Anecdotes

During the Korean War, Daily was drafted into the army, sent to Korea and served in an artillery unit. He met actor/musician Dick Contino there and the two would travel to various units giving shows. Contino would sing and play the accordion and Daily, who was an accomplished musician, would play the stand-up bass.

He knew Bob Newhart in Chicago before they were first well-known and 15 years before he joined the cast of The Bob Newhart Show (1972).

His nephew, Dick Daily, is a popular Hollywood reporter for several radio stations in Australia.

He had been writing for comedian Steve Allen when he and his wife adopted a child. His first role on television was on the series Ma sorcière bien aimée (1964) where he picked a boy staying with the Stephenses whom they were adopting.

Daily guest starred on ALF as Lawrence "Larry" Dykstra, a psychiatrist. ALF said he learned about psychiatry from watching The Bob Newhart Show. Jack Riley, who played Elliot Carlin on Bob Newhart, appeared as Larry's patient on ALF.

Daily and his third wife Becca named their dog Hi Bob, after the line his character said repeatedly on The Bob Newhart show.

Is the only Jeannie de mes rêves (1965) regular cast member to have appeared (in a guest spot) on it's so-called rival show, Ma sorcière bien aimée (1964).

Daughter named Becca with Vivian Sanchez.

Daily was cremated. His ashes were sprinkled outside downtown Santa Fe.

Daily's second wife, Vivian Sanchez, an actress was his touring partner in a play called Lover's Leap.
