30 years later, and those shoddy B-movie sci-fis of the 90s are back on trend, and the latest throwback is The Protos Experiment. From tag team filmmakers, Brian and Laurence Avenet-Bradley, comes their latest collaboration, a delve into sci-fi, a transition away from their horror back catalogue.

Opening immediately with physical menace and brute mystery, a group of strangers find themselves individually chained up, in a darkened warehouse-esque environment, with one of the characters – John (Fred Thomas Jr.) chained to a full-on unit of a man, a human beast even, whose focus and aggressions are dictated by a dystopian head mechanism.

Exclusive: Devilworks, the genre sales specialist, has launched a full-service distribution label. Named New Era Entertainment, the banner will focus on North American releases, primarily for home entertainment.

Devilworks, the genre sales banner based in Malta, has launched a full-service distribution label named New Era Entertainment to help fulfill the demands of the market and broaden its release schedule.

“As we maintain relationships with independent filmmakers, producers, agencies and festivals, we wanted to develop a new label, that allows us to expand our acquisitions to a wider audience, across all genres,” Devilworks said in a statement. “We are looking for innovative storytelling and are eager to collaborate with new and current filmmakers, to release content that empowers and enthuses audiences.”

Devilworks’ new distribution arm has committed to releasing a number of titles that span across different genres every year. New Era Entertainment’s first film, “F.E.A.R.,” will receive a full home entertainment release across the U.S. and Canada on June 15.

Last fall, the European genre label launched its own U.S. distribution arm that aims to release at least 12 titles per year.

Signature Ent. has released an official UK trailer for an indie zombie apocalypse survival thriller titled Forget Everything and Run, also listed under the title F.E.A.R., which is an obvious anagram. This is set to open on VOD in April in the UK, but there's still no US release set or any other plans yet. When a terrifying pathogen is released, one family will fight to save their children against a band of marauders, hellbent on revenge. They escape and cling to hope, barely surviving in the mountains. The synopsis doesn't specifically mention zombies, but it's pretty clearly another zombie thriller. Genre firm Devilworks has acquired US distribution rights to Geoff Resiner’s action thriller Fear.

Devilworks, which distributes titles in the US alongside its UK-based sales operation, picked up the title from Breakthrough Entertainment and is planning an early summer release.

Set in the desolate Pacific Northwest of North America, Fear is an action survival thriller about a young family facing a group of bandits who steal the last of their supplies.

Jason Tobias and Anna Bradley produced the film for US company Action Figure Entertainment, with executive producers Blair Pennington and Lucas Solomon.

Although Way Down In Chinatown officially wrapped its whirlwind shoot last weekend, production team Eric Michael Kochmer, Jonathan Haloosim (22Mm Productions) and the MOnsterworks66 duo, Angel Corbin and Maria Olsen, are taking time out to official welcome the multi-talented Ashli Haynes to the cast.

Haynes plays the alluring yet tainted Annie Loraine, who may well turn out to be far more than either Victor or Jessica Mitchum – played respectively by Justin Dray and Stephanie Sanditz – can handle. She will also share screen time with Lisa Loring and Nancy Wolfe, of The Addams Family and Helter Skelter fame respectively, as well as, among others, Kochmer, Corbin and Olsen.

Haynes is a stranger to neither stage nor screen and has known from the young age of 3 that she was destined to be a performer. At 10, she found herself in ‘The Object of My Affection’, starring Jennifer Aniston and Paul Rudd.

Angel Corbin is having a busy – and highly productive – week. Not only will her first feature film, DisOrientation, have its world premiere screening at Grauman’s Chinese Theater on Hollywood Boulevard as part of the prestigious Dances With Films Film Festival this Saturday, she will, on Sunday, be accepting pitches from aspiring screenwriters at The Great American PitchFest on behalf of MOnsterworks66, the fledgling production company of which she is co-owner.

As if a Hollywood premiere and an appearance at PitchFest wasn’t enough, this incredibly busy actress/producer has also just landed a pivotal supporting role in Eric Michael Kochmer’s Lynchian noir feature Way Down in Chinatown. As the cherry on the top, she has also been named Producer on the project, along with Jonathan Haloossim of 22Mm Productions and Maria Olsen, Corbin’s partner-in-crime at MOnsterworks66.

Body of Work is a Panic Attack Film that looks at artistry, blood-letting and the desires of the very twisted Jack Vogler.
