rest of Season 2 and how the illness will tie into the story events, it's only right to examine The Syndrome's biological origin, dramatic impact, and how the cryptic illness will inform the events of Season 2.

How Heat Tape Keeps Juliette Alive in 'Silo' and What It Means for Season 2
Image
Silo had a strong start on Apple TV+, and out of the gate, the second season is just as enthralling. The sci-fi dystopian drama is based on the Hugh Howey set of novels, Wool, Shift, and Dust. The story follows a group of survivors who live in a community underground. The 144-level silo has a hierarchy just like the current world with the top brass on the upper levels and the menial workers down below. Everyone is warned that the outside is a vast wasteland and asking to go outside results in almost immediate death. A camera pointed outdoors proves just that, leaving residents fearful and obedient.

When an engineer from the lower level named Juliette (Rebecca Ferguson) starts questioning and investigating to uncover the truth, however, the result is devastating when shes forced to go outside herself. But against all odds, she survives thanks to a very specific modification to her suit.
